I have been teaching piano for over 20 years, and have played a lot of New Orleans piano, and have even played in New Orleans, and I can say this is one of, if not THE, best instructional video I have ever watched on this style of piano! Well done.

I discovered Jonny about a year ago and subscribed very shortly after. He's the real thing: skilled in many styles and in how to demonstrate and teach them. I've been playing for 60 years and am excited at the new insights he and his guest instructors bring. I'm happy to keep improving, and with Jonny, that's what I find myself doing.

dude you are the best piano teacher in the known universe. i've played guitar for 40 years, bluegrass band for 15, studied classical and jazz, well, every style pretty much. started playing piano almost a year ago, and it's coming along nicely. your approach, sense of humor, knowledge, and ability to really simplify things is a collective gift to any aspiring keyboardists or pianists out there. i have pianos and keyboards and organs and synthesizers in every room in two houses now. the wife literally dares me to drag another one home. i have gotten more out of your youtube channel than anything else. you are incredible player, too. god bless you. there's nothing more noble than bringing the joy of music to the world, especially with such user friendliness and exuberance. piano is the most amazing instrument out there, i only wish i would have given it a try earlier in life, but thanks for the good work. its not so scary after all.

This is the lesson I’ve been yearning for since I first started playing! Dr. John is the very inspiration behind my desire to learn piano in the first place. Never thought I could ever get close to playing like him but this lesson gives me a glimmer of hope. Thanks Johnny! Or should I say “ Dr. Johnny”? 😎🙌🏻

This is your first video I have seen thus far and I'm a new subscriber now and think it's safe to say you are definitely gifted in knowing how to teach piano without the lesson becoming dreary or lulling, so thanks so much. Gonna be seeing if you have any on Professor Longhair as well, since I know Dr. John based a lot of his technique off of him and I love Dr. John so much. Love the style and trying to improv etc. with it so much, and you just helped me learn how to grow those attempts. 🙏😎👍

I don't really play piano, but this is VERY good, spending some time today starting the left hand. Maybe Jonny covered it, but my problem the 7th measure octave turnaround when I forgot we're still swinging this. E octave (bar 7) begins on the 'and' of 1 and accentuates (swings) the down beats thru the measure ending with the 8th bar the same swing pattern as bars 1-6. I must be getting old taking a while to see this ;-)

Why do you write dotted quarternotes in the left hand, while you play staccato-quarternotes? You should better write staccato on beat one in every measure. BTW: Staccato dotted quarternotes are uncommon.
