  • The plural endings in Hungarian are the following: -k/-ok/(-ak)/-ek/-ök. But there are some irregular words. I’m going to teach you some of the most important ones. 🙂

We can avoid a lot of well-intended errors with this, thanks! I am learning the goal in hangrend, suffixing, stb, is always an easier pronunciation. The "irregular" is no exception and there always seems to be a logic there I just need to understand. Otherwise we memorize these for what they are and accept it. That's easy, with Hungarian I am already having to learn a new word for everything anyway, lol.

I'm something of a novice with Hungarian, but this is a good list that highlights some patterns :) Shortening a long vowel, removing it, or adding a V seem to be common ways to make it flow better.
Many of these I've seen before but with the accusative ending (-t) e.g. víz -> vizet and cukor -> cukrot instead of the plural ending (víz -> vizek and cukor -> cukrok, as included in the video) but it's largely the same change.
    Köszönöm!

Yes, you are right, there are definitely some patters. And luckily the irregularities are usually the same for the plural, possessive and accusative. 🙂
      Nagyon szívesen! 🙂

    Szavak , nem szók!

As I said in the video: "szók" is for grammatical terms only. For example: névszók, határozószók etc. I think it's interesting. 🙂

Thanks, so useful. Just learning these examples can save a ton of well-intended mistakes! The goal I've noticed with vowel harmony, suffixing, stb, is always to make pronounciation easier and the "irregular" plurals are no exception. So we just memorize these for what they are and accept it. That's easy, with Hungarian I've already had to begin learning a new word for everything anyway, lol.

Yes, I totally agree with everything you say. We tend to do thing just to make pronunciation easier. You can memorize these exceptions or you'll just get used to them if you hear them often. Luckily, there are not too many exceptions. I mean, as you said too, it's already hard work to learn this language because you have to learn SO MANY words that don't look like anything else you've seen before... 😂😁
