Hi, Melissa! Could we also consider that the effect of emigrants absence on their origin country work force, social engagement and community or family roles ["brain drain"] is another possibility that could lead emigration to affect poverty negatively? Is there any studies on this correlation?
Great point! I touch on some of these outcomes in my video about the effects of migration in origin countries. The absence of a migrant can have some adverse household effects, especially for children and seniors who may suffer from a lack of care and/or supervision. At the community and national levels, we see some mixed results. I discuss the nuance that is often missing from these conversations in my video about my reluctance to use the term "brain drain".
Exactly
