    Oh my..been there! But with calves.
    For our pigs..we used to use a "pig walker" to move them short distances. It's basically a rectangle made of wood slats or panels. No top or bottom. with handles on the front and back. We'd set it over the pig and one person would get the front handles one person on the back handles. We'd lift the walker off the ground just enough to walk and we'd walk the pig where ever we needed to take him. Hope that makes sense. Made life easier. Ha!

      Yeah, like a chicken run but for moving pigs. They are rascals. You give them a chance and they don't think twice... off they go! LOL.

    • @Allikattoo
      @Allikattoo 6 лет назад +3

      That's a great idea, my uncle had a hog farm and he did something very similar to that when moving them from the nursery to the next level. He didn't attach the panels together but after you said that I thought that would have worked so much better we always had a rouge that would bust loose. LOL

    If you ever have to move them again park a trailer in the entry way to the pen and put their food bowls in the trailer and feed them out of it for a few days . Then when your ready to move them just feed them and they will go into the trailer. Shut em in and move em where you need them 😊

    That was great! It was a good reminder that things dont always go as planned. We had our cow go on a walkabout one day. She pushed thru the fence to eat my pumpkins then proceeded to walk down the road. We found here down at the neighbors near their steers. We then walked her down the road back. I followed behind. We had cars pass and a dog charge at her. It was the most hilarious thing after it was over. :)

    Murphy's Law. Nothing goes just like it is planned. I know it was serious for a while but now that they are moved, it was a live and learn situation. That line in the title is perfect, what were we thinking? my husband built a pig mobile ,metal bed frames, field fince , metal antique wagon wheels. stainless steel feeder with feed storage on the side. 8ft by 10ft. we started the pigs in it for the first month or two when the weather was cold in march. rolling it when it needed it. trained them to a small area out side with electric fince with old metal roofing just the other side. than they were free in a large area like you have. we used lots of hose and pig lickits for water. we have 5 acres and we cleared our whole property and raised 70 pigs over the years. never putting them on the same patch of land twice . so we never had parasite problems. Happy pigs.... one time they walked down several properties to the neighbors place . no garden along the way and no roads. they trotted home ok .. but over the years we did our share of pig chasing so I got a kick out of your vidieo. we ran several 100 ft hoses connected together to get water to them. even if you just got the water closer so you didn't have to haul it . as they get bigger the water thing gets more critical. to much work hauling it like that. we made a wallow for them but fresh water to drink is so important. In 4 H my kids (and us adults) learned over and over how important a good source of water is.

    We made a small cart trailer that we would park in their pen. We moved their feeder onto it. After a week or so, they got used to going up there to feed. When it was time to move them, we closed it up with the ramp (which was the gate) and moved them with the ATV. The cart trailer was nothing road legal but it worked. We used it to move ewes with lambs and injured animals too.

Pigs are very intelligent and train quickly. I don't know if you will read this after so long but good luck on your next move. Pig are good for cleaning woodland.
