I found about this Mozart Sonata from Ivan Turgenev Novel "Father's and Sons" in the scene where Katya played this for Arcady on his visit to her estate where she lived with her sister Sergeevna (who was courting Dr Bazarov) This was nearly 45 mins ago and inspired me to listen to it on You Tube. I liked the song and performed superbly. 🎉 It's amazing how a Russian novel brought me to an Austrian musical piece. And for readers :I am a Pakistani reporting from home town :Lahore. Greetings from my study chamber
One of the great secrets about this piece is that is is listed as being in C minor but there are no C minor chords until the very end. This is what we call tonic delay in the extreme. How great was Mozart?...don't ask.
Thanks for revealing this secret I ll share a personal thing :When I listen to mozart Alla Turk it sends shivers down my spine!!!! Though I am more inclined in fav of Beethoven but in this musical piece Mozart's musical genius is unparralled. 🎉
Incredible. I could listen constantly, MINUS the commercial that blasts out just before one of the most beautiful parts of the Fantasia. Commercials......
Merc encore , Siri...!
I think you make a good point...while I was thinking how special Mr. Schiff plays in his special manner, the tone of the B adds a different dimension to it, likely via his own preferences, although I think opinions would differ amongst listeners.
This is one of those pieces that almost doesn't sound like Mozart to me much of the time. You hear the Mozart sound in the sublime melodic parts but much of the piece is moody, mercurial, slow, and dissonant in a romantic style ahead of it's time. Is it any wonder that every composer who came after Mozart said he was the greatest?
Yes it's lovely, a very refined performance. Having said that, I do prefer the live version by Schiff's contemporary, Zoltan Kocsis, which is so different - 'gutsy' and dramatic, I would say. I'll listen to one or the other, depending on my mood!
You can also find this harmonic motif on Beethoven's "Pathetique" sonata (1st movement) but much more embellished. So basically, "Succesion" is based on Beethoven's "Pathetique" sonata.
Una de las obras complejas de Mozart. Hermosos contrastes de modo inocente y dramático. Debe haber sido de su última época. Me encanta la ejecución de András Schiff. Gracias!!
The beauty about this particular event is the little mistakes in french suites and stuff. It’s more of playing than a “performance”. The word “perform” has a negative connotation. Schiff gives us the most delightful musical moments here, gives us view into his alone playing. It’s a jampack of musical philosophy, sentiment, divinity, and transcendence. It’s what music is. Defined by schiff. That hall defines music just as well, wouldnt be surprised if it was his pick to the cubic inch
yes I was thinking exactly that... where is it? I thought it was Wigmore Hall until I saw the windows. (Have to confess I've never actually been to the Wigmore Hall)
I love this sonata and hear it in my inner ear quite differently than Mr. Schiff. While I have a huge respect towards him and his interpretation, I couldn't help but hear Bach-like sound written all over it.
What a SHAME is the combination of such a composer, pianist, interpretation, setting, piano, flowers, image and the satanic slavery of the plandemic rags, over the audience faces (starting 4:40)... That will remain a stain on history forever.
Mozart wouldnt like Schiffs performance. He is great for Bach. But for Mozart u have to express emotions as if u were in an opera. The important Fp in the 32th notes of the adagio (many editions wrong), he didnt play.Very poor interpretation.
I thank the audience for pausing two seconds before applauding to allow the final notes to sound out.
Apparently, they were not quite sure whether this is the end of the piece or not.
Sheer effect of transcendence

Great music does that.
I also got here from Turgueniev
Haha, just came here seeing reference to this Sonata in Turgenev !!!!

There are no c minor chords ?
@@classicgameplay10 I know it is hard to believe but Mozart saved the tonic chord for the very end.

@@stephenjablonsky1941 you are deeply penetrated into classical music Amazing.. Impressed
I’m sorry!
Miraculous. And the line of succession to Beethoven and Chopin is so clear. If only Mozart had lived longer.
The only two pianists I think can described as Mozart's heirs are Alkan and Scriabin, and certainly not the nasty Beethoven
@@pe-peron8441 Alkan is on the level of Mozart?
Beethoven, Nasty?? Bro, you're just biased. You can just say you don't like Beethoven because of personal preference. @@pe-peron8441
@@pe-peron8441could you please explain/elaborate? I've never heard this opinion before.
This lovely theme that emerges at 2:40 is among my top 10 of all of Mozart’s themes and this is saying A LOT!
Head-over-heels in love with Schiff’s musical sensibilities. Best performance of K.475 I’ve ever heard.

This was wonderful ♥️
Excellent♥️
The masks🤣
Masterful.
Wonderful ! I go and play this piece, learning from this performance ! Schiff plays it in an intimate way, cause this piece seems very interrogative.

definitely inspiration for succession at 10:38!!!!

Quite divine
great audio
one of the best performances of K.475 I've ever heard. I did hear one small mistake but who cares? brilliant.

Just close your eyes and drift away.
Bellissima immagine. Bravo, è proprio vero!
Just waiting for Mozart to make and release a new album
this is beautiful
Hatfield House, in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England (the painting in the background is called the rainbow portrait and depicts QE I)
what room and venue is this?....it is stunning!

This Peace sounds sometimes like Schubert or Beethoven very romantic so
that can be wrote in the Nineteen Century..
BRAVO
Fantastic!
Have the other part of the recital?
With Bach and Beethoven, I think?
Beautiful playing but personally I prefer the orchestral version of this work:

Para que. En español ?
Why in Henle edition this sonata is different ?!!??
6:03 isn‘t that meant to be played in one hand ?
No.
Is this Andras Stiff?
how to properly call the scale in the last bar? it‘s c minor with a instead of a flat.
This would be a melodic minor scale, as both A and B are natural instead of flatted.
10:39
+1, only a great master can play that like that.
plus, sounds like Schubert, for exemple symphony n°8 or the spirit of his last sonatas
Where was this performance recorded?
Mozart in prophetic mood (Beethoven etc)
This is the most mysterious piece composed by Mozart.
8:24 personal timestamp
It seems that Beethoven was inspired by this work for his "Apassionata"
Who came from Turgenyev

can you please name the hall? it is in the UK, but which hall?
Came here to see the real deal after watching RUNNING ON EMPTY with RIVER PHOENIX.

Rather Mozartian manner. You hear baroque, do not you?
Listen Maria Yudina version !!!

Fp?
Schiffs
Also What is Fp
I like the version of Mitsoko Uchida much better.
