It's a good story, an enjoyable little horror fling... but it lacks any coherent gameplay. If you like these types of games then go for it, otherwise wait for the sale or try it out on Gamepass. Love Reggie xxx
EDIT: I recorded hours of gameplay but alas, no sound came through for some reason. So instead you get treated to a little backing music on this occasion. Apologies for that.

Short, sweet, and to the point! Well done. The line about Nan having a sherry was gold! Love your accent and colloquialisms.
Yellow paint is indeed a problem in games lately isn't it! There's always a "magic path" to the goal, like the girder at the beginning or the perfectly positioned dangling helicopter. I hate it, but don't know how else they'd do it. Like you, I was hoping for something genuinely scary. I'm tired of monsters and would have settled for simply villains/terrorists/bad guys with you as the lone survivor. Even a zombie outbreak would have made sense in the claustrophobic confines of a deep sea platform.

Absolutely love reading comments like this. For us smaller channels it makes it all the more worthwhile so appreciate you writing it up!
And yes… yellow paint is a real big bear for me. I think it was the Farcry games that do it non stop.
      Thanks again mate, cheers 🍻

To be fair, high visibility paint on important things like ladders etc would make more sense on an oil rig than say...some random cliffs in Nepal but yeah the signposting is QUITE heavy. First game I remember using colors for this stuff was Mirror's Edge from 2008, or at least the first one where it was so obvious it almost broke my immersion

Very true! I think the game that really killed it for me with yellow paint was the Farcry series. They may have changed it to white paint once to liven it up, but everything was so obvious it hurt.

This game maybe isn't one, but Reggie is a winner every time. Another great video.

Almost completeled it. I believe you can turn the yellow paint off in settings. Me and my 10 year old played it. Hebjimped about 6 times off the sofa. I am enjoying the game. Great cast of scottish characters.

i think everything you say in this is perfect, but for me i think the score of 7/10 for me since i love games for the story and this one is really great for the ambience.
im gonna put it on a list so is easier to understand.
    the ups :
    - some of the best voice acting i have ever heard
    - beutifull game
    - monster designs were great especially the fact the designs represents the characters personallities
    the downs :
    - gameplay was as stale as the cookies in my grandmas cupboard.
    - when i first saw it i was really hoping the monsters would be like the game "monstrum" (very old game but its fairly good)
    - the game was great for the scenery just wish i could turn off the filter it just makes everything look so YELLOW.
(apparently they will put out an update to get rid of the yellow soonTM)

Some great points here mate, and definitely see where you’re coming from. 7/10 is a more than fair rebuttal of this review so I appreciate you sharing this for others to see. Cheers to you

Seems to me just one of those games I watch a streamer play like a movie watch.
I really like and want more oil rig settings (especially after watching the series the Rig) but I like a I think either a Alien Isolation game type or maybe some complex job/career Rig game with great graphics but where you build, run, fix and have an economy and achievements of multiple rigs or something (my mind goes great potential- just never able to inact any thoughts).
Most want depth, achievements, replay ability but it does look good shame about the yellow hand holding - I might watch TheRadBrad play or something -
Reggie banging thumbs on a work oil rig with Johnny two shoes making deliveries 📦.
    Love the review ❤

This spoon feeding technique in gaming has been around far too long now. Back in the day it felt like intelligent nerds made the game and had the final say in execution. now intelligent nerds are lead by moron corporate planks that have never played a real game. Back in the day, you felt like you learned something after playing a good game.
I'm still going to buy this day one as I work on a rig and have been dying to play a game in that setting, so kudos there. But ya the yellow waffle should be optional. They can even name for the setting as "for planks" or "for pioneers".

Watched it on one of those no commentary channels, the horrifying bit for someone like me living in a country where regulations can be taken for granted with no true justice after a disaster (my eldest brother drowned back in 08) wasn't the organism...it was the poor conditions that made it easier for the hard working folk on rig to fall victim to this thing. Someone says something feels off and that jackass of a manager couldn't accept that. As a game in the conventional sense I guess I can understand why others feel underwhelmed however.
ALSO, the accent and performances, I had no idea it was spot on, but it sure as hell felt like it and you confirmed it bud lol.

I got tired of going up and down ladders especially at the end .

    • @cockneygamer
      @cockneygamer  5 месяцев назад +1

Very much so… I forgot to add that on ladders the controls felt a bit clunky too in how you have to hold a mouse button down for grip.
      Thanks for commenting mate!

It's too bad. As you say, the setting is nice and I think that the repetitiveness might not bother me that much, but I'm not a fan of horror games that don't have combat.

It's probably the colour but your logo reminds me of Happy Eater more than Pacman

Haha… fun fact, when I started the channel I paid someone like $20 to make a logo and this is what appeared. Now you mention it I can’t unsee it! 😂

First critical review I've seen. I agree with your points, not a scary game - such a shame. The story isn't interesting either. Why should I care about the family at all? Just a bunch of nagging. Compared to "The Bunker", this game is as scary as "Animal Crossing". It's competently made but I wish it hade higher stakes and more depth.

Thank you for the comment mate and checking out the review. And yes I agree with you here.
I didn’t dislike the game… it just wasn’t as amazing as everyone was raving about. I very much felt a passenger in it.
      Thanks again!
