While it was on Windows XP, I fully installed and booted Windows Vista in a VM on a 400MHz Pentium II with 512MB RAM. The VM had 320MB RAM allocated and I had to do some trickery to get the setup to boot, and then it took 15 minutes to boot from nothing once it was installed lmfao

Your best video idea was a big ol' mistake. Somehow, that is just fitting. Also, thanks for the mic close-up on the Quantum thrashing. It's a sound I remember well from my Mac Performa days. Mine had a whopping 1 gig drive that used to be just as loud, and performance always seemed inversely pathetic to that level of noise.
i remember having a quantum bigfoot. it was on a gateway 2000 pentium 2 desktop. ran windows 98se on it of course this was my 1st computer and got it with my fist job i liked it however was slow. this was in 2006 -07
Once on a Windows XP laptop I installed Windows Vista through Virtual PC 2007 SP1 and I got it to run, but like crap. I think the laptop had around 512mb of ram.
OK. I have begun to test this myself. Windows ME on old optiplex GX1. KernelEx Installed. There is no way to get virtualbox to run on windows ME because the version of NTDLL.DLL is too old (4.90). It needs at least Windows 2000 version so 5.0. Speculation: Seeing that bochs can run on ME it would be worth a shot to install win2000 under bochs and then virtuabox inside bochs and then vista inside virtualbox.
My favorite operating system. Windows Me. I'd love to have multiple Windows Me lan based game's. Hero's complete, command and conquer, red alert 2, starcraft Diablo II. So many fun hour's of ad hoc infrastructure...
Needed the windows installer 2.0 redist installer - did you ever find that? VirtualBox was the way. I also owned VMWare Workstation 5.5 and I'm sure that worked on Win9x!
hmm I wonder if Virtual PC would work on ME...did you change the virtualbox's setup options tho? I might install ME on vmware and see if any virtualbox would work on it & try help you
I've heard "You can't install windows vista on old hardware" sounds like a challenge, but i don't have enough memory. If I had i'd try that. But if druaga1 can't no one can't.
It's not much different to 7... It just looks a bit nicer and has less driver support for new hardware and newer apps have stopped supporting it aswell.
Well I probably mean the SP1 or RTM versions of Vista since those are the unstable versions of Vista. :P Not that I have a problem with Vista anyway, I used it for most of 2013 with no problems.
I was thinking about making a video with the following idea: - I have 64GB of ram - I make the biggest ramdisk my Windows 10 allows me, let's say 60GB - With some virtual machine I install Windows 8 - Within Windows 8 I create a new Ramdisk - Within that Winodws 8 I install again a virtual disk - On this Virtual Disk I install Windows 7... and so on. But it's a lot of work and I am not so dedicated, maybe an idea for you Druaga1? If you have a system with 64GB of ram?
The ACPI Error could be because of BOCHS because it does not support ACPI. You should try to install WinME on a computer from the Windows 95 SSD video, because it supports ACPI
If I were you, I'd upgrade windows installer (you can download it from m$ website) and try installing VirtualBox again. You might get luckier next time! :3
Why is the drive called CARTMAN? Is this a separate arc from the manga? Did it split into another series? SOMEONE TELL ME!!! Is it the name of his absent father? And because he missed him so much he named his drive that so his father would somehow be remembered, by always being a part of his old useless computer.
As a side note, you should definitely still look into some of those other options in the poll later on. Videos on the beta Windows versions or stuff like OS/2 are interesting as heck.
If you get windows xp running you might be able to get windows xp to run virtual box and run windows Vista with virtual memory. It's a long shot, and it might take forever to load and be totally useless, but it could work
I miss Quantum. Another hard drive maker gobbled up by the big 3. :( Edit: Holy shit. You have a Abit mobo. I miss them too. I used to have a KA7-100. I looked it up on YT one day but all I could find was a fuzzy video. That mobo had so many hot features of the time. Sadly it died to bad caps or I would still have it as a spare.
If you do get windows xp running properly you would have a better platform to run software to emulate windows vista. So maybe it is possible it just requires a middleman VM to make it possible.

As a child i always used VMware on WIndows 98, worked perfect!
Not sure if that ancient version of it could run Vista though.
Henky!
Also for me I always liked emulation and virtual machine. Unfortunately im pretty limited due to old hardware and other restrictions
There's Virtual Pc 2007 SP1 you can use, but now sure if it will work on Windows 98.
teh_supar_hackr 0010101 Not natively, maybe it will work with KernelEx
I've got Windows 95 running in XP with an older version of virtualbox which allows Windows XP as the host.
