This show was made a few years before I was born, but I grew up watching it in syndication. I used to watch The Munsters too, but I always preferred The Addams Family. I always used to think that I'd love to be friends with them.
I watched this show faithfully as a kid. It was part of a great Friday night lineup that included "Honey West" and "The Man From Uncle". Thanks for the happy memories!
The Addams Family came out around the same time as the Munsters. The idea was basically the same. Two rival shows, different families Herman Munster vs Gomez Addams, Lily Munster vs Morticia,Pugsley vs Eddie. The only difference there is the writers didn't give Eddie a sibling. Like Pugsley had Wednesday. Cousin Itt vs the dragon ( under the stairs) Grandpa vs the Jackie Coogan role. The Addams family had a butler Lurch The Munsters didn't. The humor was about the same. Both families were weird in their likes. Both loved to talk about bats, black cats and weird family members.
The genesis of the 2 shows was completely different. "The Munsters" capitalized on the popularity of the Universal movie monsters. "The Addams Family" was a televised version of Charles Addams' cartoon that appeared in the New Yorker magazine. Totally different concepts...
Hardly. Musters were all "Universal studio" horror characters. Addams Family was based on New Yorker cartoonist Charles Addams characters. The scripts were far better errand way more bizarre. Rival shows yes, same not by a long shot.
The Addams Family began as a series of 58 cartoons by Charles Addams published in The New Yorker magazine between 1938 and 1964, the characters being based (he claimed) somewhat on his own family. He then helped co-create a TV show based on his cartoons. The Munsters was an idea to create a sitcom based on Universal's movie franchises from 1931-45, with Grandpa (Dracula), Lily (Dracula's Daughter) and Herman (the Frankenstein monster) in a similar domestic situation to the Addams Family. A strange coincidence that they were made around the same time.....
I think Dr. Phlox (on "Enterprise") must've been modelled after him as he too had a pet bat and a carnivorous plant that ate a Tribble. My ring tone is the intro song, but I'm not goth in any way.
TED Cassidy (LURCH)WAS in AN episode OF THE original series OF STAR TREK with William SHATNER As captain Kirk and William SHATNER HOSTED A TV SHOW CALLED believe it OR NOT AND it CAN BE SEEN ON U tube
Jackie Coogan❗️ The first child superstar Actor, after a co-starring roll with Charlie Chaplin: [ “ The Kid” 1921]. One of my all-time favorite Actors. Could play any kind of character [ and did], but it was his perfect Comedic Timing that really showed through. 📻🙂
The Addams Family was based on the cartoons by Charles Addams. The cartoons originated in 1938 and ran in The New Yorker magazine. I would think “The Munsters” were a copy of them rather than the other way around.
I actually thought John Astin died years ago, didn't he play a Janitor in Gremlins 2 in 1992? Has anyone seen Wednesday on Netflix? Starring arguably the sexiest woman in Wales, Catherine Zeta Jones, as Morticia?
I hate to pop your bubble but that Now photo is not The Carolyn Jones. #1 Carolyn Jones had beautiful blue eyes. #2 Carolyn Jones had a very small pointed nose. That girl looks more like Linda Lavin on Alice. The other girl is Carolyn Phyllis Jones a British actress.
THE MUS.R BASE ON THE HORROR MOVIES. BUT THEY WERE NOT BAD. THEY WERE. FUNNY. A.F. WERE JUST WEIRDOS PLL. THEY WERE A RICH FAMILY. THAT'S WAS STRANGE&FUNNY👌👌👌👌
It's great to hear John Astin is still with us.
I hope he is doing well 🙏
John Astin is still alive …thats amazing
John Astin just outlived the cast
I'd love it if Netflix got Lisa Loring to make an appearance on Wednesday with Jenna Ortega and Christina Ricci. Wouldn't that be cool to see 😎
Brought so much joy to us young ones... So many thanks to the Adam's Family!
I enjoyed it as a kid. Sadly so many of them died youngish.
Loved that show and grew up with it
GREAT SHOW!!

I met "Gomez" in the summer of '92- GENUINELY NICE GUY!!
Didn’t know John Astin is still alive. So the original Gomez has outlived his successor (Raul Julia) by 28 years as of now.
Jackie Coogan (Uncle Fester) was well know since 1921 he played the part as "the kid" with Charles Chaplin in the masterpiece "The Kid".
Felix was in just about every movie and tv show that required a certain height. He’s a legend
Bellissimo video illustrativo! Grazie mille!
Weird how they all died with great sadness.

I grew up on both shows. The Munsters were the best lol
You did forget the cousin on the Munsters
Very enjoyable--thank you.
The Carolyn Jones in the photo is the British Actress. She died aged 77, in 2017, and was in Crossroads, amongst other Tv and radio work.
Uncle Fester was the Jackie Coogan role I couldn't remember.

Love that show, I am watching reruns of it ❤
Why are they all passing away so young ?

I met John Astin in San Diego on a movie set called Pepper Morales
I love this sitcom!!
Renan from Brazil
....and it was with great sadness that I watched this entire video.

Makes me think I should quit smoking 🚬
My childhood.... :(
For me this is The Addams family. Not everything what came after
John Astin played Gomez as if he were Groucho Marx.
Interesting to see Sharon from Crossroads.

Sad to find so many have passed, some of them not very old.
Cool video
The first picture is of a different Carolyn Jones she was a British actress who was in a 1970’s soap called crossroads.
You would do better without the clickbait thumbnails, the video was good, just stop clickbaiting!
Felix Silla was in the Wizard of OZ as well.
Seems Pennsylvania politics resurrected the relevance of this tv show via comparisons of Lurch and Uncle Fester with a PA politician.
My gosh so many died. Liked Addams family better than Munsters but watched both
Many of the older people have passed awhile ago.
Come on. Use photos of the ACTUAL people in your thumbnails. You are fooling no one.
THE ADDAMS Family, THE MUNSTER'S CAR 54 WHERE ARE YOU WERE GREAT SHOW'S in 1964
This is good but this was the TV show, not "the movie" as is continually referenced. But it's good
CAROLYN JONES
Does anyone know what happened to the original Morticia?
Hallo the addams family cast i am here guys❤️❤️🙏
Me too icom in after see the Wednesday
the father could play Vega, in a remake of street fighter movie. REST IN PEACE Raul Julia.
Wahnsinn, dass der alte Gomez noch lebt, wenn man bedenkt dass Raul Julia schon lange tot ist.
Gomez
io lì ho sempre amati ! ❤❤🙏🏻
Take care all of you TED!?
Doesn't look like old man John Astin. I googled him
Лапенко - путешественник во времени?
Friday night if I remember correctly?
Wow she was in Quincy ME just before.
