A “Field Recorder” sounds like some unnecessary nonsense that my sergeant would’ve made me pack in my bag in the military. All jokes aside, this thing looks cool.
Most all little digital recorders work good but can be tricky to learn. (I`m old and an analog guy). Getting the correct model for what you want to do is crucial. I had a Tascam 24 and it had good sound. I have an R8 and it`s a little more user friendly.
I have an older Tuscan recorder and it still works fine. They make good stuff and I really made some good recordings with it. My wasn't smart, like me😊
The Tascam X8 has 25% more "X" than the X6 for 14% more cost, what a bargain! Recording sounds pretty good with this unit, looking forward to lots of outdoor guitar videos, such as reviewing winter performance of all the guitar gear, for those -20C concerts. I was going to ask where the boat locks are but then I went to maps and saw there are locks, just not on this branch of the Rideau.
Been using my old DR-40 for almost 10 years now. A bit outdated (SD / mini USB anyone?) but I still love the thing. I really like setting my audio level on a single mic then having the 2nd track at -12db in case it clips.
I still use my Tascam MK11. It’s a very warm source for the cold cold Southern California winters. One time it was almost below 70* Fahrenheit and l whipped it out and wow! Oh what a night.
My first 4 track recorder back in the 90's was a tascam and I've been thinking about getting one if these things to record outside, so I might get one if those. ✍️

The Tascam Portacapture X6 arrived at the weekend and it works great with the iPhone via the USBC interface. So no more videos with bad sound recording :) The only thing you need is a camera adapter (Lightning to USB and then a USB to USBC cable). The iPhone is not recognised with the normal Lightning to USBC cable. Thanks for your video. :D
@@landonbaileyyes I did, I was just doing a stupid joke about the nature sounds, I maybe missed the mark a bit lol I actually find the room mic sound of guitar amps better in some ways than close mic’d, feels like it gives a better impression of the sound in the room

Mary Spender used a Tascam for many years. I don’t recall which model, but she spoke very highly of it in a few vids.
