Bolinger Munro. Using old platforms built for ICE and converting them is inefficient in comparrison to platforms built from the ground up for EV. Quite a few electric Land Rovers already exist.
Very inefficient and costly to convert old platforms in large numbers and making new ones to the same design is illegal nowadays due to all the rules around crash safety etc. so no chance of it happening.
Wow Richard, this project really showcases the diversity of ECC. The great thing is that you digitise all of your designed solutions so that you can replicate them, as you do with the kits you produce. Can’t wait to see you shaking down this monster around the Welsh Lanes👍🏴😎
That 80 kg of mass saved with the newer tyres is a HUGE deal - less mass to spin up on accelerating, less rotational (centrifugal) force to deal with on slowing down. We used to move our challenge vehicle on a small set of road tyres with the competition tyres loaded elsewhere on our tow vehicle - made a significant difference to stopping distance, even though the competition vehicle itself was unbraked when on the A-frame.
There is a truck bed solution that lets you hook the platform that is laying on the ground, and then lift it on top of the truck. Its not a crane, its a piston that lays underneath the bed when its loaded, so its invisible. It holds the bed in place when moving and overall its very practical and requires no labour. Also the new bed could allow 4 bikes mounted sideways I think, since they will be loaded on the ground and dont have to be going in from behind.
These conversions look great and desirable, but how's the security going? Because in case of an unfortunate accident the battery in front would get into the passenger compartment. Pass EURONCAP test?
With a 170 Kwh battery pack and the Defender weight (minus loaded bikes) and drag coefficiency, I'm estimating the efficiency to be around 1.2 miles/kwh good for about 200 miles of range. The Rivian is a ground-up wind tunnel optimized EV offroader and still only achieves 2 miles/kwh. Regardless another impressive build from ECC! 👏
The rivian might have been wind tunnel tested but I suspect a more significant design criterion was it should “look like a truck”. There is not much streamlining a designer can do with three rectangular boxes. One of them open topped.
The blocky tyre problem is universal ... Try a MTB with them on and the noise and the strain on your knees will soon tell you along with the tyre pressures. Pave blocks are better in all but deep mud /snow ...and even then theres still better choices if the vehicles light.
Any chance you could take a look at Advanced Electric Machines out Newcastle on Tyne.... They build modular motors that are free of rare earth magnets and largely free of copper. - 😎 way to go... And 🇬🇧 based.
@@110markb You do know that a study in the states concluded there was more loss from very hot conditions than very cold? . Anyway, my bet is that cold = poor grip and poor grip = range loss (which would affect an ICE vehicle just as much)
ECC, have you done any offroad colabs with US EV converters? I have yet to see any US shop developed a sealed EV offroader, any brand. The focus sees to be on roadsters.
9:18 😂 "old man noises" 😂 If your muscles are stiff then it means that you're not eating enough protein.. Great build 👍👍 Edit: the vehicle, not your body 😳
How easy was the middle battery pack to do and would you do it again instead of putting a pack elsewhere? Flippin' great stuff, need to get my lottery ticket so my 110 can get the electric upgrade.
This is 100% the most advance EV conversion out there. It really doesnt surprise me that its come out of the ECC garage. Insane Moggy and the team #EPIC 💪⚡️💯
I'm really intrigued to know what the range on this will be, with or without the Maxxis tyres. 170kWh is huge, but it's a blunt shed. Must be 300+ miles?
22 kW AC charging, I assume, is using 3 phase current? If the truck will be shipped for shows overseas, I assume, it has to use adaptors for charging, let's say in North America to CCS1, China to GB, in Japan to Chademo. I believe it was way too complicated to fit high voltage batteries inside the frame of the truck, to create that famous skateboard, thus to have the ability to make battery pack of the size of 250 kW. That is the number claimed to be fit into upcoming new RAM EV truck.
@@ElectricClassicCars I thought this is a show truck. That being said it has to travel worldwide accompanying the company's events. I know, most of the world follows CCS2 like in Europe. China has its own GB, a derivative of Chademo. The latter is predominant in Japan. North America slowly is transitioning from CCS1, Chademo to NACS, the traditional Tesla type connector. However if the truck stays in Europe then yes, just CCS2 is perfect.
As we said in the video the project is not finished and the cables are not connected, therefore those rear cables are just hanging there in that location. Not there now. 👍

Toyota hybrids have been in production since 1997, with no change to the infrastructure, unlike all electric vehicles. Edison motors has built a logging truck which is hybrid. One of the best things about hybrids is that their fuel economy is at least 35% better than a regular automatic transmission vehicle. If emissions were truly, the target that the EPA is after they would have recommended 20 years ago that hybrids were the answer. But the EPA is controlled by lobbyists, which are paid by corporations which are owned by the private Central Bank through Vanguard and BlackRock. Which means that the private Central Bank uses the citizens as debt slaves to support the Central Bank. Until a government buy the people and for the people is installed and the private Central Bank is no longer in existence. You will not have any progress in fuel Economy and vehicles because the trail of money goes to the private Central Bank. The culture war, also known as 5th Generation. Unlimited warfare is also being waged on us by the private Central Bank in order to break the people and take over the world. Their propaganda arm is a World Economic Forum and it states clearly that they want a one world government. All electric vehicles will not work Until the infrastructure is created. And creating an infrastructure to make electric vehicles. Work is not in the best interest of the oil companies who are owned by the bankers, etc. Etc.
For the same reason timber veneer is considered luxury. It’s more expensive then the alternative material. If car makers could use marble flooring they would. Leather is a bizarre material to use in a vehicle that actually going to do work.
It's very odd people consider a cows arse a luxury thing, there any many fabrics that work and feel better, without looking tacky and weighing a ton. Marble tho, nah, look at Trump's houses, you see luxury?
I would think that Land Rover would copy this. In my opinion, this is a better option than the ICE version.
Bolinger Munro.

Välkommen tillbaka till Sverige med den sen! 🙂
When finished must be the best 130 out there .Like the internal plugs to charge the bikes .Also the bike locks are a really good design.

Less un-sprung mass too but not sure how important on a Defender.
Totally agree
