US calls for cease-fire as Israel prepares for potential ground assault on Lebanon | DW News

  • The US, France, Arab nations and most G7 countries have issued a statement calling for an immediate 21-day cease-fire across the Israel-Lebanon border. The call comes after a major escalation in the conflict that has seen thousands of Israeli strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon as well as the capital Beirut, leaving hundreds dead. Hezbollah has also fired barrages of rockets into Israel. While efforts to secure a cease-fire continue, Israel's army chief has put troops on alert for a possible ground invasion into Lebanon.

They’re trying to buy time. For several months US and France have been trying to get Hezbollah to stop the almost daily attacks on Israel but they refused. Israel demanded that they pull back from the UN imposed buffer zone which they illegally occupied but Hezbollah refused. So will Hezbollah now agree to do so within the 21 days? That remains to be seen. What happens if after 21 days there’s no ceasefire in Gaza and Hezbollah doesn’t pull back?

Ceasefire is bad option for terrorists who attacked a sovereign country. Otherwise any country can attacked any other country and called for ceasefire thereafter.

The discussion in this war is absurd. First.
Israel acted selflessly to live in peace with the Palestinians in Gaza. It was more than a decade ago when Israel itself relocated thousands of individuals living in Gaza with lethal force from their homes to follow the agreement, which obligated the Palestinians in return to stop any kind of aggression towards Israel. The Palestinians had the chance to build a safe, functional, and prosperous livelihood. But the first thing the Palestinians did in return was to elect a government that enshrined the goal of destroying Israel in their constitution. The elected government followed through with its promise. Since its founding, thousands of rockets have flown into Israel. Dozens of civilians died in terrorist attacks. Millions of aid funds - intended for civilian purpose - were misused to build rockets, tunnels, and other nonsense. The crimes committed on October 7th like raping women, killing children, or kidnapping a baby, was Humus has been doing for years. Secondly. Israel behaved more humanely in this conflict than any other conceivable party in any imaginable conflict. It allowed Palestinians to work in Israel, receive medical care or even migrate into their country. During war, they warn civilians where their military is operating. They admit collateral damage and apologize for it. They saved Sinwar’s life giving him a lethal brain surgery. They treated the daughter of Haniyyas daughter for her complex disease in Israel. While Humus was building rockets and tunnels with all the foreign aid, Israel supplied their civilians with free water and electricity. The situation is clear. In no other conflict the responsibility for the suffering has been so one sided and clear - in no other conflict have the perpetrators been held accountable so weakly. The same goes for any related conflict: Hezbollah, Houthis, etc…the more peacefully you try to live with them, the more visible their genocidal intents becomes.
People with voice and power who claim to reject war have the duty to unequivocally name the culprit of this war and do everything in their power to eliminate them. Everything else is responsibility for the resulting suffering and will extend it.

The UN is a joke………. And here’s why a UN “peacekeeping” force of roughly 10,000 “peacekeepers” has been in Lebanon for over 40 years after the Israeli/Lebanese conflict in the 1970’s in which when an agreement was reached Israel honored their side of the agreement but Lebanon (thru Hezbollah) did not. So the question is, what exactly has this UN “peacekeeping” force in Lebanon been doing, especially over the past year that Hezbollah has been launching weapons indiscriminately into Israel? So the UN peacekeepers in Lebanon aren’t the problem the UN IS THE PROBLEM. The idea that the UN Security Council, essentially just siting in a building while passing judgment on other countries while not even honoring their obligations they made in a prior agreement (that Israel/Lebanon one from earlier) is an ABSOLUTE example of a Violation that they (the UN) is laughable…… and probably the reason most human beings actually feel that the UN is a failure…………

Because the world community of nations understands that Hezbollah and their weapons were useless. They launch a rocket over the border and the Iron Dome would take it out. “Yawn, just another day.” However, everyone knows that when Israel acts its ’game over’ for the recipient. Like ‘em or hate ‘em but the IDF is always 10 steps ahead and their intelligence services are phenomenal.

This Israel operations in Lebanon should be now. I don't see any much loss of troops on the side of Israel military because with proper coordination and communication and with the fact that Israel is familiar with the terrain, it's a smooth evasion.
If Hezbollah couldn't learn the lessons they need to learn now that will restrain them to maintain the various peace accords, the Israel border is still at high risk.

They clearly do not support civilians because that would require supporting civil society which clearly, they do not.
Side Note: I live in Ontario, Canada. Our provincial premier, along with many others and several federal leaders also do not support civil society. They don't even pretend to anymore. So it's not a localized thing, but it is a more hostile one in Israel, because some guys said it's holy, which it's not. Nothing is, because everything is.
