      Well, is it a major lable that has people to answer to? It would be easy for me to release a very gruesome "album" with a bloody picture. This was Columbia Records. It was sold, not only in stores, but was sold in their record club. Do they have a 12" vinyl record with an album cover you can walk into a store or order and hold in your hands, available to the masses. The context is, it was available ANYWHERE to anyone. I know there are many, much more gruesome examples of modern digital covers on independent labels. However, they're not mass-produced 12" vinyl with stock holders and executives to answer to. That's my point. I'm sorry that was evident.

  • @CKNZ161
    @CKNZ161 3 месяца назад +1

    The most "offensive" (read that "edgy") album covers would be among the extreme metal / rap genre.
    For example, there's grind core / metal band Brujeria and their album "Matano Güeros". Warning before looking it up, it is graphic.
    Cannibal Corpse are also known for their cover art as were sex-oriented 2 Live Crew.
    Rapper Paris' post 9/11 album "Sonic Jihad" depicts a plane being flown at the White House. He was an artist that previously released a song titled "Bush Killa" from his 1990s album "Sleeping With the Enemy" so, no fucks shall continue to be given by him it seems.
    Guns N Roses "Appetite for Destruction" and the robot rapist inside cover art caused controversy as did W.A.S.P.'s "Fuck Like a Beast" featuring a bestial rape themed art piece.
    Dead Kennedy's HR Giger's penis vagina landscape featured on the inside sleeve of their "Frankenchrist" album.
    "Offensiveness" is subjective and while some complain about graphic pictures of actual or fictional mutilation, others find nudity unacceptable. Then there is consideration for, the overall context in which an image is used, which is also subject to being viewed and understood in a spectrum of personal tolerances, constructs a basis on which people will decide if an image is artistically justified or not. Often, these days the context is out of the window in favour of outrage and this is as applicable to both the political left and the political right.
    I would like to think that there was a long lost Glenn Miller's Orchestra album cover depicting a nun dildo-pegging Harold Lloyd while Oliver Hardy flayed a still alive Stan Laurel in the background for his "Pennsylvania 65000" track but, alas this never existed.

    If we're talking about gory album art, I think Big Black - Headache is about as extreme as it gets. It was released by Touch And Go records in 1987 and features two photos of the head of a shotgun suicide victim, one with the head split apart and one with it folded back together.
