We move here 16 yrs ago from NY! My advice is to learn about native animals, plants and herbs! Get 2 water reserves and one good water filter! Learn to can food, use our plants and herbs to cure and maintain yourselves healthy! I wanted to start videos to help newcomers with this but life put me to care for mom with alziehmers! One day I will start showing how to live self sufficient and you will be so happy! Many blessings!

Lived in PR my whole life and I have never had to worry about none of that non sense that you mention.
I left upstate NY at age ten and moved to Rio Canas Arriba Mayaguez that has similar view looking into the sea. Your kids have a better appreciation than I did. Water would go out. And power. I was so bored. No TV. Roads bad. School far. No sports. BUT as an old man I look back and see how peaceful and beautiful the area is. Land that will be with your family for generations. Beautiful land to build hermano! Make sure that the "fill" pad where you plan to build is stable, with good compaction and a stable slope (well-rooted). Protect it from erosion, and follow good building codes. In other words, hire a Puerto Rico-licensed civil engineer to help you prepare, before you build your beautiful home. Blessings!

Congratulations on your land! You have a beautiful family and I wish you the best on building your house. My wife and I built our house in the mountains of western NC, and it has been a blessing, but a lot colder than PR, with snow several months. We have visited PR 3 times now and fell in love with the island and the people.

This brings back memories! My uncle runs a small guitar group in Canovanas and he travels many times to Guavate to that exact same restaurant in the first turn to play music. I’ve been there a few times, great food and great people.

My family used the river as a electric generator and the water with a filter and we never pay for any buills only food but we have chicken and many other things and the government can't do anything lol god bless Puerto Rico and her land ps is in utuado and i go to visit

So you were one of those like a classmate I had in High School. The lizards he used to pick up were like two to three inches long and he will place them on each ear for a lively and nice looking pair of earrings. It also brought me back memories.

Just seeing this a year later. My MIL lives in Cayey, and when we visit it's always a treat to go to Guavate. Word of advice; don't take pictures with the parrot . The guy charges 1.00, but both my daughter and I got really sick in the hospital for almost 10 days from.it. other than that, that's a beautiful location on the island. Best wishes. Cuz! I love this! I have land in Sabana grande but I currently live in Texas and I'm in the process of daydreaming what I want to build and grow on the land. It was my grandfather's land and I want to do him honor by keeping it worked and beautiful. I hope you are able to cover some of the logistics like getting utilities to the land, farming restrictions, building codes and considerations, etc. I'll be subscribing to your journey! When you can install a generator and a water cistern, will help during storms and when the lights and water are off. Much blessings

You guys remind me of me and my wife and daughters when we had moved to Puerto Rico five years ago. We stood there for a year and we ended up returning back to New Jersey. Reason that we left was because the schools were not doing to well with education mostly do to low funding. Although looking at it now we didn't really give it try since we left so quick and didn't give it enough time to solve the kinks. We could've home schooled our girls and did okay. Puerto Rico is a beautiful place to live and a wonderful experience. At least my daughters was able to learn her roots and culture. I could see myself living there again in the near future. Bro, i lived my middle and high school years in Bo. Aibonito, Hatillo in the 80s. Would hitch hike to my HS and get to school before the bus. Me snd my wife came to NY 15 years ago. Stidied and got my medical career. Just bought a 200+K home in Country Club Carolina Puerto Rico abd have a crew doing some remodeling work. Can't wait until it's done.

Sr. Ramos, I live en El Barrio, Spanish Harlem NYC. You have no idea how many neighbors I have that worked & saved to fullfil the dream of return to PR. Unfortunately, for one reason or another their dreams were not realized. Some past away, others Hurricane Maria ruined there plans. It makes me happy to see some were able to fulfill that dream. I want a little better road however the view and experiences are priceless. Please keep uploading, I'm gonna sub.
