Ok so prohack, stab the lower 1/3 of the bag and bottom a few dozen times with a screw driver. Then slit the top and put your hose in the top and rinse the media right in the bag until the run off comes out clean. Then pick up your bag and dump it in the pot or media bed. Makes it WAY faster to do a bunch of hydroton that way and its more fun.
Thank you very much. Many times it is the little details that only experience will teach you. If you don't know, how are you supposed to know? lol. I appreciate you dropping in and checking this out. Cheers :)
I use clay balls in my living soil but i like to charge them with nutrients and homemade lacto. I wait until there is a nice fuzz all over them before i mix into soil. I do same thing with homemade charcoal.
Are you going to be running that new AC infinity auto watering setup? I’ve been pretty curious about it, great tip on prep work here. Take the extra steps to set yourself up for success, love it my dude!
You know it, our brains work alike. Take the variables out of things by taking just a few extra minutes. An ounce of prevention.... right? :) I've not seen that system, I will be rocking with the AutoPot system. Stoked to give them a try.
They are dry, in a bag, and get transported. They could start clean and be dirty due to the erosion caused by abrasion as the product is moved from manufacturer to seller, to buyer. Every time it is moved it gets beat up. Just a thought on how "dirty" a product it is. I just throw them in a collander under a sink sprayer for .5 hour and they seem pretty clean. Great topic and vid.
Thank you for your input. Totally right, those things are abrasive and during shipment they will rub together, making a fine dust that settles on the material in the bag. This is a solid reason to make sure everyone gives them a wash before using. Cheers :)
Those balls are used for aquaponics grow beds a lot but I haven't tried them. Seems like lava would be better for aeration, I'm using it instead of perlite and it works. I just use granite gravel in my aquaponics systems because it's cheap and local. Were the dirty balls expensive?
They weren't expensive at all and they are reusable, which lowers the price of them each run. Lava would be nice and porous and I bet that works well too, I'm not sure of the price or where to source a bunch of it from. These balls are very similar in texture and weight. I'm hoping it works well, it was recommended, but we shall see. Cheers!
TBH, I went on Amazon due to my location. Fortunately, they are light, shipping shouldn't be terrible. Your local grow store is always the first option, but if the size is large enough, go direct to the manufacturer / importer. You'll find these in hardware stores, garden stores, ect. they are pretty common.
Really enjoying your nice clean balls... clay balls that is.. smh lol. I use pumice in my bottom 1" and never tried these because I didn't know anything about them. They are fairly cheap in comparison so thanks for the dedicated study. People would be very surprised if they started check there numbers on name brand coco and peat. Washing/rinsing is eliminating that variable for me. Thanks again!
Pumice would be a nice one too, as you mentioned though, a little pricey. Good suggestion, thank you :) These are reusable too, which makes the value even better IMO. I recently used a mix that had pumice in it, I really liked it, I hadn't used that as aeration before. Cheers!
hey Chad on a 8 week or a 10 week strain when would you back off with the bloom booster(build a soil build a bloom) currently using gia green on 2 and grow dots on 2…..and all 4 getting recharge+fish shit and …bos silca and bos build a bloom
@@growingatthebeach9186 It sounds like they are getting plenty right now. I'd back off the last couple of weeks. My preference is to see a nice fade on the plant and because yield is not my driving factor, I'm ok with missing out on a few grams per plant.

Boom! Mind blown :) Thank you for dropping in with the pro-hack Steve. We all just got smarter. Cheers!
Great tip
Won’t help with the ppm/ph. Gotta soak them.
Another great educational video. Never thought to wash the hydroton. If I ever use it now I know to wash them before using. Thanks Chad! 🙏

Thank you for coming around :) Cheers dude.
Great tips!!
Thank you very much for stopping by and taking the time to say so. Cheers :)
Ball soaking is a must for us growers that are over 50 and use large containers.
Its also a good time for a stem rub if your into that. 🙃🙂
You're killing me smalls :) But yes, preparation is key. Cheers!
I'm not even 50 yet and I don't like to start out with dirty balls..
🤙
Much love :)
You always got some good info brother

Nice! I've not tried that or considered that. Sounds like a fun little bonus hack. Thank you for sharing :)

You must have the cleanest balls on the block. Bravo sir :)
I had a plastic tub full of hydroton and the effing movers thought they were some kind of dried out berries and threw them away. Morons.
oh no! They kind of look like Cocoa Puffs, but throwing them out.... that hurts. Thank you for sharing your pain Andy ;)
