I am a native Finnish speaker, who's native dialect is very close to standard Finnish. I rarely use the word "Mä", since the way I naturally construct sentences makes the use of "minä" mostly not needed and using "mä" would make me feel I am faking some dialects. If I want to, I can to some extent mimic some dialects, but they don't feel natural for me. I would simply say: "Olen työskennellyt hoitajana Israelissa viisi vuotta ". "Olen" already means about the same as "I have", so starting with ""mä"/"I", is just repetitive emphasis. I mentioned this mostly because your experience seems to be that nobody actually has standard language as their native dialect. I had somewhat unusual childhood at the age when I learned to speak. It made me to adopt standard language and not to pick up anything else. And I am stubborn enough to speak the way I do, no matter how all others speak.😀 For me their dialects and slang sounds like broken Finnish. But I would never say so to anyone. I understand and accept that languages are living and changing things, with many variations. Immigrants bring a new layer of input and variations to the language.
Hi just42tube! Wow! I have not heard that from a Finnish person but I have noticed that they dont really use mä. That is something that I can apply though honestly as a non-native speaker I am used to saying mä or sä because I feel that I have to. Thank you so much for that. There is a bit unnecessary repetition if one says: "tällä hetkellä opiskelen". The world "opiskelen" already tells that you're currently studying. "Tällä hetkellä" doesn't add any information. But it can been seen as an indirect way to emphasize that this is something temporary and in the future you do something else. Why someone would like to have such emphasis, I don't know.
It is like saying that now I am on some side track in my life, but I'll return later to my main track.
