I remember watching this when it came out and I was a sad, sad, teenager constantly thinking about ending it all. I was not expecting this episode to pull me out of the bottom and now rewatching it I feel so grateful for its existence.
God this episode is so emotional and cathartic! What a journey. Beautiful as always too. That hallway scenes towards the end is just as beautiful visually as it is emotionally. Elliot and Angela both needed that (and so did we! 😂) Love how this episode goes from being one of the darkest to one of the most hopeful as the soundtrack swells up in the end and carry’s us away
This is the shows crowning achievement imo. I mean nearly every ep in season 4 comes close to topping it, but as a standalone statement for the shows status as a GOAT this is it.
To add to what you both were saying, I also just think that Trenton's family leaving was a very similar image to post-9/11 NYC. I think there were lots of Muslims who probably had to or wanted to flee from NYC after 9/11 because they wouldn't be safe anymore or because they were stared at everywhere they went and stereotyped after that.
The song playing in the end was 'In Time' by Robbie Robb. It is from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) - another time travel movie like Back to the Future. Seems like there are a lot of references to time travel.
Can't stop crying I love this episode sooo much. This show! My GOAT! Amazing reaction I'm so glad you two picked this show up not many do but thank you!
Lola is basically me whenever i watch a film with someone else. love seeing your emotions like this, it really shows how impactful film can be. this episode is amazing. apart from the obvious plot which is heartbreaking, there are sooooo many other small and big details to pick apart and analyze. the fact that we get to see Elliot talking to an imaginary person for the first time, all the back to the future stuff, the comments on America's treatment of Muslims, and the importance of hope in the darkest of times. beautiful!
When this episode came out I was destroyed, as someone who has struggled with suicidal thoughts and ideations, it was a very hard one to go through, but a beautiful one as well. This episode was like a reminder, that no matter what happens we will be okay. It was the little things, they seem very magical but I like to think that when you are considering deletion it's like your brain see every mundane thing and make it a sign from the universe not to do it. The little kid who saw his sadness reflect it in Elliot and wanted to help. He knew deep down what Elliot wanted to do and in his own way tried to avoid it. It can also be that the kid was his imagination and tbh, it can be, Elliot's brain screaming and kicking not to do it. And the ice-cream driver, and the movie and the people wanting to dress up to celebrate little things. It was so heartbreaking but so real.
this show has a few moments from here on out that just made me cry because of how meaningful and beautiful they are and this is one of the first ones where i wasnt just super involved because of how thrilling the show was but also with how well it deals with emotions.
I'm not a person that tends to cry while watching tv shows or movies, but oh man...the last mins for this ep are just something else. This ep. Is what made this show for me to make the leap from "very good" to "top notch".
I just found this channel and i miss Mr. Robot a LOT. One of my favorite shows of ALL TIME. And i'm gonna binge-watch your journey to relive the experience all over again. ❤️
BTW, that song "In Time" is yet another great clue about the direction of the episode and series. Sam Esmail is a child of the 80s, and his choice of not only Back To The Future 2, but also using another song about going back in time from a movie that employs time travel (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure) is just a master stroke of genius. Y'all are about to see and react to the best season Finale ever made. The season 3 finale is the best season finale I've ever seen. I'll be looking out for that reaction.
When I was watching the series for the second time half year before season 4 aired, this episode really broke me during last scene with Trenton's brother, always want to cry when Elliot cries 😢
I was waiting for this onee, loved your reaction. This is the best episode of the show for me. I remember watching runtime error and saying it was the best episode ever, then the same thing happened with Kill process, but then I saw this, and it somehow topped the other two. And it made me realize the show was above everything I had ever watched (and still is). That Elliot/Angela scene is so beautiful, both visually and emotionally. The name of the episode being the subject from Trenton's email. The fact that the episode starts at the movies and then is shot in a movie format.
When you watch the show the second time and realized Elliot talked Angela out of suicide. Hence the episode title. This is the greatest filler episode ever.
Filler isn't a dirty word. Everyone just thinks it is. It pretty often means an episode that is simply a standalone or even a character development driven one. It just doesn't propel the primary plot forward directly.
@@alexspringer7666 The definition of a filler episode is one in which nothing happens to affect the progress of the long-term story arcs or to develop the main characters. That is an incorrect term for this episode. It's massively significant for Elliot, and changes the direction of the plot moving forward. We shouldn't use terms that are not only inaccurate, but have negative connotations.
@@theodor2877 It changes Elliot, which changes the plot going forward. It doesn't change the nature of the external conflict directly. It's filler, by definition. It's a shit word for it, because it also means some fluff episodes in lesser shows, and even some good ones, but it's kind of the only word we've got. I'm all for a better descriptor. Edit: consider that Tales of Ba Sing Se and The Beach, every MoTW episode of X-Files, all but maybe 7 episodes of Cowboy Bebop and even s1e4 of Mr Robot are essential pieces of the story, but not because they move plot forward, but because they move characters forward or at least show how they behave in a different situation than we're used to. And I will state again, that there needs to be a better word.
I didn’t expect the change of pace so I found this episode slowish but cmon it was fucking beautiful. It just makes me more nervous cause I care about everyone. I somehow even like Tyrell
i think you guys are starting to realize that this show isn’t as much about the details of what’s real or not, but it’s about the experience elliot has and the journey he invites us to share with him as his “friends”. “hello friend”.
That's not right. It's a combination of paying attention to the details and going along for Elliott's experience (even as we've seen, he can force us to see what he wants us to see; ie. season 2 "jail time"). But make no mistake, the details are an integral part of this show. If you paid attention to the details throughout the series, Mr Esmail lays out everything for you. Think back @12:57 of this video, when Young Elliot says to his Dad: "You're just sick, and you don't want to admit it." How critical those words are to the whole series!! Even the lyrics or the names of the songs Mr Esmail chooses clue you into what's going to happen. Remember M83 "Gone" from Season 1, Episode 8, where Elliott tries to hack himself and finds that there's no Elliott anywhere to be found. Then he finds that blank CD with all the pics of his Dad, and then Mr. Robot shows up. Just think, these women have yet to experience and react to the best season finale ever made. The Season 3 Finale. 😆
imo that’s why the show is so good cause you really don’t remember all the details like that but you never forget the experience of watching it. and when you rewatch it almost feels like a new experience each time but somehow achingly familiar.
the thing is, what does "winning" actually mean? i actually really like this intro discussion, i feel like they've actually given this a lot of thought and maybe have learned something from it. I agree completely that trying to dismantle capitalism is like trying to slay that many headed monster, no matter how many you take down there's always gonna be more. Because that's just the natural order of things, all this down with capitalism stuff, its never gonna happen, people should just learn to make the most of it imo.
@@Inquiringmind0 ah yes, class divisions and extreme wealth inequality totally arent problems today right. Nope, certainly no slavery or feudalism happening in the world anymore. All those greedy power hungry people in the world just had a meeting and decided to start being nice guys, and to stop exploiting those with less power and influence than them.. you're a fool if you don't think we're not all just slaves for some feudal lord.
