regular white ball is easily one of the prettiest songs on the album but this one just fucking SCARES me. i feel like you could tie it back to her murder if you wanted to.
Demos are typically an expedited process, often at the earliest iterations of the initial compositional elements, and before the often long before the song is well rehearsed or refined. They’re generally only intended for in-house ears only, to ever hear. It’s for communication a rough compositional outline, kind of like a visual artist doodling on scratch paper, or making thumbnails on tracing paper, at best. It’s not intended to have had a lot of time invested in it, or refinement. We’re lucky to have been gifted an example of a song from the album, so early and raw, in it’s conception. It gives insight and depth, into how much time and effort went into making the final cut of the album.
It actually was. It was a Tally Hall song that they performed live at least once but never made it onto any albums. They just never bothered finishing for whatever reason. Here’s a recording of a live performance of it btw (audio only unfortunately) ruclips.net/video/F0lqszf_FnY/видео.html
@stoopid apples I've always interpreted time machine as the "main character" in the album looking back on his life wanting to go back before it all went wrong.
It’s interesting to hear just how different the demos are from the final product. Sometimes it’s a full song, sometimes it’s just a small snippet of one. Sometimes the lyrics are near identical, other times, they’re completely different. It’s kinda crazy just how much diversity there is.
fun fact! The Mind Electric as a concept is over 15 years old if not older, it was meant to appear on Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum under the title Inside the Mind of Simon, hence "Resident Simon, how do you plead?"
Black Rainbows doesn’t actually have a demo - the version used is just the a cappella, I believe. Same for white ball, the version is simply a solo version.
Black Rainbows demo is truly a masterpiece. It’s beauty brought me to tears no less than 3 times. 10 outta 10. Edit: I also cannot listen to it without imaging that stupid “Aaaauugh” meme now.
I personally prefer the final, but I see how demos can sound better than the final sometimes subjectively, like how I feel over the sweet bod demo over the final by neil cicierega
A third hook really makes it a W. I like the sound of the final one a bit more but it feels lacking only having 2, it's like, it's played once, like two lines are said, it's played again, then it's just gone, feels very empty without it.
i haven’t found much comments about it but the demo of Stranded Lullaby is so pretty like the lyrics are beautiful and it’s very peaceful and melancholic..
i saw this really cool theory for this albums lore so basically this album tells the story of a guy who runs away and sails to hawaii and meets this girl and falls in love with her but ends up witnessing the murder of said girl. he gets wrongfully accused and convicted of her murder, so he decides to plead insane so he is let off easy, but he ends up getting sent to an asylum and he is forced to go through traumatic electroshock therapy. this really makes him go mad and he soon gets the hell outta hawaii and when he sails back, he drowns himself and “feeds himself to sirens,” and he reunites with his love in the afterlife. also his name is simon you can’t convince me it isn’t 😭 btw i would love to see an experimental abstract-horror film made outta this theory
Something about this version of stranded lullaby really makes me feel a lot of emotions. Something about wanting to sing it to someone while they sleep in my arms or something like that Makes me so excited for when I get a significant other :)!
If Hawaii Part II was ever made into a movie or play, then I feel this version would either be put before White Ball or after Murders, and the final version would be the somber reprise near the end.
everybody is taking about white ball but do you see how they absolutely slaughtered black rainbows? its my favorite song and it sounds really weird in the demo 🤨
that was joe doing acapella, not specifically a true demo because... i guess joe's ideas weren't finished in it? like as if he planned instruments but was limited to his own voice
Well it's not the finished product. I think it was just his ideas. So to say he "slaughtered" it is actually the opposite of what happened: he allowed it to grow and develop into what it is now. You should be thankful this version exists because without it you might have never gotten to hear the version you like so much
@@MagikalKrabical ooh silly, but it is just a figment of your mind. you see, you made it all up! its not real! your mind is sick, twisted and warped deep to such an extent, making you think something so bizzare and unreal as some ''labyrinth'' could exist. it has very certainly claimed its glory over you. see how it plays around? do you hear it? do you see it? do you feel it? well, its not real! and thus, as much as your mind wants to convince you, make you delusionate, and confuse you, the idea itself of ''labyrinth'' existing is rotten deep in its roots.
