He's one of the five that are credited with creating parkour. It was a group of friends messing around till they started getting more and more competitive with one another.
This is a great portrayal of Bond becoming Bond. A newly promoted 007, he makes mistakes, gets emotional, and falls in love. When he's betrayed, he ices over and becomes the Bond we know. "The job's done. And the bitch is dead." Actually a line in the novel.
We all make mistakes but the mistakes bond makes involves his selfless sacrifice for the good of his country and the world, for the innocents and the weak he protects. He is such a good man.
@@Jackholiday1025 Well this is romanticized, obviously... But at the "core" if we take this in the "real world" he's not a good man: he's a spy, a killer working only for his government interest. When Craig was getting criticized for being chosen as Bond, Pierce Brosnan took him out to dinner and told him to ignore the criticism and go for it. The rest is history.
Thank you Carly, for explaining the worst torture scene in James Bond history to Cassie. 😂😆😁 The one that brought a theatre full of grown men to tears.
The first time I watched it, I was a kid… had no understand, so when I rewatched again with my ex bf at his house, I sat through it completely unfazed. Hence… my EX

"Casino Royale" and "Skyfall" are Daniel Craig's best works as James Bond. Also, this goes beyond just being a great James Bond film, it's a brilliant action film in general.
I would add No Time To Die, I had a great time watching that movie, it had the feel of the old Bond movies, with the villain, the plan to destroy the world, the island, the car with the gadgets, Hans Zimmer in the music, etc. And filmed as if it was made by Nolan.

Casino Royale is AMAZING!!! I've seen it so many times and there's always something new to appreciate on each viewing! Martin Campbell, the director, doesn't get enough credit!
Yeah It is a great movie. I really, really like it. But I can help to notice a fatal plot hole, I mean they could detain lachife the minute he arrive at Montenegro, by simply detain him he would not be able to regain the money, and would have no other options but coperate.
Director Martin Campbell copied the cinematography of Doug Liman, the director of THE BOURNE IDENDITY. Martin Campbell is not an innovator, he's an imitator.
@@hughjorg4008 Wtf are you on about? Martin Campbell directed Goldeneye in 1995. Doug Liman wasn't even an established director back then. As for the Daniel Craig entries in the franchise, yes the first two entries were influenced by the first Bourne film but that's because of lazy writing. Btw, Quantum of Solace which has action beats similar to the second Bourne film, was directed by Marc Forster and the second Bourne film was directed by Paul Greengrass. So, I have no clue how you arrived at the conclusion of Martin Campbell aping Doug Liman? Go back and do your homework bud.
Chris Cornell - You know my name, in my opinion, a masterpiece of an opening for a Bond movie. My favorite for sure! Casino Royale is my favorite Bond movie as well. Also, kudos to Carly for singing I'll make a man out of you. 😂
Not only was this a fantastic movie, but it was also a really great adaptation of the original book. (Casino Royale was the very first James Bond novel, so it was a perfect place to reboot the franchise.)
This is an adaptation of the first Bond novel, and despite the story being moved over 50 years into the future, it actually follows the story of the novel pretty closely. The first half is original to the film, but once Bond arrives in Montenegro it is a surprisingly faithful adaptation.
The original movie was made in 1966 as a satire with David Niven as Bond, co-starring Woody Allen, Peter Sellers, Orson Welles and original Bond Girl Ursula Andress.
Daniel Craig has my two favorite Bond films of all time, Casino Royale and Skyfall. This movie is incredible, not just as an addition to the Bond franchise, but as an action film in general.
Vesper’s dialogue in the dinner scene after Bond wins is fascinating. She says, "You've got a choice, you know. Just because you've done something, it doesn't mean that you have to keep doing it." On the surface, she's talking about Bond being an agent and killing people, but the subtext for her is she's talking about betraying her government and by extension, Bond. She's already in love with him, and she's having to deal with the realities of her situation. It was easy for her to betray her government when it was just a faceless institution, but it's much more difficult for her now that she deeply cares about someone personally victimized by her betrayal. By saying that Bond still has a choice in what he does, she is also saying that she can choose to stop being a traitor. But she can't quite convince herself, which is why she's so adamant that Bond can change; it's not really about whether Bond can change, it's about whether she can. Bond returns with a quip about people who can't take advice being the ones who always give it. This startles Vesper because, like the scene on the train, he can see through her. He can't see completely through her; he doesn't know what she's struggling with, but he can see that she's driven by something. Vesper is so rattled by Bond's insight that she's put on the defensive and answers his question with a question of her own, sidestepping the issue. Bond brings the issue back to the forefront by revealing how much he's able to see through her, and saying that he'll never know what's driving her. This is a perfect opportunity for Vesper to come clean and tell him everything, but the opportunity is lost. She gets a text, Bond realizes that Mathis is a traitor, Vesper is kidnapped, then Bond is kidnapped, and then she is forced to make a deal to save Bond's life by giving up the money Bond won in the tournament. After that, it's too late for her. She can't tell him her situation because the people she was working with would kill Bond. So they continue to fall in love, but she knows the relationship is doomed. Her only hope is to die and pay for her sins against Bond. She knows he'll hate her forever, but his hatred is worth it if it keeps him alive. She loves him more than she values her own life.
Very nice observation. I think too that it wasn't just that she cared about someone victimized by her betrayal, but also that Bond became an example of true sacrifice and steadfastness. She got to see what he was willing to do for his country and that betrayal could never even be a consideration for him. He nearly died by poison but then shrugged it off as quickly as he could muster to return to his mission. He didn't falter or look for an excuse to not go on. There is no slowing down, no giving up. He is absolutely willing to do whatever he can and I think she felt shame at putting one person above her country and all of its citizens; at selfishly ignoring the bigger picture. At least in spirit I think this may have occurred to her, whether or not she could actually articulate that way.
"She gets a text, Bond realizes that Mathis is a traitor," No. Vesper sets up Mathis as the traitor and Bond is too close to Vesper to realize it. "Your friend Mathis is actually my friend Mathis." We don't get confirmation about this until Quantum of Solace.
Christine Granville or Krystyna Skarbek Polish girl in SOE and SIS during WWII Ian Fleming met her and they had some kind of romance. Vesper character is based on her.

Theme song by Chris Cornell, probably the greatest rock singer of our generation (who commited a suicide in 2017). Audioslave, Soundgarden... The title sequence is overall IMO best in the franchise history, not just the song but the animation
I know, I know. Nobody likes the PC police. But the phrase "died by suicide" is preferred nowadays by mental health advocates because it takes the pejorative culpability/criminality connotations out of it. Chris Cornell lost a very difficult war. We should be empathetic of that fight.
Agreed, though I think Chris might be neck and neck with Layne Staley of AIC for greatest rock singer of our time. In fact,(and I’m an enormous Beatles fan), I think Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley might’ve been our generation’s answer to Lennon and McCartney. Either way, R.I.P., both Chris and Layne. And John, for that matter. You are all missed.
The late great Chris Cornell did Casino Royale's intro. I miss him... The black guy at the start of the film is Sebastian Foucan, a Frenchman who founded freerunning and is widely considered the grandfather of modern day parkour.
45:44 Best use of the Bond theme ever ! You've not heard it in it's complete form until that moment - only hints. Welcome to the new era. Take a bow David Arnold.
I noticed that on my very first viewing. Just a masterclass of throwing a bit in here, a bit there, fade away. Then BAM, now I'm Bond, and so now I get the entirety of the theme. The score was absolutely brilliant
This movie was the Goldeneye, the Dr No, to Daniel Craig's Bond career. Somehow, the production came together to give us a defining chapter to kick off a new Bond era. And this movie's in my top 5 Bond flicks for good reason. The opening, the story, the acting and direction...so much of it was masterfully done.
Gotta say I’m really happy you two watched a good portion of the pre-Craig Bond films before this one. Most reactors seem to jump into Casino Royale. It’s a good movie but it does feel like other reactors miss out if they don’t watch the older films as well
Except for Jen Murray and Shan Watches Movies. Unfortunately Shan already seen all of Craig's Bond movies before he became a first time reactor to movies.
And they don't realise how the film makers slowly destroy the whole "Bondian" concept~not so much in the first one, which is brilliant, but certainly in the last 3 Craig Bond films.

@JesusStJamesDRI just watched the 5 minute Goldeneye chase scene. I admit any chase scene with a tank is awesome and that one doesn't disappoint. If you categorize running chase scenes and vehicle chase scenes separately, then both stand alone at co-number 1's
What you don’t realize is this is based off of Flemmings first novel Casino Royale, it’s also a very faithful modern adaptation that actually also expands the story well. Bond didn’t have the martini as his drink originally, it was instead what he ordered a brandy or whiskey usually on ice. He makes the Vesper martini of course and that becomes his drink of choice because he always feels the pain of losing her deep down, and he drowns those memories with that drink.
The best scene in this film, and my absolute favorite, isthe first meeting on the train. That conversation is just magnificent~the banter, the double entendres, the amazing use of language. I never tire of going back to it. "How was you lamb ? Skewered, one sympathises". So, so, so good !
Timothy Dalton was honestly the most underrated Bond. Sad that he only got two movies, but man, he gave us one hell of a Bond. Craig may have given us a gritty Bond, but Dalton was the most book accurate portrayal.
The Bond-messing-up stuff is one of the best grace notes of this movie. He's becoming the James Bond we know as the film goes on. Ford Focus to old Aston Martin to new Aston Martin. Fizzy drink to martini. Holding onto a sliver of humanity...and losing it by the end to no longer be a the blunt instrument and become "Bond, James Bond", the last words of the film, spoken for the first and only time just as the 007 fanfare finally blasts in full. A glorious tragedy in a way.
Sean Connery is by far my favorite Bond, but this film gathers the best things of the whole franchise in just one movie. The perfect balance between a great story, action, tension, twists and romance. The chemistry between Craig and Eva Green is absolutely perfect, Vesper is the best Bond girl of the franchise in my opinion. Casino Royale is elegant, charming, and has some of the best action scenes of the franchise. I also love the fact how they tease the Bond theme throughout the movie but only in the last seconds and after the classic line the song plays. Just an epic ending. PS: I know you guys are really excited to the next one, but don't be, seriously. It's one of the weakest films of the franchise due to several factors, the screenwriter strike being one of them...not to mention the HORRIBLE direction, mostly in the action scenes
Eva Green is a fantastic actress. I first noticed her in "Penny Dreadful" - some reviewer said of her performance "In this scene Eva Green carries on an entire conversation without saying a word", and I agree. She says more with just her eyes than most actress can say with a 10 page monologue.
@@playedout148 oh I do as well, just saying if I had to rank then, the one I know for sure is Connery for 1st. I don’t take anything away from the rest.

I had huge huge doubts about Daniel Craig being Bond. Especially after watching " Road to Perdition" 2002. To me, he's "hands down", my favorite Bond!!!
Pierce Brosnan was our 007 growing up...GoldenEye was a huge part of our lives including the video game. At first we were skeptical of a blond Bond. But Daniel Craig was a gamble that paid off. He took Bond to a darker place. Brilliant.
"M" stands for Missions and is the MI6 title used for whoever is in charge of assigning missions to agents. "Q" stands for Quartermaster and is the title of the person in charge of research, development, and allocation of secret field technologies. In the newer films it's suggested that "Moneypenny" is also a position/title of the person who is secretary to M and in charge of mission financials.
The book was published in 1953, and took place in Monaco, not Montenegro. They played baccarat. If they were going to play poker it would most likely be 5 card draw. Texas Hold 'Em was only known in Texas at the time. Personally I never even heard of Texas Hold 'Em until around 2000. But to most audiences now, it and blackjack are the only card gambling games they know, so they changed baccarat to Texas Hold 'Em.
@@daerdevvyl4314 I think Baccarat would confuse most audiences. The whole concept of player banker and drawing on less than 5 etc. Trying to explain in a film would add 10 minutes to a scene
This was an amazing bond film and Craig was brilliant. The stunt man at the beginning (look this up if I’m wrong) but he was the guy who basically invented parkour. He did his own stunts. Incredible.
The Chase sequence between Bond and the terrorist is absolutely superb and lasts a full 11 minutes all in Camera all done for real. The Guy playing the bomber is the worlds champion free runner which is why the whole sequence looks amazing.
There is a big IRRATIONALITY at 35:15 After being poisoned and nearly killed in the hotel, Bond has dinner and a drink in the same hotel where he had taken the poisonous drink. 🤔 Those two pages of the script should have been rewritten.
The villain is played by Mads Mikkleson who I think you saw in Rogue One. He played the heroine's father who designed the Death Star. Casino Royale was actually made back in the days of the first Bond films. Somehow another studio got the rights to it and made it with David Niven playing Bond and Woody Allen was in it. It was never taken seriously.
Mikkelson is also in, in my opinion, a very underrated film in King Arthur. Clive Owen, Mikkelson, Keira Knightley, and some others people would recognize
As a kid from the 90's, I grew up with Pierce Brosnan and Goldeneye being my favorite. But when I saw this for the first time, I was blown away. Casino Royale is, to this day, my favorite Bond film. Also, confusing the great Chris Cornell for Nickelback was one of the biggest sins I have witnessed on your channel, Cassie!
As a kid who grew up with pierce brosnan, I still say it’s a throw up between Connery and Brosnan as Bond for me. Daniel Craig was enjoyable as Bond, but I feel like there is just something about Connery and Brosnan that makes them more cold blooded killers than Craig, maybe it’s the tendency to give out one liners after a kill. It shows how numbed they are to the whole thing that they can make a joke about killing someone.
I didn't think I'd like Craig as Bond when I first saw him. He is now one of my favorites. The fact that all these movies tie into each other is awesome. It's one long, amazing story over 5 movies.
These Bond's is a reboot of sorts but if you saw the "original" series before this when watching these Bond's you'd notice lots of easter eggs referencing many scenes from the "original" series of movies. Makes it a treat for us who grew up with Bond from Connery to Brosnan. Awesome reaction ladies :)
Casino Royale is probably my favorite of the films (I grew up in the Moore era); an origin story done right. I also like the more serious tone of Craig's run; it's reminiscent of Timothy Dalton's approach to the character. Your reactions are great; keep 'em coming. :)
Most people had a similar response as you about Daniel Craig playing Bond . There was a huge backlash when he was cast with "not my Bond campaigns" online. The majority of it disappeared after it was released. Along with Dalton it's probably the closest to the original book character but Craig was a lot more fortunate to get for the most part good scripts.
Yeah, the world kind of exploded in rage when he was announced. And no one could see him being Bond. And then by the time that parkour chase wrapped up 99.999% of people were completely sold on Craig as Bond. He really, more than anyone else, just owned the role. It's also my favorite Bond song... it just feels so much more Bond than all of them. This movie was one of those rare everything you could dream of having in a film movies.
I remember seeing this at the theatre when I was a kid and it absolutely blew my mind. It was so different from the Pierce Brosnan ones but I really liked it.
Dear Cassie and Carly, I would highly recommend that you check out the movie that was a major influence on the entire bond series including Daniel Craig's Casino Royale. That movie is Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest released in 1959. That film set the style for the bond franchise ( especially the films of the sixties ), but it's influence is still felt today. It is required viewing for any Hitchcock enthusiast.
The actual location of the poker game is the gorgeous town of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. Amazing place (one of my favorite in the world) and it hosts one of the best and most prestigious film festivals in the world every July: The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Vesper Lynd has to be one of the most drop-dead sexy characters of all time, so this film has something for everyone. Incidentally, the next one picks up maybe five whole minutes after this one ends, so the ride doesn't end here.
The bombmaker at the construction site was played by Sébastien Foucan, a noted freerunner who helped develop parkour. So yes he did his own stunts, because his ability to do his own stunts is one of the reasons he was hired. I don't know if Craig did his own stunts but I doubt that the insurance company would allow it.
@@hankson8 Keeping in mind that something as simple as falling over is considered a stunt, I don’t doubt it. I do doubt, however, that Craig jumped from one construction crane to another.

I love Casino Royale as it’s my favorite bond movie alongside Skyfall😆🔥. I really enjoyed watching it with you guys. I loved the action sequences in this film, especially the opening chase scene and the plane scene👍. Daniel Craig did a great job playing bond as it’s one of his most iconic roles. They weren't making a dig on the martini thing. This is early in Bond's career. He just got 00 status and hasn't developed the preference for the shaken martini yet. The one he ordered in this film but didn't care how it was made...I like to think the bartender chose shaken and Bond probably enjoyed it, thus him remembering that detail for his future drinks. The previous Bond films jumped around throughout his career as to where Casino Royale is canon as the first introduction of him in the book series.
This one is essentially a reboot, an _origin_ story ("See how James became Bond" was one of the taglines), something which none of the previous ones ever even touched upon, as that Bond was always the seasoned professional from the get go. As a result, he's rougher around the edges, makes plenty mistakes and many of the Bond staples simply aren't there yet. Admittedly the writing does fall into the 'hammer-it-in' trap at times ("Do I look like I give a damn!"), but still people complained about the lack of these things as if they just didn't get this new approach, so clearly it needed stating quite firmly.
The next movie is called Quantum of Solace, which means a small amount of comfort. After losing the woman he loves, Bond is looking for something to make him feel a tiny bit better.
Cassie: Bond’s romantic?? He’s quitting?? He can’t quit there’s still 4 more to go! Canada, US, this woman’s a national treasure. Protect her with everything you’ve got! 😂❤️
This was Bond's first mission, and THE even that shapes him into the Bond we know and love. It's basically a reboot and a prequel at the same time and helps the viewer understand why Bond is the way he is.
The person singing the intro theme is Chris Cornell, frontman for Soundgarden. One of the three original grunge bands along with Nirvana and Pearl Jam.
Although I love the older Bond films, I feel like Daniel Craig is the perfect embodiment of the character. I always thought that the other Bonds were too "pretty boy" in nature and lacked the thuggish (no judgement) side required to actually battle with the world's worst criminals. Craig's Bond is an absolute beast who can also move comfortably in polite society, and in my mind, this is how a real spy would have to operate.
@@dmp1520 The earlier films were adaptions of the books, but out of order, with scenes from other books being shuffled around, but with Bond's personality being halfway close to his book personality.

"Bond's romantic!?" One of the best moments of all the story of the channel XD. And yeah, we can say so from the two versions: the Daniel Craig run and the classic interpretations. It's just that, depending on the story, it's more prominent or not (when faced with action and comedy).

Casino Royale is AMAZING!!! I've seen it so many times and there's always something new to appreciate on each viewing! Martin Campbell, the director, doesn't get enough credit!
It's sad the same couldn't be said for Green Lantern
Martin Campbell rebooted the franchise twice with two of the best entries in the franchise.
Than you. Was trying to remember who did the opening...
The last of the great Bond themes in my opinion.
Not only was this a fantastic movie, but it was also a really great adaptation of the original book. (Casino Royale was the very first James Bond novel, so it was a perfect place to reboot the franchise.)
improves the novel in many respects too
This is an adaptation of the first Bond novel, and despite the story being moved over 50 years into the future, it actually follows the story of the novel pretty closely. The first half is original to the film, but once Bond arrives in Montenegro it is a surprisingly faithful adaptation.
Adaptation.
@@DeltaAssaultGaming thanks. It actually drives me crazy when people say “adaption” so I’m not sure why I spelled it that way. Just a typo probably.
im not sure..didnt vesper kill herself in the novel? maybe im wrong tho
Serious question for you as I knew one, are you a psychologist or in the field of diagnosing behavior problems?
"She gets a text, Bond realizes that Mathis is a traitor," No. Vesper sets up Mathis as the traitor and Bond is too close to Vesper to realize it. "Your friend Mathis is actually my friend Mathis." We don't get confirmation about this until Quantum of Solace.

The opening chase is the greatest Bond chase scene ever. IMO
I think it holds its own vs any action sequence, quite honestly.

Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig are my favorite Bonds. This particular film is just great all around. Very well done.
I totally agree. But Casino Royale is a great stand alone movie, Bond or no Bond.
Yes, I agree
Timothy Dalton was honestly the most underrated Bond. Sad that he only got two movies, but man, he gave us one hell of a Bond. Craig may have given us a gritty Bond, but Dalton was the most book accurate portrayal.
The last scene signifies him becoming the finished article.
Very well stated. You've summed up my thoughts better than I could.

Casino Royale was what made me truly understand the art of poker. Thank you Daniel Craig.
The representation of poker is pretty stupid though. You only see him win with outrageous good hands

Daniel Craig insisted on doing most of his own stunts. In that grueling opening chase scene, he lost the tip of one of his fingers.

We enjoyed "Casino Royale" as well, but it's just slide of disappointment from here out (with Skyfall being pretty memorable).
Connery was my favorite era, but I loved they brought back the more serious style with Craig.
Vesper Lynd was the woman Bond truly loved.
@Lathspell Same.
I didn't think I'd like Craig as Bond when I first saw him. He is now one of my favorites. The fact that all these movies tie into each other is awesome. It's one long, amazing story over 5 movies.
I think the movies also are very high quallity which makes it overall good. Craig is good also.. but the movies boost him to a great level.
These Bond's is a reboot of sorts but if you saw the "original" series before this when watching these Bond's you'd notice lots of easter eggs referencing many scenes from the "original" series of movies. Makes it a treat for us who grew up with Bond from Connery to Brosnan.

The genius of the opening chase scene is that you know Bond will survive but you still believe he's in mortal danger
Great suggestion - and it's so cool that she takes your advice
The guy who was singing the theme in the intro was Chris Cornell lead singer of Soundgarden, Temple of the dog, and many other bands. He was a legend.
Actually Cassie, Dame Judi Dench was M in the Pierce Brosnan James Bond movies and continued into the Daniel Craig films also.

Funny, I always thought he is way too much of a brute and lacks fineness
No, he was in this film, then they got all political correct and the franchise went downhill, hell I read the books Authors kids, they told how the were going to take the character into a much darker place and lose the whimsical fir the most part. So, its not Bond. If I want to see a Bourne Identity movie I can just put one on.
Casino Royale was billed as a back to Fleming reboot with 21st century energy - and I think it achieves that.
I love how innocent you both are lol when he was geting his bits tickled 🤣
What happend to "Die Another Day" Pierce Brosnan last Bond Movie?
"Bond's romantic!?"
One of the best moments of all the story of the channel XD. And yeah, we can say so from the two versions: the Daniel Craig run and the classic interpretations. It's just that, depending on the story, it's more prominent or not (when faced with action and comedy).
Martin Campbell was great in directing Goldeneye and Casino Royale😃
This film had the best Bond entrance in my opinion.
The biggest conflict about this film was that Daniel Craig was the first blonde James Bond as the rest were dark hair.
This was actually the first Ian Fleming novel. He came up with the Vesper Martini in this novel.
Casino Royale is a cinematic masterpiece. This will stand the test of time as the greatest Bond film ever made… PERIOD. Daniel Craig will always be my favorite Bond.
First book. More thoughtfully constructed than the rest.
Yes yes!! One of my favorite Bonds! Please do the rest of the Craig bond versions. You will be glad you did.
Cassie and Carly together have such a fun dynamic. I feel like in this movie especially they really combined to understand the intricacies of the plot and to perceive the emotional core of the characters, and all while being super fun to watch. Truly one of the best reaction combos in the game!
Mads Mikklesen, who played Le Chiffre, also played Galen Erso, Jyn Erso's father in "Rogue One".
17:29 Richard Branson was standing at the airport scanner! lol how funny, never saw that before.
