I can't wait to experience it. Sometimes, a break is necessary. The society made it an absolute requirement to join college as soon as we complete our high school. Never knew i needed to hear that third advice so bad. When I was in my first year in college, I actually decided to drop out and started thinking I wanna experience working and earn money before I continue my studies. But my family, friends and relatives were always talking about me during reunions or hangouts. Like, "what a waste of your potential", "you could have better jobs". I know they're saying that for my own good but I want it when I'm ready for it and really wanted it not being forced. Now, I'm 25 and I decided to go back in college to earn my degree. This time, a bachelor course that I personally chose. Thank you Tiff!💕
Things I Wish I Knew Before College: - Make money. You should work to make money to do all of the things you think are fun when you aren't at work. A fulfilling career is a moving target and can make you feel restless and like you've made bad choices. Make the money and do the fun with that money. - Don't skip class. No matter how much you drank the night before, or how crummy you feel do NOT skip class. It takes longer to learn on your own than it does to learn it half awake and sort it out later. School is so expensive and if you divide up the cost amongst class hours you'll want to barf about spending money to skip class. - Drop out before you get into debt. Shit happens and sometimes you need to cut your losses and get into the workforce to dig out. You can always go back when you are financially stable again. Student loans should be a crime and the loans rack up interest so quickly. - College might not be what you need in life. Trades make a lot of money! Lenders shove it down you're throat that you have to have a degree to be worth anything in life. Most people don't even work in the field of their major
I’m gonna argue about the not skipping class thing, though I understand your point. I’m personally someone who skipped class quite a few times for mental health reasons, and I think that’s super fair. However, I’ve always been someone who learned really well from textbooks and is a very motivated student (I’m literally in a PhD program right now lol). If skipping a class is right for you, you should, but do try to ask for notes from friends or start studying quickly on your own. Or go to office hours to ask questions; when I’ve TAed and a student tells me they miss class, I’ll typically help them understand the material if OH aren’t busy (tho some tas/profs are rude so hopefully yours are nice!).
thank you for telling me this because i plan on going to college right after hs (currently in 11th grade), if anyone is in hs, dont worry if u dont have alot of friends or if ur not popular, just focus on school so u can graduate and if u want get into a good college, college is where u will meet different kinds of ppl, rather than high school where everyone is sort of growing up and maturing over time, so have fun and dont get into too much trouble
I wish I knew this before going to college😭... It's true meet a lot of people, make memories and enjoy the events that you can only enjoy in college, don't be shy to meet people and enjoy youth because that will be a memory to enjoy after you graduate I truly regret staying in my comfort zone in my college years
A tip that I wish someone told me: Failure is an option. If you fail one class because you didn’t have a good schedule, didn’t understand the work, or even procrastinated, you can drop the class and re-take it next semester, or, if it’s too late, you can retake the class next semester anyways. It will be okay. I wish someone had told me this because I had nervous breakdowns/panic attacks/anxiety attacks
#3 is an advice I gave to my friend's daughter who is 16 and added to it that college is a tool, doesn't matter if you go to an expensive one or a cheap one. If you don't know how to use it or apply it to your life it's just a waste of time and money which while money you can recover time is something you never get back once it gone.
I just enrolled in college yesterday and i need this so much right now. Thank you❤. For about half a year i was anxious and worried what major i have to choose because i thought i was not fit to study any subjects and plus i don't have interest in anything. I was also so stress about not being able to meet my friends anymore as some were in other states while some were not as the same major as me even though we enrolled in the same college but seeing this video gives me a lot of comfort and remind me that i can also make a lot of new friends while still in contact with my friends and also explore many things. Guess i will take one step at a time thank you again.
I wish I would have seen this video before I went to college. College overall was a very negative experience that I never got right and often find myself regretting. I hope everyone has a better experience than me. 🙏🏻
I had moved into my dorm on Monday and as I saw my mom leaving after helping me staying with me through the process my eyes got teary but it wasn’t till I saw the car driving away and I was alone that I had an emotional breakdown and cried …I’m socially anxious as well as suffer from depression so change is very hard for me
Something I wish I knew: get the dorm!! I wound up being homeless while in college and working 60+ hours a week ON TOP of a 14 hour school week. I was so exhausted. If I would've just got the dorm, I wouldn't have had to work so hard just to live. I was the first person in my family to go to college. I definitely should have asked for help when I had the opportunity. Now I have no degree and a butt load of debt because I flunked out of college.
Reason no. 2 stopped me from dropping out. First online semester was exhausting and I hated every bit of it but then i met a bunch of people after everything was on campus again. I joined a student association, plan and enjoy events and it's overall so much fun. :D
Omg I totally agree with all of this!!! My little brother wants to rush his classes and my sister and I are like NO! Take your time and get the feel of college life and don’t just take hardcore classes, take light classes to feel some ease. And good luck to your bro
ye I definitely agree with Tiffy myself. As a 3rd law student, all I’d done were learning, learning and learning. I put myself to death with academic and had no time enjoying myself or visiting my friend, I really do regret now. Today after a long time have’nt seen my bff, I came to her house, we were chit and chat, and when I talked about me being depressed lately, she just cried and cried and hold my hand. When we hugged each other, I realized many things I’d lost.
Totally agree with #1 to an extent. I’ve had friends change majors multiple time during undergraduate school, and they didn’t struggle with the requirement changes too bad unless it was a completely different ballgame (talking art history to microbiology). However, I think at a certain point in your academic career, you have to know what you want to do with your life and set up your academic goals accordingly. If you want to go to med school but waste 4 years of undergraduate ONLY exploring and partying with friends, you’re only wasting time and money.
this is actually really great tips and stuff as I’m a senior in HS and getting ready/planning on going college, going down the medical field. lots and lots of anxiety attacks and nervousness. but looking forward to it 🥹
I went to college right as the pandemic hit and I didn’t get a chance to finish but it made me realize I wasn’t ready. However it also taught me how valuable it is. It really has very little to do with the material unless you’re in a lab class, but as you said it’s more about the experience. To the point where employers pay for that experience. Also networking yourself, don’t just make a point to have friends but connect with teachers (SERIOUSLY) all those times your parents and adults told you to make friends with your teachers, they’re kinda right and college is the best possible place to do that. It’s not for bettering your grades but more for assistance after school with connections in a field of work, or if you want to go into masters courses. Somebody always knows somebody who has a guy who can get you where you want to be.
Thank you for saying this! You do not need to decide the rest of your life right now. You can go back to school at any time, I did at 30 a friend did at 60.
Those are three God damn amazing tips. I was worried after completing my bachelor's that what if I change my mind or my aspirations get crumbled and I know longer want to go on that field? Not to mention the pressure as an Asian American I've always been put under pressure from my parents to graduate ASAP for some reason. Whenever I had financial challenges I wouldn't go full time or be done in the expected time. I had a 2-3 year gap between my AA and BS and my BS took an extra year and a half and when I was done the sensation/self appreciation wasn't my greatest because I felt like I took too long or was slacking off. I dunno, I'm in a bit of a better place now but the feel of finishing school wasn't the best. Don't let others tell you otherwise how you should l pace your academic journey. It's yours and only yours.
I wish I knew this before going to college now it's been 2 years that I'm done with my college!! The first thing is so true like I was a medical student back in college and was always stressing about my studies and all and now I'm a LLB student which makes no sense like there's a huge difference between medical and law Fields!!!
Sophomore in college here, and boy, your advice is timely and relevant. I needed to hear those words right now cause I'm currently struggling in a major. I'm so grateful for your channel tiffycooks!! Thank you so much 🙏😭
I am watching this vid only a few hours after i got my test results back and i got notified that i fell my 2nd year in college. This video made me feel a bit better about my situation.
Not going to college right after high school is a luxury and is something I wish I could do since I need to quickly enter a university, get a degree, and find a job afterwards to support my family. Also, with all the pressure and seeing that my peers enter different well known universities is just depressing...
Good for you to say . For me it was a struggle because I was poor, starving and hungry 99 % of the time . I managed to do great being motivated. I made sure my son never had to experience the same and he succeeded with his choice going on to advance studies . I feel bad for hungry students.
The last one is comforting for me rn, i am in a gap year bcuz i didn't make it to the uni i wanted to and I didn't wanna go anywhere else so i feel like a failure but ig it's okay, I'll make it soon enough hopefully
I wish #3 was something I could have done. I asked my parents to let me take like a year off before going to school. I was struggling so much mentally. I just needed a break. They straight up refused. I spent the never 2 years crying myself to sleep every night and also calling them to cry to them about how miserable I was. I flunked almost all my classes. My GPA was shit. After the 2 years I took the 1 year break I really needed, got therapy, saved up money and then moved out and went to a different college of my choice. The school ended up being the best choice I could have made. And i flourished. GPA recovered immediately. I hope you guys get a better experience and don't have to go thru what I did in the beginning. Good luck! 💖💖💖💖
I have almost finished high school and I am planning to go to college somewhere in 2023 or 2024. So these points really help. And now I am going to start college after a good break and relaxation. Doing the stuff I want and when I am ready then I'll go. And I'm going to try and make lots of new friends and do lots of new stuff ☺️
Also: you don’t have to go to a traditional college, tech/trade schools are great options and way cheaper / less time , One year getting my LPN and I started making more money than my sister who graduated traditionally at a 4 year school, I have no debt either compared to her
I'm studying but I feel like I'm not enjoying my student life to the fullest bc of my mental health issues that I'm dealing with atm. Also covid didn't help. But I'm trying to not put too much pressure on myself with the whole "YOUR COLLEGE TIME SHOULD BE WILD AND AMAZING".
This is very helpful for me thanks! I'm thinking on going to college when I finished senior high and I was feeling Abit nervous(eventhough its still a long time hehe :)) but after watching this made me feel better about going to college!
This is so true. I studied and did not enjoy my time in college. now, i am in my 40. this is now i am enjoying my time, traveling, meeting people, hanging out with friends. so i like my single life and it is all about me right now.
Honestly what you said in point 1 is true. I just started college and I was really worried about my future career options but now halfway through my 1st sem, I realized that's not the case and I've actually seen a lot of opportunities open up compared to before.
im choosing bio for med school but honestly im still young and I feel like I might change my mind if it proves to be too difficult I don't have any college frnds to ask this so can i change my major from bio to business? since they're completely diff things yk
Go when you are ready is the best advice(doesn’t mean you have to go). I went and stopped after an associates degree and now I’m a licensed electrician. Whatever your degree is or career. If you want to succeed you are going to have to work hard
@@tiffyycooks College definitely got ups and downs, one of my mistake is that I joined more than 5 friend circles, too many friends make me develop identity problems
That’s exactly what i told one of my friends when we both got accepted but he got second thoughts about his major , thank u so much and i’m REALLY excited for my college experience
Also another tip if you find yourself not being able to choose between a few different majors just pick one and go for it if you don't like it you can always back out and try another one and you'll find what you love. Just don't spend too much time trying to decide. Go for it. You'll never know if you like it unless you try.
i felt bad for taking a gap year because everyone of my friends are going into college but im so not mentally prepared and i might lose my mind if i go. but this made me feel assured about my decision :)
i’m so glad i haven’t gone yet! bc there’s so many career paths to take and now that i’m a bit older and have traveled a bit i know a lot more about myself
Thank you so much for this video! I'm also going to start university in a few weeks' time and I definitely feel more ready and excited after taking a gap year. I also can't wait to start cooking so many of your recipes while I'm in my halls of residence! 😆
I wasn't ready, but people with expectations forced me to, even went as far as paying for my tuition. My first year I was soo lost, wasn't sure what I wanted to do even though I had psychology at the back burner of my mind. Didn't get to do it the first year and instead did biology together with English, I honestly felt like I was wasting their money although I was doing good in my classes and the stress/depression was eating me away. This year however, I've finally built up the courage to drop bio and psychology is finally available so I'm doing it and the joy I felt when I spoke to my advisor and he told me I'll be able to do it! Now I feel like I have a purpose even though I would have to spend an extra year to complete the course.
I agree with this to an extent. I think it’s better to wait if you really don’t know what major you’re going into because it cost a lot of money to flip-flop back-and-forth into different programs. I also got in shit got dropping out of uni because my parents are immigrants and thought that was the only way to kind of excel in life. And then I ended up going into college for nursing which made them happy only to get pregnant with my daughter. And because I couldn’t really work because there’s no one to take care of my daughter and then Cove it hurts… I felt like I was never going to go back to school. Because my goal was to start when she was in grade one because that’s when my mom had decided to retire. But in the end I ended up through my dad and his coworkers fine guard of a power engineering program in a trade school - which makes triple the money that a nurse would make, a practical nurse, and so I’m in that now and I already finished the fourth class after eight months and I’m returning to do the third class of power engineering which will be a starting salary of $150,000 Canadian. And as a female I have a better chance of getting a job because they are lacking in women in this field. Even though it’s not my dream job it’ll ensure that my daughter and I are financially stable. It’ll allow for us to go on vacations and do amazing things. It’ll give us a financial flexibility that we’ve always wanted and needed. And I’ll be able to do it at a very young age. So my thing is sometimes it’s better to just wait but always tell yourself that you will go once you find your passion and you have to keep telling yourself that. Because people thought that I would never go back after university and then they thought I would never go back after my daughter and then when I finally went back they shut the f’up
I was really stressed about college and all . I am actually dropper for 3 yrs , now i was kinda scared how people , student will look at me. It's not like i can't face it , it's just i hate when they'll talk me being older than them , being weird and straightforward and honest person. This short really make me feel good. Thank you so much. Stay healthy and happy Mam 💜😊
Another thing to note from the last one is that you don’t have to go straight to university. Community colleges can be a great way to not only discover what you want to do but you can do a lot of prerequisites for your major there for a lot less money than at a university. In addition depending on a combination of grades, scholarships, or state grants you could potentially go to community college for free and only worry about books, this can help save you money and some community colleges might have what you want to major in. :)
Oh man how I wish I have seen this 4 years ago I made a mistake that cost me a lot of time and money but I agree 💯% I even realize that I don’t have to go to college or university everyone has different paths in life hope everyone stays healthy and happy 😊
In my country, college is all about getting ready for a career. In most cases, there are student loans to take care of and particularly those going for technical or management degrees mostly stay focused on getting a job.
For me, college is about getting the degree and getting out! I take all my classes asynchronous from home while also working full time. I’m halfway there and I’ll soon be free!😂
Thank you this helps a lot as someone that has passed high school few months I just realised how bad my mental health has gotten to the point of turmoil so I decided to take a gap year and would join it next year around I have been second guessing myself about that as my mom and sister have been telling me I'll be wasting a year and would be old to join but this helped a lot

You Gave Great Advice!! Thanks For Sharing.
Things I Wish I Knew Before College:
- Make money.
Or go to office hours to ask questions; when I’ve TAed and a student tells me they miss class, I’ll typically help them understand the material if OH aren’t busy (tho some tas/profs are rude so hopefully yours are nice!).
wish i understood your tip about going to college when you're actually ready, its so important!!
thank you for telling me this because i plan on going to college right after hs (currently in 11th grade), if anyone is in hs, dont worry if u dont have alot of friends or if ur not popular, just focus on school so u can graduate and if u want get into a good college, college is where u will meet different kinds of ppl, rather than high school where everyone is sort of growing up and maturing over time, so have fun and dont get into too much trouble
I wish I knew this before going to college😭... It's true meet a lot of people, make memories and enjoy the events that you can only enjoy in college, don't be shy to meet people and enjoy youth because that will be a memory to enjoy after you graduate
I truly regret staying in my comfort zone in my college years
A tip that I wish someone told me: Failure is an option.
Based on this advice she’s giving me “I expect other people to pay my loans off, because why do I have to?” Vibes
What i only learned about college is how to be immortal, literally having 5 hours of sleep in 3 days is normal
Networking will take you far!
I wish I would have seen this video before I went to college. College overall was a very negative experience that I never got right and often find myself regretting. I hope everyone has a better experience than me. 🙏🏻
Not just experience but also networking! You'll never know how someone can help you into a job later on 👍🏼
I had moved into my dorm on Monday and as I saw my mom leaving after helping me staying with me through the process my eyes got teary but it wasn’t till I saw the car driving away and I was alone that I had an emotional breakdown and cried …I’m socially anxious as well as suffer from depression so change is very hard for me
this makes me excited to go to college
Best Advice I ever heard..truly! I am very nervous as its last year and ur's Advice is helping me! Thankyouu Tiffy!💗💫🥺🐣
Wow "you don't have to go to college right after highschool" the words that I don't know I rlly need. Thankyou
Omg I totally agree with all of this!!! My little brother wants to rush his classes and my sister and I are like NO! Take your time and get the feel of college life and don’t just take hardcore classes, take light classes to feel some ease. And good luck to your bro
As someone having regrets for having the worst time in college, sees it with a new perspective now.
Thank You!
You’re such a positive person tiff I wish I could know you before college 🥲
ye I definitely agree with Tiffy myself.
This makes me cry😭
this is actually really great tips and stuff as I’m a senior in HS and getting ready/planning on going college, going down the medical field. lots and lots of anxiety attacks and nervousness. but looking forward to it 🥹
So True..., Loved her Advice and That Creamy Tuna Onigiri, Look..., at..., That! :)
Love your advice so much. You are such a wonderful person and best chef
The last line tho! Everything in your life esp formal education is just framework, the worthiness depends on what you make of it
You are on point! I wasted money and time, seriously.
Good for you to say . For me it was a struggle because I was poor, starving and hungry 99 % of the time . I managed to do great being motivated. I made sure my son never had to experience the same and he succeeded with his choice going on to advance studies . I feel bad for hungry students.
Community college is definitely not talked about enough, at least my high school didn't, but going to CC is one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Last advice is lit❤❤❤
I think it's important to not rush yourself! Don't get caught up with how fast people are excelling or going ahead of you.
He’s definitely going to remember that “the finger method always works” 😭🤣❤️
The last one is comforting for me rn, i am in a gap year bcuz i didn't make it to the uni i wanted to and I didn't wanna go anywhere else so i feel like a failure but ig it's okay, I'll make it soon enough hopefully
I failed yr 12 a week ago🥴 but I wish the best of luck to those who passed and now go onto college🍾🥳.
Also: you don’t have to go to a traditional college, tech/trade schools are great options and way cheaper / less time , One year getting my LPN and I started making more money than my sister who graduated traditionally at a 4 year school, I have no debt either compared to her
This was actually very helpful because I’m going to college in a week
omg this came to me right when i was anxious about college (tomorrow will be my very first day) and idk i think i just wanna thank you :>
Thank you for your soothing words❤
Thank you so much for sharing! Lifted some burden on my shoulders
Great advice , you ace it ✊🏻👊🏻🌷
I'm studying but I feel like I'm not enjoying my student life to the fullest bc of my mental health issues that I'm dealing with atm.
Needed to hear that last one. Thanks aunty Tiff.
Hi girl just wanted to say to anyone that need it God loves you so much and has never stopped loving y’all ❤️
I can’t even beat that drawing lol
Go when you are ready is the best advice(doesn’t mean you have to go). I went and stopped after an associates degree and now I’m a licensed electrician. Whatever your degree is or career. If you want to succeed you are going to have to work hard
Currently in the 3rd semester rn and I'm crying shitting suffering vomiting combusting
SO SORRY, you got this!! theres alot of resources at school, talk to someone, you will feel better
@@tiffyycooks College definitely got ups and downs, one of my mistake is that I joined more than 5 friend circles, too many friends make me develop identity problems
I’m in middle school rn but I will DEFINITELY be taking this advice
That’s exactly what i told one of my friends when we both got accepted but he got second thoughts about his major , thank u so much and i’m REALLY excited for my college experience
College for me is about writing reports , reading papers , skipping few classes , eat and explore . Randomly walk around exploring foods and streets
Also another tip if you find yourself not being able to choose between a few different majors just pick one and go for it if you don't like it you can always back out and try another one and you'll find what you love. Just don't spend too much time trying to decide. Go for it. You'll never know if you like it unless you try.
The food looked so delicious 😋
i felt bad for taking a gap year because everyone of my friends are going into college but im so not mentally prepared and i might lose my mind if i go. but this made me feel assured about my decision :)
Ah man, wish I had this video when I was 18 😅 still appreciate it though 💜
Wholesome cooking vid, wholesome advice with such true words 🥰🥰 this was so good!
i’m so glad i haven’t gone yet! bc there’s so many career paths to take and now that i’m a bit older and have traveled a bit i know a lot more about myself
Ooooo Thankyou so much I needed this right now 😍🤗
The finger method… definitely helps in college 😂
Thank you so much for this video! I'm also going to start university in a few weeks' time and I definitely feel more ready and excited after taking a gap year. I also can't wait to start cooking so many of your recipes while I'm in my halls of residence! 😆
u made me feel better as someone who has been stressing abt college
That looks soooo good!
You are the BEST,
I needed this
Another thing to note from the last one is that you don’t have to go straight to university.
I wish I get to hear this before I went to college;;;
but what's done is done.
I wish I knew this earlier. Learned it in a hard way
I love seaweed & I too am going back to school soon . After being out of school for quiet some time now .
