- Off the West Cost of Africa, about 5 hours from our base in the UK, lies the tiny Archipelago nation of Cape Verde, one of Europe's last hidden diving gems.
Very few people visit Cape Verde every year, and even fewer dive while there. But dive under the waves, and the curious diver will find an amazing abundance of marine life not commonly associated with the temperate Atlantic waters.
Big, reef and macro are all present with pelagic like Sand Tiger Sharks, Nurse Sharks and Manta rays being common sightings. The reef is reminiscent of something out of Asia with gorgeous Butterfly Fish, Angel Fish, Parrot and Damsel Fish all calling the local sites their home. For those with a keen eye, Dragon Moray, Arrow Crabs, and an abundance of Nudi Branchs are waiting to be discovered.
Even for seasoned divers like ourselves, we can highly recommend Cape Verde as a dive spot.

While diving for some years in Cabo Verde I had already met most specimens you are showing in you great video. In the other islands of SVicente and Santiago (Tarrafal and Cidade Velha) in Cape Verde they also abound the same specimens.

I freaking love your Amberjack challanges Josh. Beeing a sport fishing guide in Sweden I cant really relate to the strength in these salt water fishes but I would do anything in the world to experience it since It's been a dream of mine for ages.

how deep did you go? Im going in a few weeks and my travel insurance only covers diving above 18m and with professional staff, am I good to go?
Sorry for the slow response. So the diving in Cape Verde is mostly around the 18 metre mark, so you should be ok :)
How much did you pay and can you recommend a reliable school as I want to do some diving next month while on holiday in Boavista?
there aren't that many dive schools from what I have seen, but we were diving with Scuba Caribe, who are located just in front of Riu Karamboa. Pretty well run operation. Ask for a dive guide called Derry, and tell them Nico from Real Freedom Productions sent you. They'll take care of you :)

no, although Sandtiger sharks (aka Ragged Tooth Sharks) look dangerous with those crazy rows of teeth, they are completely harmless and there has never been a recorded attack on a human.
