I hope you and the Team have a Merry Christmas and some time to relax in the new year and enjoy the sunshine that I'm sure you are organising for us 😉😃.
We appear to be getting a reasonable amount of rain just now in Christchurch and it's quite nice after the dry around Canterbury and very hot temperatures. Looks like an interesting week for the country over the next 6 or 7 days. Be careful if you are swimming in the ⛵ sea! Thank you Phil and team.
That southerly felt surprisingly mild today once the rain cleared in the morning, bit colder higher up of course. Getting a bit cool tonight dropping to around 5 degrees. 🥶 great day for some exercise.
@ The ocean temperatures take longer to warm and it can be quite variable in December. Then autumn starts 1st March and it’s still quite warm then. It’s easier to stick with the equinoxes and solstices because it relies on a true definition instead of how it feels.
Yes summer doesn't start until after the longest day. But it's really weird that there are so many big storms in the southern ocean at this time of the year. I wouldn't be surprised if the autumn starts early in 2025.
My mate and I called off our week long hunting and fishing this week we had planned for the last mth. We ssn what was coming up the coast.arhh well ,always another time.
Hi, Im planning some bike touring around the Queenstown area in early March. Is the weather stable at that time or is it still a lottery? 😂 Cheers and have a great xmas.
Takes the stress out of watering the garden, thank you for your work.

🎉 Love your work, nice mention of the yachties battling the Southern Ocean
Thanks, Phil. I wish you and your team a wonderful Christmas. See you in the New Year.
Loved you mentioned the Vendée Globe race. Fantastic weather forecaster.
Beautifully cool in Christchurch and with a sort of mizzle, half mist some drizzle. Thank you for the update.
Good to see you😊 Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

Throwing it down in Timaru since lunchtime. It's great for the garden, tho. I don't have to do that today....😊
Nice to be back in NZ I haven’t seen real rain for 6 months coming back from Qld
Cheers Phil,
Merry Christmas.
After all this time it still pains me to hear people say the first day of summer is 1st December. Get on board people it’s the summer solstice!
December is typically warm though. Even November is warmer than some typical spring

Merry Christmas 🎉 Love Luke
Rainy and cold in central Otago

Totally with you on the ideal weatherfor Christmas. In fact, if you could arrange some snow for Whanganui, that would be perfectt!
I'll do my best!! :)

Yay. Hate this heat.
There’s been thunderstorms in nslon tonight when will there might be another chance ? And strong south easterly winds
Hard to say sorry, keep an eye on the thunderstorm outlooks.

It's always a lottery around Queenstown in March, but fingers crossed we're still in a summer pattern and it's settled (but not too hot for biking!)
Hikutaia 40 mls as of 2-30pm
Why is Nelson getting hit with an atmosphere river at the moment at 9 o’clock at night
For real
@ none of this weather was forecast, and it was pretty interesting to watch it form
You got the southerly meeting the hotter airflow further north - producing thundery showers which are slow moving and intense.
Next update 19//12/24

Wow summer starts astronomically this weekend means the New Year really is in April, According to the Geneva Bible not the King James Version Bible.
Thank our Goggle Gods that Santa does not have to come from Antarctica during the next two weeks
