Interesting.. i googled La Mer and apparently a British newspaper had a reporter do her face with one side Nivea and one side La Mer and the Nivea won hands down.
@Laurajaneatelier was always interested in LA mer, but thought it was marketing. What is the German brand of nivia you mentioned???? Want to try it. Thanks.
I think it’s important to remember that all the celebs using this, also take part in many other skin care procedures, like Botox, chemical peels, facials, and even more. None of them can honestly claim their results are from La Mer.
I have been a skincare junkie for over 20 years now and have tried them all. I was devoted to La Mer from my mid-20s to early 30s and then did a bunch of research and decided to try some of the similar formulas (ie German Nivea, etc.). I’ve since tried a whole bunch of creams from high to low, Korean ingredients to other brands with crazy claims. I’ve recently began dabbling in la mer again occasionally, now that I’m 40, and I really do notice a difference in my skin when I use it. I’m almost disappointed to have observed that, but FOR ME it is true. I do find the original crème de la mer to be the hero product of the line, and I also swear by the lip balm.
I have used this moisturiser for years and when I stop using it I notice a significant difference in my skin. I adore this moisturiser I have dry dehydrated skin and this is a holy grail for me ❤
I remember when La Mer came on the market back in the early 90s. I have oily skin, so I wasn’t interested. But, my dry skin friend was obsessed with purchasing a jar, so we went to Saks for her to purchase it. I remember the counter person was friendly and gave me a few sample packets. It felt luxurious - but that may have been the psychological side effect of using an expensive product 😂
@@Laurajaneatelier I use CeraVe. It’s got everything I need in a cream and it’s inexpensive. I used to use those $400 moisturizers years ago, until a heat rash and allergic reaction cured me from it 😂 Trust me, they’re mostly hype. If you go to a department store that sells La Mer, just ask for a sample 😉
I tried it years ago, when I worked at an expensive department store. The sales associate said it was supposed to be a miracle cream for all skin types. She gave me a sample that was the size of an eye cream. I had oily breakout prone skin. It gave me the worst cystic acne on my chin the next day. I never used it again.
I used La Mer in my late 20s and it did nothing magical bcuz my skin was perfect. Still is now at 40 but thats bcuz of 20 years of tretinoin. Now my sweet gramma used La Mer and raved about it. What she always forgot to mention was she had 2 face lifts, a neck lift, CO2 laser and her eyes done.... twice lol
I used La Mer for 18 months. I wanted to really give it a chance to work but I really don’t believe it did anything for me. It helped sunburn once that’s it.
i worked at Nordstrom and would come in to work with a freshly-washed face so that I could apply whatever creams and makeup i wanted, La Mer was one I used a lot and it treated me no better than coconut oil and cerave. however, i loved the exclusivity of it.
I got several mini jars of La Mer original cream from the kind lady seller at the Munich airport Duty-free when I was purchasing some other skincare brand. I asked her if she would give me a few La Mer samples as I wanted to check all the hype, and she gave away more than a few :) It was winter, and the cream was soothing and moisturizing, Little goes along the way, and I still have some little samples left. I have sensitive skin and didn't have any breakouts. Obviously, the cream is good, but the price is too much....airports seem to be good places with free samples.
I totally believe it is just a dupe of Nivea. Atleast Nivea cream has a solid backstory that might be excerpted by the LaMer Brand's Corporation. And that the miracle broth is just an enhanced version of it with Sea-Kelp extract. Who knows? 😅
Interesting video, especially the part about the blending of the occult and scientific research. It seems like this is more common than we realize. Thanks, Laura.
After years of Ler Mer I switched to German made Nivea( original formula) My skin actually looks better using Nivea cream. After it sinks in your skin is luminous...wait 1-2 hours after application to see this effect ❤
Have you heard of a skin care called Elizabeth Grant? She tells almost the same story of how she started her company! Badly burned and sea kelp etc… interesting that it’s so similar
Okay so now we have the blueprint. Step 1) Create a backstory that evokes sympathy Step 2) Create a skin cream with sea kelp ( we'll throw in some aloe and sunflower for good measure) Step 3) Put the aforementioned cream in tiny jars and sell it for $200. You're welcome😉
I got a deluxe sample of this from Sephora with some points and it is honestly the same consistency of Nivea and I found it made my skin breakout. And I’m mature at 54. I do believe some of their products are amazing (albeit overpriced) such as their foundation. But there are other amazing luxury brands that make cosmetics that are still less priced.
Nah, tried it, but it's no better than Nivea. I've been professionally involved in (french) pharmacy skincare for years. Ingredients are very similar, and the "miracle broth" is nowhere disclosed and the quantity is unknown. So can't be mesured on how much effect it has on the skin. It's for women who want to believe in the marketing system, if you believe, then you will see.
I have tried it. It is NOT worth it. Clogs pores like mad. Overpriced and over hyped. There are numerous better choices at better prices. Fresh, Ole Henriksen, It Cosmetics, and even cheapies like Cera Ve and Olay are far better. I know you like Avon and their Daily Multipurpose cream is far superior, one of my all time favorites, better than the A New line imo. Don't believe the La Mer hype.
I must say that for YEARS i was so skeptical of creme de la mer. tried it like 15-20 years ago and thought it was a bunch of bulls*it. i have tried THOSANDS of products along the years.... Hundreds of different brands from ultra luxery to drugstore to dermo brands to k-beauty to indie brands. last years i gave it a shot again and started with a small pot. i feel in love and i hate the fact that i actually love how it makes my skin look and how people comment on my skin. i UNDERSTAND it has supposedly a very basic formula and yet i cannot explain it but it WORKS better then anything else i have used in my life (besides retin-a and exfoliating acids).
Great video Laura! Very interesting, I did not know this info about LaMer. As much as I hate to go down the Rabbit Hole: When you see some of these celebrities who are pushing 80 and don't have one single wrinkle in their face.....kinda makes you wonder what is actually in or behind some of the super high end stuff they use.... Is it a coincidence there were so many early/mid-century Hollywood films (say 1930s-1960s) which depicted "strange experiments" used to return older characters to full youth and beauty.....?????😬😯🧐
Nicest product I ever used was Lush's Gorgeous. Second was Derma E CBD Redness Relief set. I have several skin issues and this product worked so of course they stopped making it. 😢
When I tried this I did not notice much difference. It just made my skin feel sticky because it's so emollient. After the the jar I bought ran out I didmnt buy another. I used it about 3 months.
I had LaMer gifted to me and I used it while it lasted in a jar. It is very similar to Nivea. The packaging is very basic too- I really do not get the allure of it. It does not look like 1k cream on my bathroom counter either. It is just a basic white jar. It is honestly an embarrassment for the money that they are asking for it. La Prairie has better presentation. Nivea original cream is the all-time winner for me. I have a dry skin and it is my secret pleasure to take it out from the cooler and smear it all over my face in thick layer like clown make up before going to bed. 😂
I've never tried it but some friends have. If Estee Lauder Lauder brought it they may have corrected any problems. MRS. Lauder would not put the company at risk
La Mer is ridiculous. I'm sorry. I don't think there's any science behind their effectiveness. I recently saw a RUclips video of some skin care serums that are very costly, but they have a very high peptide count - the RUclipsr explained why she looks at products like that. I doubt I'd ever buy however. She did share much more reasonably priced items too.
You can get the original Nivea from Germany from a store in Chicago called Smallflower / Merz Apothecary (also online.) I bought some but I've never used it on my face because it looks so thick. I'll give it a try.
They gave me a free sample size jar of the cream one time . While it’s a very nice cream I wouldn’t want to spend that kinda money. Better to find an alternative

@@Laurajaneatelier absolutely correct. The key is to press it between your fingers to sort of warm it up and then press it into your skin.
