I think the hole is there to prevent the item exploding whilst its fired. If there is air within a clay/ceramic object when it is put under extreme heat the air expands and BOOM
You are correct! It is to stop air pressure building up inside the piece and exploding which would ruin the piece as well as other pieces in the kiln. You may also see the bottoms of ceramic pieces not painted because the glaze would stick to the kiln if painted and you would have to break it off. You’re welcome for information you didn’t ask for 😂
I absolutely LOVE the YT play button! I not even joking I would not think to put anything on it to add to it! The paint blobs bring it to life! Looks so good!!!❤
Hi Bellamena, I saw something on Pinterest the other day and instantly thought of you and your baby. Basically what it was are these memory bears that you make out of your baby's old clothes when they get too big for them. I know you've done that kind of thing on the channel before so I just thought I'd suggest it.
The hole is from slip casting. They pour liquid clay into the mould, let it sit awhile, the ceramic mould will absorb some water, then pour out the excess slip, leaving a clay shell.
I thought the hole was for dipping into glaze without fingerprints, but thank you all for teaching me about the explosion thing. I just love learning! ❤
Oh that's a cute play button! I like it! I agree I really like the liquitex varnish as well. They make great products! I've always heard an artist is a person who makes art 🤷♀️ so if you make art at all, not matter what it is, then you're an artist. So even though it feels very strange I do call myself an artist. Imposter syndrome does kick in though and I always have to like clarify my level of knowledge 🤣🤣
i know this is pretty simple, but i think this might be one of my favorite pieces you've made. it's just so perfect for your channel, and it's really beautifully done! great job marissa :)
Hi, I love your videos. Ceramics have to be hollow otherwise they will explode in the kiln so that is why they have to have holes in them. Hope that helps x
I like the play button you created. It will look nice in your background. When I seen the shape I automatically thought how cool would it be to make a Crayola crayon box maybe you can do another one for your background if you like that idea
It's their 'dollar tree plus' section, where some items are 3 and 5 dollars. Certain stores have this section and some don't. The one I work at doesn't. Gonna have to look out for these in the DTs in my area. Loved the play button. ❤
I DO know why they have a hole. If you put a hollow piece of clay in a kiln without any hole for the heat to circulate the piece can potentially explode do to the heat and pressure. At least that's what my art teacher once told me.
The hole in the ceramics is to make sure it doesn't have any trapped air when put into the kiln. When I was in junior high, and we were doing ceramics one day in art, someone left a bubble in their sculpture and it exploded in the kiln and basically destroyed most of the other sculptures in the kiln, and any that survived were damaged. My project did not survive sadly. I was very proud of that sculpture.... And gesso is meant to be used as a primer to make almost anything a paintable surface(according to a gesso ad I saw just the other day)
The hole in ceramic pieces is for air to escape during the firing process so it isn’t trapped and makes the piece explode. I am annoyed by how big they are sometimes. It’s like they’re asking for an animal/insect to call it home.
Heyy. I love the outcome but I think it would have looked a bit cooler if the blobs would have overlapped. And also some small specs would have been cute. But thats just my opinion - as i said: cute outcome🩷
the hole at the bottom of some ceramics is to let the air out while they bake in a kiln, this is to prevent them from exploding. I have witnessed this happening with very expensive results.
I love your spin on the play button. I hate being a butt, my only complaint I have is the shakey effect when you were showing off each paint you were using for the blobs. I didn't realize until too late that it was triggering my epilepsy and I feel motion sickness. I thought it was a bit much for every 5 seconds. That's just me though i'm sorry!

I love the dollar tree plus section. It is kinda like five below but it has some interesting items. I almost bought a lightpad for drawing from that section. I really like the play button idea. When i saw the rectangle i was like maybe it was a piggy bank but nope just a rectangle box. Makes it look like a canvas though. PS gesso is for any porous matterial as it is also what you coat canvas to paint on(however most already come pregesso) so the ceramic would need a couple coats of gesso and you could get away with one coat of opaque color
The reason ceramic stuff always has a hole in the bottom it happens during the moving process make sure they stay Halo mommy inside so it doesn't get too heavy😊

@katiekatdubui DING DING DING 🤣😂

that’s the cutest idea!!
If I got a play button ▶️ just like that, it would be my favorite item in my room 😊

Ahhh! I love it so much! So excited to see you paint all of the things! Hope you, your hubby, and your baby boy are all doing well!

I noticed that you sometimes paint out of the bottle cap itself. I do that too, but I thought I was the only one! 😊 Love the precision in this piece.
i know this is pretty simple, but i think this might be one of my favorite pieces you've made. it's just so perfect for your channel, and it's really beautifully done! great job marissa :)
Painting paint; Moriah would approve lol
Hi, I love your videos. Ceramics have to be hollow otherwise they will explode in the kiln so that is why they have to have holes in them. Hope that helps x
Ceramics need to have a hole and not be very thick, or it will fall apart when fired. I love the rainbow colored addition to the play button!! 🌈❤
Cool
Great creation 😊
Very cute! I really like how you shaded and highlighted everything! ❤
That just looks like fun! I need to start painting on things other than sketchbook and journal covers! lol
i like these painting videos
6:38 ummm...excuse me! I think your jokes are hilarious! 😂

“I am the only one who wants to eat the paint but also can’t eat the paint because it’s poison?”
Nope, I feel you 😅
Ooo I like it. 👍💖
Hi marissa, looks cool, also love your videos
Hey girl. How's that baby!? And how is momma? Hope everything is going well and praying blessings over you, your husband and your sweet baby.
Love the play button
I JUST got that high gloss varnish a few days ago and omg it works amazingly! I found it through Moriah Elizabeth. Also I looove how it turned out!!!
I DO know why they have a hole. If you put a hollow piece of clay in a kiln without any hole for the heat to circulate the piece can potentially explode do to the heat and pressure. At least that's what my art teacher once told me.
Love your videos 💗😀
Cute =)
Also, the mom-brain hit hard on this one =P
This is for your Q&A What should we call your baby🤗😽
The hole in the ceramics is so it doesn't explode when it is in the kiln. If I'm not mistaken
Hi Marissa! I love your videos❤️
Yaaaaaaaaaaa
0:59 OMG you do the same thing to your paint lids that I do

Please read this! 👁❤your vids.
I'd put a single flower in the hole and turn it into a vase😅

I am annoyed by how big they are sometimes. It’s like they’re asking for an animal/insect to call it home.
I'm pretty sure the hole is there to let the air vent while the clay is in the kiln becuase if not it will build up pressure and explode
the reason ceramics have the hole is for when firing them so they dont explode

Love these DIYs and squishy makeovers. Have a question for you what grade sandpaper do you use for your squishies
The hole is for when the liquid ceramic gets poured into its mold
I have wanted to eat paint but couldn't
The hole is for a plant because they are pot’s
I love your jokes you RUclipsr

@1:19 you should’ve turned that into a sign for your baby’s nursery with his name birth weight n birthdate that would’ve been cute
You should I do create this book 2 and 3 Maria’s book

Hi
I use gesso a lot when painting things, not just on wood and it works well
I love the dollar tree plus section. It is kinda like five below but it has some interesting items. I almost bought a lightpad for drawing from that section.

Hi
The dollar tree in texas has been like that for years, where nothing is a dollar anymore. It just ranges from one dollar and up.
I don’t even have a dollar tree in my country 😢
A humble request that please show your baby in a video i really want to see him
