    Take a marinated tofu block and grate on your fine grate on your grater. It ends up looking like crab. Add vegan mayo, siracha, and nori flakes. Vegan spicy 'crab'. Makes amazing crab rolls!!

    For the inside out roll you have to put the rice on the whole sheet! Or if you don’t want too much rice put the side without rice closer to you and veggies on top of just the nori part and roll towards the rice. Yay for cooking vids👏🏻

      YES! Lately I've just been cutting the Nori in half diagonally and rolling cones as I go. Easier and tastes just as good!

    For the inside out roll, just turn the nori sheet the other way around, ie: the end with the rice to the edge is away from you, and the edge with a gap where the rice stops is closest to you. Also on the edge closest to you, you can let the rice come a bit closer to the edge of the nori sheet.

    I wanna give you a tip on keeping your bamboo rolling thingy clean that i seen on mommytang's RUclips channel. She inserted the bamboo rolling thingy in a gallon ziplock bag to keep it clean and is a easier clean up. I hope you see my message to help you out. Thanks for the amazing recipe. ❤

    Hey Derrick, on doing the inside out roll, I usually cover the whole nori sheet with rice, then flip it over. Usually the rice sticks to itself and binds in enough for cutting.
    Good things to try for the insides: blanched/steamed or sauteed asparagus, Al dente steamed green beans, alfalfa sprouts.
    For the outsides: sesame seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds.
    Thanks for this video! It was great to see a vegan sushi recipe. I used to love seafood sushi with cream cheese.

    Vegan Sushi Tips:
    To Start rolling the outside rice sushi: rice down, then dry side nori with 1/3-1/4 no rice nori side towards you, fill ingredients in no rice nori side then roll so you get a nice round rice outside.
    #tip 2: Vegetables sliced kind of think, dipped in chickpea batter, then dipped in panko crumbs, oven until crispp - use this as your innerds for sushi- crunchyy amazingness that is healthy!!

    Never thought about doing quinoa sushi ! Just for the others to know, it also works only with quinoa ! We tried it with my girlfriend ! :-) 1. Cook the quinoa with extra water on a low heat, don't hesitate to add water a second time it will make it stickier 2.When there is almost no more water and when it's sticky enough, turn off the heat, cover it at least for 10 minutes to make sure it becomes fluffier !

    I just watched one of your old videos when you were in London with Jon Venus & Co. and you made me feel like i feel in big city's...like not all that comfortable and "trapped" x). I'm glad i'm not alone on that one either haha.

    you need the salt, vinegar and sweetness on the rice, try it w date sugar if you don't want to use granulated white, but the sushi dressing does more than just flavor, it actually keeps the microbial activity down. Important when rice is sitting around at room temperature for possibly a few hours before eating. Leftover rice can actually b toxic if not handled properly. but your sushi looks great!

    I just made some earlier after watching your video I used Italian squash, green onion, tofu and avocado. It was great and I made enough for lunch tomorrow.     For anyone who makes their own kombucha at home, hear me out. Use your matured kombucha scoby as a tuna / salmon replacement. It works wonders and goes great in sushi. Be sure to marinate it with your favorite sauce beforehand. Teriyaki sauce and kelp flakes go great as a marinade. Kombucha scobies resemble a nice fish like or squid texture and the subtle sweetness of it pairs well with the rice and crispy vegetables.

    You could also do zukkini or squash (cooked) as a third ingredient. That way you can have a 3 ingredient sushi. So 1 slice of avo, cucumber and either a carrot or steamed squash. I love love veggie rolls especially since I recently became a vegetarian and usually just cook one full pan full of various vegetables. But this has been so basic and minimalistic and yet it satiates you because of the carb. Eating just 8 pieces per sitting ensures you don’t over eat!. And yeah every time I eat a skillet full of vegetable I kind of feel like a pig that’s eating too much. Wrapping your steamed veggies w teriyaki sauce or eel sauce into a seaweed and just having 2 -3 rolls is also a better way to ration.

And the local restaurant where I occasionally got my sushi from was always so boring, there is only one type of vegetable by role and I've been wanting to make my own and make it more colorful for ages and thanks to your tutorial (like always it looks so easy that I want to try it immediately) I'll get Nori asap and make some sushi this week

    It's most traditional and effective to use short grain rice(sticky rice)...brown or white!

    Nice, looks awesome! My best tip is to add some vinegar (rice of apple cider) and sweetener to the rice after cooking, it makes all the difference. And pickled ginger is a must as well:)

    I love adding spicy mayo to mine. Which is basically vegan mayo and sriracha. Also when I want something more “meaty” I’ll also add pieces of chipotle black bean burgers in it. Try it sometime!

    I love to put wasabi paste in the sushi, and for veggies steamed beetroot or pumpkin is good, and even arugula.

    Thanks for this! It was part of my almost-vegan New Year's dinner, makes it so much easier to transition. Turned out a bit of a disaster though, rice didn't stick and couldn't cut the seaweed because it was more soggy than crunchy. Ended up doing sushi-burrito and temaki. I had fun though! Practice makes perfect.
    AND... Everything in Life is O-K if you SMILE! So true.

    Inside out or uramaki you put rice edge to edge flip and roll I also use half sheets when making uramaki generally

    I highly recommend trying sesame leaves (perilla) instead of / in addition to the spinach which will make this a bit more like Korean gimbab. So good.
