  • A recording of coverage of the 1982 World Cup final from Madrid on Sunday 11th July 1982 with Italy against West Germany and not surprisingly coverage of the entire match and the trophy ceremony is blocked and not available but after trimming I can provide the pre-match build-up (missing the very beginning unfortunately), the half time and full time analysis from David Coleman and Lawrie McMenemy and Bobby Charlton in the studio and Jimmy Hill and next England manager Bobby Robson on location in Spain.
News and Weather and Continuity into "The Chinese Detective" follow.

The sound of the klaxon horns at this world cup was amazing..shame on world football for banning them from stadiums it took away the atmosphere and it was the last world cup that we heard that brilliant sound....

Klaxons I recall being a big deal in mainland Europe games early-mid 80s.
The ‘82 World Cup and Euro 84 prime examples.
Was the tragic Heysel game the last time it was noticed?

@@jmxtvarchive9064 you could be right euro 84 they could be heard but the closest thing allowed by eufa/FIFA was the vu vu zela at the South Africa world cup 2010 but that bloody buzzing noise was a bit too much and I remember my cat hated it and would stare at the telly his tail weaving about lol.

Nice find. Interestingly, the audio quality of the Motty's commentary for that final was like the super clear audio we get nowadays. World cup commentary back then usually had that "crackle" to it as I think the phone lines were used to transmit, and there would have been attenuation. Felt like you were looking at a match played in a foreign country. Now they could be playing across the road.

Wonderful clip….takes me back to a time when the beautiful game was always a treat when it featured on television. World Cup ‘82 was special to so many, especially as live football was so rare in those days…great presenters and pundits too.

Thanks...I've been hoping for this to be uploaded for ages. Any chance of being able to upload the prematch build up and half time analysis of the Italy Brazil game from 1982 (It was shown live on BBC and previously YT had the immediate post match review which was very short).

Zero chance! Wish I had it but any early-mid 80s recordings are hard to find on VHS

@@jmxtvarchive9064 Shame...the post match analysis of the classic Italy Brazil game from 1982 was here on YT but has since been taken off. Surely BBC or someone else could put in on.

There’s a better chance finding Betamax recordings from that era but my machine was ruined by faulty tapes last year and I have little time now to find another working machine and gamble on old tapes.

@@chrisbennett6260 it was on YT until last year cica but it's no longer available...probably something to do with copyright infringement, which is a shame.

I remember the excellent BBC coverage. I was 18 and healthy and happy. Before the BBC turned Woke and had women commenting on men’s football. Ludicrous.

Lawrie McMemeny very nearly went to Manchester United the previous year and when Sexton was sacked both McMemeny and Bobby Robson were both linked with Manchester United
