Growing up on a small dairy farm, seeing this just makes me feel bad. It's too big, too industrial. No connection between the cow and the farmer. Also it makes it impossible for young guys to enter the business, since competing with these factories just isn't possible. It's just sad seeing this.
True but at least he does it alone so that there are still enough ppl for the smaller farmers, i am worker at a smaller farm and where i work the farmer doesnt have a automatic milking machine so he really needs workers and farmers like these don’t need the workers so that is nice.
the guys that milk about 5000 would need this. an average cow eats about 2 percent of their body weight. a day which comes out to 25 lbs per day take that times 5000 head they would milk. they would have to fill to capacity twice a day and feed.
The most important thing is the cows are healthy, happy, comfortable and well fed. I worked on a small dairy farm and would have loved to work on a farm like this.
i dont think, that those cows are not healthy - too much starch & energy in the ration and not fit for ruminants, by the looks of it. would need a lot more raw fiber/crude fiber to be healthy for a cow. just an assumption but i guess those cows dont have more than 2-3 calfes at best?
Wouldn't it make more sense to drive your feeder closer to the silage then make a lot of trips with the front loader. You could load so much faster since it is your biggest ingredient. But fun video to watch thanks for sharing!
