Basically you wanna build Qi as much as possible to use the wind tamer fan, Which breaks the shields and I think you have like 30 seconds before he puts up a new shield. You can build Qi with the gourd that allows Qi build up, and staff spin then just repeat and do damage. Be mindful with using immobilise when his shield up it will deflect to you and also when you hit him with focus points like smash staff etc.... he can see it coming when he's not attacking so would recommend light attack followed up with triangle heavy or when he is in the middle of combos. Earlang was fun to play even though I died like a 100 times

🍀 Maybe you've beaten him by the time I'm responding! And you got it man I'm glad I could help you out. Before the patch you can stunlock him for a super long time with whirlwind thrusts in thrust stance but you can still do it on other bosses if you connect it on their back. I also made this video on Erlang in a first playthrough save which I believe is harder than NG+ from what I've heard, but I think bosses get much harder in future NG+'s. You could use this similar strategy against the stone monkey: Phase 1 - vessel & spirit. Phase 2 - Transformation. Phase 3 - Pluck of many. Thanks again for hanging out on my videos 🤗
Dude this boss they made him ridiculously hard after that patch. Wish I beat him before that update man. Literally everything I throw at the guy he deflects in some way. If gamers want a good rage 😤 play this boss lol 😂
@supertrendymoneymaker0722 yep, same as that, I'm on my third cycle and finding it impossible to beat, he is more aggressive, hits do a lot more damage, he's shield almost comes back straight away, the fan doesn't knock all his shield out, he dodges all my big focus points hits🤦♂️
It's possible man you got it! I recorded this after the patch as I did it just the other day. To be honest he's still tough because sometimes he can hit you with the fan going, some of it feels RNG, you have to get those focus points as yellow loong in your transformation, you have to get pluck of many out if following my guide. This was the easiest method I could think of though with the whirling thrust stance being patched. Alternatively you could use pluck of many with gore-eyed daoist to increase their damage, but then it's harder to get rid of Erlangs shield. Good luck!!
I’m on NG3+, I founded that you can use transformation without getting kicked out of it, transformation I use is Azure Dome, when Erlang transform to the bird or tiger, with a “right timing” press heavy attack when Erlang attack. If you successfully dodge his attack you can continue to use your transformation. (I did)
Sheesh that's a huge tip. Funny you mention that I was trying to do light attacks and duck under his bird when using azure dust (not dome but similar thinking with evading him). Wasn't able to dodge him though so dust never lasted long, but dome seems good too. This was recorded in a first playthrough save as well.

I finally beat The Great Sage's broken shell on great sage difficulty he is by farrrrr the hardest boss in the game Here is the build Qing Mallet Wind Tamer Turtle Treasure See no evil, Yin-Yang Daoist Robe, Bull King's Bracers and greaves Curios: gold sun crow, jade moon rabbit, gold button, tiger tendon belt, boshan censer Qing-Tian gourd Drinks dry spirit Soaks bee mountain stone, iron pellet Spells: rock solid, life-saving strand transformation azure dome and for mysticism spell binder but I didn't use it, you can choose what ever you want

@@AdamHartGaming thank you I just wanna help others to have fun and trying different builds, in fact this is not my primary build but this one focuses on massive damage reduction and 3/4 focus points damage, it's not the best in term of damage but definitely the best in term of long long fight against hardest bosses like the Great Sage's I'm gonna drop the video soon

Try using pluck of many in the second phase with gore-eye daoist to buff your duplicates. I haven't tried ebon flow but blocking with him for his special move might be useful too. Still, thanks for watching! Good luck
I beat him!! thanks man!! Finally had some time to play this morning. The biggest thing for me was being able to destroy his shield with Golden Loong and saving the wind tamer. Just Keep pressing him with Golden Loong with Light,Heavy, Heavy. For anyone that needs help.

honestly this boss is so overtuned it just becomes plain unfun, the guard mechanic needs to be deleted from the game.
