jimmy hoffa haha I love to see what people are using. I find their view on pedals/simplicity/tone so intriguing. I'm not sure if I've seen you before, but then again.. no one has seen you for a long time ;)
This interview was a dream come true for me. Jamie is my all time favorite guitarist. Completely my guitar hero, and here he is going in depth about the odds and ends of his sound. I love how genuine he is about it all, and how he still carries that much joy for the sounds/gear after a full career. That joy is why musicians do what they do. Having that instrument that's so good that you just have to tell someone about it.
+Premier Guitar *please* tell your interviewers not to ever skip over guitars! i hate seeing guitars in the background or next to them on stage, and having the interviewer never ask about them. other than that, premier guitar rocks, and is by far the best guitar magazine/youtube channel.
+Calvin Lee We typically only ask them to talk about the main ones, for time concerns (show/venue). We'd love to talk about all the guitars, but if time becomes scarce, we skip over backups. Sorry!
Insane guitarrist, plays both bass and guitar lines at the same time, wihout using his left middle finger, and sings at the same time. Just beyond human.
I am so glad to have come across this interview. Jamie is a genius when it comes to tone and dynamics so learning about the shark pick ups and all his enthusiasm about his vintage guitar collection and other gear was a delight. I’d say he is one of the greatest and most unique guitarists of today and very underrated. I really hope The Kills continue to make great music 🤘🏻
It's exciting to see Jamie's enthusiasm over his gear. A lot of artists seem a little exhausted or more mellow. Every once in a while, an artist will have an explosive excitement to talk about their gear, which is really cool to see.
For those interrested in Galaxie/176 name dillema. That guitar is model 176. Both of them in this video. Hofner was exporting for Selmer company to England. They wanted names to models, not numbers. Also they weren’t fans of that treble O bass switch. So Galaxie was born. They are called like that only in UK rest of Europe had 176s but since Galaxie is so cool name lot of people know it, it’s easier than 176... Galaxies don’t have treble O bass and have stamped serial numbers. 176 all have TOB switch and don’t have serial numbers. Pickups don’t mater, but Galaxies were discontiued sooner than 176 so most of them have Staple pickups. When Galaxies ended I don’t know someone maybe can let me know. 176 were made till end of 70s. Cheers.
This is so great. Big ups to her for bringing out Jamie's immense childlike charm in this interview. It was a real rope-a-dope and never smooth, but damn she hung in and got so much out of him. And man, the sheer amount of age and dust and tape on display here just makes me love The Kills even more.
Seeing Jamie live its definitely surprising how full he makes his band sound. Its cool knowing that he achieves a lot of his sound through multiple amps and not pedals. You can hear him doing his little reverb/amp trick on No Wow live.
I like that he combines everything, he use different amps, different guitars, pedals, strings, well everything is different and he has a unique sound. Most people use same stuffs as other artists and it's silly, you supposed to sound like you not somebody else
For me this is inspirational ! I have busted up fingers/ arthritis etc....and have had to adapt to different styles and chord shapes....and you can do it !!!
This is what you’re supposed to look like at 50. Full of life and enthusiasm...... MUSIC Is Life, PASSION is Life. He’s still like a kid with his first guitar. I love this and Tessa is the real deal too!
Playing through lots of amps at once was not so uncommon at one time. I'm surprised a bit that more players don't do more blending of amps. Hendrix immediately comes to mind. They used to just have a wall of combos behind them before the Marshall stack took over. So cool to see him just play around with all his toys and explore the tonal possibilities. Cabinets/speakers are definitely the most under-rated part of any rig. They make a lot of the tone themselves.
this host is really impressive. jamie is totally geeking out and you can tell he's slinging out information that many people just aren't going to pick up on (me included). but she is very good at redirection, and also asking questions which bring out that information. she strikes a nice balance between being a fan and being a host, which is part of what makes this video so interesting.
Indist1nct I don't know what you're watching but it must not be this. She's awful, she talks when she shouldn't talking over him and doesn't when she should leaving awkward pauses when she should be asking questions. Also she speaks to softly and unclear she seems very nervous and uninformed about everything going on and has no enthusiasm compared to Jamie. He totally hella rocks tho
Thanks for sharing Jamie, by the way my friend at MJS Pickups is a master luthier and can make any custom pickups and he is one of the best at it! (e.g. rotary pick ups used in Toni Immoi's Monkey reissue SG). Me and the wifey love all your Kills albums! Keep on Rocking!
Seen them open for Interpol at the Hollywood Bowl 3 nights ago. They were loud and awesome I really enjoyed they’re set and his tone is just excellent.
Thanks for the rundown, many of my questions got answered! One thing I still wish you would've asked is Jamies signal chain, because the wiring on his board is just plain confusing..! If someone was wondering what's the switchbox / looper-system Jamie uses, I think it's the Gigrig Midi 8. It doesn't have the same paintjob as the original, but all the switches match.
i kind of want a book about guitars now by jamie hince :D everything sounds so interesting, even though i don't understand much. feel like it'd be a real pleasure for artists to exchange ideas with him, and i'm happy that alison and jamie found each other.
I think she's more intimidated and dosen't know what to do with his energy level.Usually, she's interviewing techs, not actual musicians, and usually, you have to draw info out, where Hince needs no prompting. She did okay, simply by not interrupting.
Was lucky enough to find a pair of those 513 blade pickups recently and put them on a Strat. Can totally see why Jamie is so obsessed with them. And yes... they are louder than everything else - even hot humbuckers, but also very little 60 cycle hum and very clean and full sounding. Another important thing with the Hofners with staple pickups like the cream one would have had is the position-specific tone cap values. Very different to Fender values - particularly on the neck pickup. Wonder if Jamie also changed the tone caps on the cream one to the same .033mf for all positions like on the 70s one when he put the "blades" on it.
Great Rundown! It's nice to see when an artist knows about his tools and likes to talk about them. This and Frampton's rundown were great. Very much the opposite of some artists that don't know shit about their gear and have guitar techs wiping their asses (like that crappy Wombats guy). Oh and Tessa is great!
@premierguitar Is there any way to do the machine gun effect with a delay pedal with the volumen level controled?? Thanks a lot for the Rig rundown show! greetings from Spain
Only because of this Video i bought this Höfner Blade Pickup on the second market and put it in my Fender Tele. After a few modifications it fits in the body. The Blade Pickup really sounds Killer. But there is a big problem about it. The Blade Pickups have a notch, where the b-string is placed and course of that the b-string sounds remarkable quiter. That sucks. Is there an expert to tell me why this PUs got that notch and how to fix that problem. A wound g-string is my first idea.
I really regret not buying the Hofner reissue when I had the chance. I loved the neck on it. I don't care for all of the controls but that was a very comfortable guitar. I was gonna justify buying it as a gift for my girlfriend at the time lol. I just thought it complimented my P90 SG standard really well.
+Spaghettaboutit Cos it's Premier Guitar and they don't do the drum kits on these videos. At least none of the ones I've seen. They're consistent at least. ;-)
I thought Tessa could have done a little more detailed interview... She didn't ask a lot of obvious (in my opinion) questions... Why do Jamie swaps the bridges on his Hofners? What's that amp/pedal switcher? I love Rig Rundown but this one just made me a little frustrated...
I read an article about him in GQ USA once, interesting fella but didn't think of checking out his band. Guess I'm gonna have to do that now! Great interview! Can you get one with Iron Maiden (like a real rundown) in the future, now that they're touring?
does anyone know what drum machine he's using on superstitution off keep on your mean side? its the sound at the beginning --- almost like a geiger counter clicking --- that I'm interested in. thanks.
DISCOGOTHTHEJAZZFAN you look the right man. How are you with songs lyrics understanding? I'm trying to get the proper words up 2-3 songs but I'm failing andmissing something.
He's so excited to be talking about it all, I love it
I run into u alot on all these guitar demos.
jimmy hoffa haha I love to see what people are using. I find their view on pedals/simplicity/tone so intriguing.
I'm not sure if I've seen you before, but then again.. no one has seen you for a long time ;)
Yeah I love seeing what other people r playing. Ive picked up a thing or two on these rig reviews tonewise. Ive learned quite a bit.
yeah! real cool guy...
I love how he just nerds out over his gear haha He's definitely one of my favorite guitarist of all time!!
Yep. He's the most interesting guitar style I've seen in a long time.
Such an original take on what you can do with a guitar without technicality
This interview was a dream come true for me. Jamie is my all time favorite guitarist. Completely my guitar hero, and here he is going in depth about the odds and ends of his sound. After seeing so many rig rundowns with guitar techs; it’s great to see a guy who IS HIS OWN GUITAR TECH. he’s a guitarists guitarist!
Awesome look into Jaime's sound. He gets some crazy tone and I'm actually surprised this even happened. Thanks premier guitar.
+RudyValo We love the Kills - look for a proper print interview with Jamie in an upcoming issue of PG.
Sorry!
Premier Guitar understandable. thanks for the response though! you guys and gals are cool.
+Calvin Lee Thanks!
Oh my gosh like the second he starts talking about his guitar he gets so excited!! it's awesome. It's no wonder they're still going strong.
Insane guitarrist, plays both bass and guitar lines at the same time, wihout using his left middle finger, and sings at the same time. Just beyond human.

Awesome to see Jamie (one of the coolest dudes ever?) nerding out so hard.
Thank you for this!
Love him dearly. Can't believe Ash & Ice 2 days to go. Album of the year!! Hofner forever!!
Thank you so much for making this happen. I never thought Hince would be on this channel, truly in innovator of the electric guitar! Truly!
man how terrifying for a guy like this to injure his hand. So glad he's found ways to work around it.
Seeing Jamie live its definitely surprising how full he makes his band sound. Its cool knowing that he achieves a lot of his sound through multiple amps and not pedals. You can hear him doing his little reverb/amp trick on No Wow live.
Jamie's enthusiasm is inspiring. It makes me want to stop watching RUclips and go play. Great Rig Rundown.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you a thousand times Premier Guitar!!!!!!!!!
+Edwin Odendaal You're welcome!
I like that he combines everything, he use different amps, different guitars, pedals, strings, well everything is different and he has a unique sound. Most people use same stuffs as other artists and it's silly, you supposed to sound like you not somebody else
I get back to this video every few months to hear him talking so passionately so that i can get inspired.
YYYYEEEEEEESSSSS. My dreams just became reality!
Seen them live three times, met Jamie backstage one of the times, great guy with a great passion! Super cool guy to chat with.
sheesh, I'm glad I bought my hofner 176 before this video came out.
now no chance of finding one
Myself as well I have the exact same one he played at the beginning sunburst !!!
For me this is inspirational ! I have busted up fingers/ arthritis etc....and have had to adapt to different styles and chord shapes....and you can do it !!!
JAMIE HINCE GENIUS..!!!
Thank you some much Premier Guitar! It's been a long time I wanted to know about them !! xoxo from France
Chelsea Wolfe please!
Please!
Second!
Thank you for the best rig rundown yet. I was grinning all the way through - I love Jamie's enthusiasm :)
That was really enjoyable! I'm off to buy some pick ups. ..
This dude is a riot! Love it.
Tessa is easily one of the best on here because of how well researched she is before going in to each interview.
This is great! Thank you. Jamie is such an inetersting guitarist. Love his sounds
This is what you’re supposed to look like at 50. Full of life and enthusiasm...... MUSIC Is Life, PASSION is Life. He’s still like a kid with his first guitar. I love this and Tessa is the real deal too!
Please do an in-depth rig rundown of Tame Impala. it would be the rig rundown OF THE CENTURY!
It's like he's always giving you the finger x)
This dude is awesome, he gets a lot from just a guitar
Playing through lots of amps at once was not so uncommon at one time. I'm surprised a bit that more players don't do more blending of amps. Hendrix immediately comes to mind. They used to just have a wall of combos behind them before the Marshall stack took over.

i was probably drunk tbh
Wow, a great birthday gift that I just discovered now! But still counts, of course! Thank you +Premier Guitar! Jamie is Great!
Love this Rig rundown. We can see the artist show and play their own gear.
Can't thank you enough for this Premier Guitar! Please please please do Johnny Marr!! He seems the sort of guy that would jump at the chance.
Really great musician and as we can see, simple man. Cheers, Jamie!
perfect combo of interviewer and interviewey. like spinal tap.
Thanks for this Rig rundown! I'm a huge fan of the band!
He even kepT the price on the Octave pedal. LOLThis guy is amazing, really good rundown, prolly the best in a while :)

What a lovable gentleman.
Yasss. Hotel‘s guitar sound on Doing it to Death gives me chills.
such a sweet, inspiring dude. love everything he does. the interviewer looks bored and uninterested. he doesnt deserve that
I think she's more intimidated and dosen't know what to do with his energy level.Usually, she's interviewing techs, not actual musicians, and usually, you have to draw info out, where Hince needs no prompting.
She did okay, simply by not interrupting.
THANKYOU SO MUCH!!! I've waited forever or this!!!!!!!!

yay! I always wanted to know all the equipment they used to achieve such a great sound, Thankyou Premier Guitar!!
He’s a great composer as well, his guitar tone and minimal sound and great.
This rundown should have been done a long time ago.
I regularly come back to this video just to enjoy his sweeeet ass tone
Really enjoyed this despite the creative anxiety, very cool dude..
Such a cool guy! Now I like The Kills even more!
Love his playing. Great touches and emotion. He does love the hard slide though. Like a gasp or breath in between phrases.
This is one my fav Rig Rundown episodes, I would love to know what Drum Machine they use for keep on your mean side album, somebody knows? Thanks!
He's gotta be keef's illigit son...
Hahaha his voice is similar. That british accent
Nice video! Have you thought about a rig rundown of Thee Oh Sees' John Dwyer?? That would be crazy!
I have the first sunburst 176 but with the perloid fretboard of the second white 176...Bad azzz guitar.
Amazing player!
I'm glad to hear he's a Wilko fan
my favorite guitarist
What is he playing at 16:17? I'm not familiar with his music. Amazing artist, I love his energy.
It's a song called "Baby Says" from The Kills' 4th record Blood Pressures. Check The Kills out!!
@premierguitar Is there any way to do the machine gun effect with a delay pedal with the volumen level controled?? Thanks a lot for the Rig rundown show! greetings from Spain
did you guys happen to see what device he uses for the drum tracks? i think i see it on the right side beside his pedalboard!? thanks guys!

⚡️Thee most creative sound designer on percussion and guitars ever....⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⚡️
That riff at 6:10 😩💦 watched it over a few times for about 5 minutes just so I could see how to play it myself XD
Another great rig rundown , loved the way Tessa let him runaway with his exuberant manner!!!! 😎
interesting, glad they showed the machine gun effect, i always thought he was using the hold feature on the dd-3
@15:10
dude, if you gotta pee, just go pee! I'm sure they'll let you take a bathroom break
Wait, why no info on the drum machine?! :/
+Spaghettaboutit Cos it's Premier Guitar and they don't do the drum kits on these videos. At least none of the ones I've seen. They're consistent at least. ;-)
He used to use an old MPC2000 if I recall, but they use a live drummer now
They had live drums on this tour.
Rig Rundown-Richie Faulkner?
He loves his gear, I love his gear, I got a Hofner 173 sadly with staple pick ups I just found out! Haha
So glad she asked him what he writes on!
I thought Tessa could have done a little more detailed interview... She didn't ask a lot of obvious (in my opinion) questions... Why do Jamie swaps the bridges on his Hofners? What's that amp/pedal switcher? I love Rig Rundown but this one just made me a little frustrated...
I love this guy
This... is juste.. AWESOME!
this guy is cool as fuck
+Johnny Cab You're 100% dead on mate...and this video displays sexual tension at it'speak.... he'd mount her in a heart beat when the cameras stop...
I read an article about him in GQ USA once, interesting fella but didn't think of checking out his band. Guess I'm gonna have to do that now! Great interview!
Can you get one with Iron Maiden (like a real rundown) in the future, now that they're touring?
Where is Alison? And, I'm sure he can get the original company to make more of those pickups. Don't you think so?
So much enthusiasm! He's loving this. way more interesting than some of he guys who are like "I don't know... the tech does that bit"
This MAN doesn't deserve to have any problem with any finger. .
does anyone know what drum machine he's using on superstitution off keep on your mean side? its the sound at the beginning --- almost like a geiger counter clicking --- that I'm interested in. thanks.
he used to have a mpc 1000 back in the day
0:58 these are called "shopfans"? "Shoffens"? Please what did you say?
Shark fins!
DISCOGOTHTHEJAZZFAN thanx!
vinnie dolly Sure, man!
DISCOGOTHTHEJAZZFAN you look the right man. How are you with songs lyrics understanding? I'm trying to get the proper words up 2-3 songs but I'm failing andmissing something.
what a lovely guy.
Please make a Lil Wayne - Rig Rundown video!
What's the name of the song that Jamie starts playing on 13:40?
U.R.A Fever from Midnight Boom
Great guy
Great dude
