I have uploaded a much shorter private camera version of this lecture before but this one has the slides--they are not the best quality but better than nothing. I am "resurrecting" some of these older lectures because they not only capture the times--but also cover materials that I have not touched upon in many years. This one was done in 2006. In the Near East the tradition is that Matthew came first. Mark is a short version of Matthew. Mark and Luke never studied under Jesus. Mark was a child during that time.

Tabor is MADDENING and EXASPERATING!! - on the one hand, the good Professor rises to such lofty heights (and the sublime painting thumbnails accompanying his videos attest to it) that I feel impelled to call him El Divino - and yet at other times, he panders to the base, the mediocre, and the commonplace and yields instead to public pressure and peer approbation, instead of sticking to his core beliefs and faith.
- Regarding John the Baptizer and Jesus, I suppose the best way to describe the relationship between them would be something similar to that between Elijah and Elisha. Since it can be reasonably claimed John the Baptizer was likely Essene, or at least was influenced/trained by the Essenes at some point in the desert, it follows from that that Jesus too would have displayed Essenian sympathies and teaching methods.
-- Indeed, the man whose home Jesus directs “the disciples”/Peter and John to go to in Matt 26:17 and Luke 22:8 for the (first High Wednesday) Passover Seder where He substitutes His Own Person for the Sacrificial Lamb and the Tabernacle/Temple Showbread/Presence Bread (Lechem Panim) for Pesach/Shavout/Sukkot may himself have been an Essene! Otherwise why allow any “Teacher” in?
- Further, from Luke 6:40 “The disciple is not above his teacher/mentor, but everyone/every student who is fully trained will be like his teacher” Cf Matthew 10:24 and John 15:20 and 13:16, it appears highly likely it was John the Baptizer Jesus was referring and paying respect to, and drawing inspiration from. (though John has probably been altered/corrupted to parallel the relationship to that between God the Father and Jesus, and the second part of Matt 11:11 “Yet even the least in the Kingdom of Heaven etc.” is also likely a later interpolation designed to ensure primacy to Jesus over John the Baptizer.)
- Jesus, the one who “baptized with the Holy Spirit and with Fire” is in NO WAY diminished by lauding and even acknowledging primacy to his Teacher/Mentor John the Baptizer who “baptized with water”. (Matt 3:11, Luke 3:16, Mark 1:8, John 1:33). Quite the opposite, rather!
- Any true and worthy spiritual disciple worth his salt does it across ALL religions and faiths, and the Teacher delights in such a student and in turn exalts HIM.
- Anyway, today is the Holy Day of the Holy Fire of the Church of the Sepulchre of the Risen Christ before Orthodox Easter, and I have said enough.
- PS. Is this video from 2006? What was Tabor doing here? He should have been debating Richard Bauckham from St. Andrews instead of Bart Ehrman, who is the Saul to Tabor’s Gamaliel! Tabor should be the one doing the talking, since Tabor is the right person with the appropriate intellectual and spiritual gravitas to be debating Bauckhams and other esteemed Anglican theologian academics/apologists, since Tabor possesses the mental and spiritual gravitas to take them on. Bart Ehrman even now depends on and sets store by his own righteousness.
I would like to know why you obviously date the "Last Supper" to WEDNESDAY instead of Thursday? Apparently you have been influenced by Barbara Thiering!
Jesus and his disciples ate the Passover on the NIGHT BEFORE he was crucified. Since according to the "John Gospel" he was crucified on the PREPARATION DAY BEFORE the PASSOVER DAY which was ALSO that Year a regular SABBATH DAY (Saturday), it would have HAD to have been on a Friday. Thus, they had the meal on THURSDAY night.
Since you seem to be more than ordinarily familiar with Judaism, you SHOULD KNOW that Jews have ALWAYS counted Days of the Week as beginning at 🌄; NOT as we do at 🌅. Therefore, working backwards to the error of your miscalculation, the Sabbath would have begun at 🌄 on FRIDAY. PASSOVER, according to the "Exodus" account, occurs AFTER 🌄 so it would have been at NIGHT of what we would call "FRIDAY" but the Jews would refer to as "SATURDAY MORNING"; since as I stated "morning" for THEM (BACKWARDS yes, as ARE their written texts!!) BEGINS at 🌄 of the preceding Day NOT with 🌅. Since they are not allowed to do ANY work on a Sabbath INCLUDING household chores, they ALWAYS PREPARE their meals on FRIDAY the preceding Day. BUT, they would have done THAT anyway, since ANY HOLY Festival Day is a "SABBATH". The confusion apparently occurs because THIS particular Sabbath was BOTH. So.... Jesus DIED and was BURIED on FRIDAY and celebrated the "Passover" naturally in ADVANCE since he KNEW (which his disciples DIDN'T) that he would be DEAD by then, and was ARRESTED on THURSDAY night. This method of chronology has also caused "forward timing" confusion about HOW MANY days he was dead in the tomb and WHEN he resurrected. Since he was SUPPOSED as he said to be THREE DAYS AND NIGHTS in the tomb, (coinciding with the THREE monthly days and nights of 🌑: FRIDAY NIGHT/SATURDAY MORNING would be the FIRST NIGHT; SaturDAY would be the FIRST DAY; SATURDAY NIGHT/SUNDAY MORNING would be the SECOND NIGHT; SunDAY would be the SECOND DAY; SUNDAY NIGHT/MONDAY MORNING would be the THIRD NIGHT; and MonDAY would be the THIRD DAY. So he AROSE on MONDAY NIGHT/TUESDAY MORNING! Further confusion as been caused by the gospels' reference to the "FIRST DAY of the WEEK" as the Day of the Resurrection. THIS was NOT meant as being the "First Day" of the JUDES' Week counting from the SABBATH of the SEVENTH DAY, but as the NEW "FIRST DAY" of the CHRISTIANS" "WEEK" beginning with the "GENESIS" of the "NEW Life" in the "NEW Adam".
THIS RELIGIOUS explanation is the ONLY clarification for the otherwise OBVIOUS mathematically ABSURD count that Jesus was in the tomb THREE FULL DAYS and NIGHTS as he SAID he WOULD be. We cannot interpret him to mean three "Days" as counting nominally by "Friday" (night), "Saturday" (day and night), and "Sunday" morning (before dawn) because the ancient Judes just DIDN'T count them that way and days of ALL the ancient cultures concerned went by NUMBERS, NOT names.
Anointing oil the modern translation of ‘qaneh’ and ‘bosm’ in the recipe for the sacred oil that The Lord told Moses to prepare in Exodus 30:22-25… and ‘fragrant cane’. In other examples this is translated to say ‘sweet calamus’ = Cannabis ?

Jesus Baptized at Bethabara
Most Christians don’t know this, but Jesus was Baptized in an area called Jordan, but not in the muddy Jordan river. Jesus was Baptized in a pool fed by clean spring water. The Gospel of John 1:28 is the only one of the 4 gospels that specifies the exact location where John baptized Jesus, at a place where there was much clean water, called Bethabara. These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. The next day John seeth Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
Bethabara was the place where there was clean spring water to drink, and where both Jesus and John the Baptist disciples were living together in the caves in the wilderness.
The Dead Sea Scrolls are among the oldest copies of the original Scriptures ever found. They date back to the time of Jesus Christ, and they were found buried in clay jars in caves that were within walking distance of where John the Baptist, Baptized Jesus beyond the river Jordan. Many scholars believe that the followers of John the Baptist lived in these caves because it would have been much cooler inside the caves than out in the hot desert sun.
In the New Testament John 1:28 it says: "These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing!" Jesus was baptized in Bethabara, which is just a short distance north of Qumran where the Dead Sea schools were copied.
If you look at a map of the area between Bethabara and Qumran, you can see all the caves where John the Baptist followers were living, and this is exactly where they found the Dead Sea scrolls sealed in clay jars.
If John the Baptist followers were living in these caves around Bethabara, one of the few things that members of these religious groups would have among their few possessions would be copies of the Sacred Scriptures, in several different languages, written on scrolls made from animal skins.

I wondered about Mary the mother of Jesus. So, when she became pregnant Joseph DID put her out, at least the evidence suggests a three-month dismissal. Mary's family also put her out and this explains why she went to Elizabeth for those 3 months. John the Baptist was six months older than Jesus. So how is he Jesus's mentor. Sounds like they followed the same theology. This guy leaves out a lot of important points with his confused Zionist jewish Rabbinic teachings.
Not to mention, according to Josephus, John was executed six years AFTER Jesus. And even taking the “gospels” as they are, John was Jesus’ cousin, baptized him, allegedly heard the voice from heaven etc. And then several years later sends his disciples to ask Jesus who he was because he didn’t even know him?
