Unending and awful pain in Alec's eyes proves his love to Magnus more than all romantic words. And their kiss... You can feel indestructible bond among them, trust and sacrifice, fear and hope. One of the best scenes of Malec...
Are people forgetting that Magnus is over 400 years old...? I honestly think Alec trusts him more than anyone for that reason. If someone that old was telling me what they think is going to work, I'd believe them. Also, Magnus knows that a part of Alec would die if Jace did and he would hate it if that happened. He only wants to save Jace to ensure that his Alec stays whole. Would I have liked more emotion in this scene? Hell yes. But having watched every episode, Alec has never been an openly emotional character. He's slowly starting to be more open, but to be totally honest, I would've been surprised if Alec had been crying, pleading, all that. It's just not him, from what I've taken away from the show? He sees the logic before his feelings get involved, it's how he was raised/trained. And I really really hope they figure out a way for Magnus to get his magic back though. I'd be so sad if it was gone forever forever. :(
I don't understand why you're all hating on Malec this episode. Hate on me all you like, but just hear me out, would you... I found that kiss quite sweet, just enough to tell Magnus he loves him without looking too needy. Also, the lack of reaction is because he's in utter shock. He likely didn't actually think Magnus would genuinely go through with attempting to contact his father, and he's petrified for his life. Also, Jace might also legitimately die (again) if he's stuck with Lilith for much longer, so he's scared for him too. If you had to choose between the guy you share your soul with, and the love of your life, you'd be in a right state as well. I can understand Alec's reactions in this episode. Hiding how you feel is sometimes a lot easier than actually reacting, especially if you're scared for someone's life (because noticeably reacting might end up killing them). Also, I'm a little miffed at the Malec fandom. We get a good moment and you're all complaining because of a situation neither of them can control, or a minor slipup. I'm a Malec shipper, but quite often I'm ashamed to be one when I see what the fandom's like. Just watch the scenes and shut up, would you? Thank you. Have a great day :) Edit: What the hell did you want Alec to do? Scream and cry and beg Magnus not to go? Have you thought about how that might confuse and overwhelm Magnus? People make stupid decisions sometimes, but it's easier and safer to let them go ahead and learn from their mistakes, rather than yelling at them immediately and trying to correct them. To clarify: I was talking about Magnus and Edom.
Andrea Dillmar I agree with you wholeheartedly. The "you're gonna make it back, ya hear me" was all that was needed to be said, and the kiss just reinforced how badly they both didn't want this to happen, but accepted it all the same. I can't wait for 3B, but it's on August 15th... This hiatus is going to kill me 😂
yes i agree with you and plus: alec isn't clary in season 1, he won't cry and beg and act all emotional because he knows this is what has to happen to save jace, and yes alec shows more emotion now but he still hides them, he is clearly in a lot of pain watching magnus screaming
I agree with most comments here... i expected more from this scene. Have Alec more conflicted because saving Jace is important but the love of his life is putting himself in Danger and may not come back, the lack of emotion from Alec is obvious in this scene by how its written. i really liked the other scene but i wanted to see Alec be protective of Magnus here
That kiss though 💋 Malec have so much love for one another its so beautiful to watch i will miss them so much when im done with the show in a few weeks 😭
I love, love, love Malec, so don’t come for me, but I thought this scene was poorly done. It should have had us in tears, but the Simon scene were more emotional. Starting with Alec lack of response when Magnus asked if Jace was worth it, he could have said something like “not at your expense or something, he could have argued for a minute with Magnus, even if Magnus ultimately goes. Does he understand the magnitude of this sacrifice and that Magnus run the risk of not making it back. Also almost no reaction when Magnus step in that fire and appears to be burning and in pain, tsk. Instead we get Magnus saying I love you first, because he understands the danger he’s in. And if ever there was a time for Alec to say I love you first, it’s that moment. I thought the show wasted an opportunity to make this scene as emotional as it should have been. Oh and even the kiss, was meh, it should have been more like the one in s2e10, when he was afraid he had lost Magnus.
@Mel I 100% agree and dont care if others think Im being too hard on malec. Alec shouldve said more after Magnus asked if Jace was worth it. shouldve reacted more. Even if he was just gonna reiterate the whole "Im nothing without Jace" spiel again, at least he couldve added something like "But I cant lose you, too." And Magnus is literally screaming and in pain a few feet from Alec and all Alec can do is stare? I mean at least yell out his name in concern or yell out "You have to come back!" Like you said Mel, the scene with Simon and his motger were heartbreaking and when his sister accepted him so sincerely I was tearing up. I shouldve been crying a lot more with malec scenes but I only got one with Magnus yelling out "Alec!" in fear as Jace was stabbing him. C'mon malec! Youve been thru so much together! Lets put a bit more emotional conbection into these moments
infin ity Alec could've said something like "Magnus, there's gotta be another way without putting your life at risk...", and act a little bit more protective. I feel like the writers are rushing to develop the storyline with Asmodeus (and just generally thruout the seasons), and end up missing out on opportunities to develop meaning dialogues with certain characters. I'd rather they dragged the story out a little bit and give more time for character building thru conversations.
sunnydaydlite like you said Alec is very protective and he would have had more to say before agreeing for Magnus to go in edom. This sacrifice as it is is not a Malec sacrifice it was a Magnus sacrifice.
Mel Saint yea! And then they made Jace seemed like he cared more about Clary! I mean Clary was in the hands of Lilith at the moment but he could've acted a little more devastated at the fact that he stabbed Alec in the heart and that Magnus traded his magic to save him! I just hope things will improve in 3B
Mel Saint and yea Alec just acted like he was okay for Magnus to risk his life for Jace. I mean I appreciated he said "absolutely not", but should've said something about tell me Jace isn't worth it.
We got a similar scene to that one in the books, when Magnus is missing and Jonathan wants Clary and Jace to surrender themselves to him in return for Magnus and the other prisoners. But book Alec did not want Jace to sacrifice himself for Magnus even though he was desperate. He was wise enough to recognize that, that is what Jonathan wants and that it is not right to sacrifice a loved one for another. He wouldn't have let Magnus sacrifice himself either. They really don't do him justice in that scene. Bc book Alec might have some flaws the show Alec is missing, but he was a lot smarter than show Alec is right now. Same goes for his reactions during the downworlders - shadowhunters conflict. PS: Did they forget that the Silent Brothers raised Magnus?
yes, he never met his father until he summoned him only to saw how he was like.. and he hates him.. even in the 2 season Magnus said that he have had to discover the Downworld on his own... i understand that the show change from the book, but the character background??? what's the reason?
Ire idk, maybe in 3B or (hopefully) s4 we'll find out why they changed his background so much, maybe he'll go back to edom or smthing to get his powers back or smthing idk?
I don't know, really, because, sounds strange a deal like that for a demon... why Asmodeus wants his magic when he has so much more power? i don't think Magnus is mortal now, because i can't stop thinking at the idea of trying to take his magic back, which means in Alec's POV that Magnus chooses the magic and the immortality against a life with him... may be too many ideas.. can't wait for 08.15
Honestly Jace isn't worth it! IMO I'm sorry but this is his and Clary's fault! If they had just told everyone about what happened to Jace in Idris from the start they might have been able to figure out Jace was possessed a lot sooner and stop Lilith sooner too. Now because of their selfishness and lies! Magnus had to give up his magic, Alec got arrow thru chest and almost lost Jace for good, Simon had to suffer being responsible for blowing Clary up, jace killed imogen and just so much more bad shit happened all cause Clary and Jace were being dumbasses and didn't just tell he truth! Clace doesn't deserve Malec's undying love and support to constantly putting themselves at risk to save them, they don't do the same for Malec! Clary and Jace don't deserve them. I don't see Jace risking Clary's life to Edom to get Alec back! ugh! But with that being said I got give Magnus and Alec credit for being so selfless and choosing to put others before themselves that's why their my favorites along with Izzy, Luke and Simon. Its obvious Magnus is doing this more for Alec than Jace anyway he knows Alec needs his parabatai, but I like them both way more than Clace because of how much they are willing to sacrifice for those they love, I feel like they also do this for Izzy and Maryse too that's how much they love their family. Just wish Clary and Jace did more for Malec cause honestly at this point they should be busting their asses to do stuff for Magnus and Alec after what they just gave up for Jace! Jace should have Magnus bane tattooed on his damn forehead like Simon's mark of cain and being his dedicated servant for life after all this shit!
I don’t know how...but it seems that Magnus sacrifices too much for Alec, however, Alec sometimes shows really less emotion to Magnus...(just my own opinion) Btw, Malec is still my best cp of the year ❤️❤️❤️, and sr about my terrible English.
I really want to know..... Why Alec doesnt did it nothing for make Magnus happy?Like always Magnus was there to help Alec but "this" Alec did it something for thank Magnus? Now he is dying and gonna die in Magnus arms if i think
I'm not happy with Alec response here...yet again Alec chose Jace over Magnus...u guys can attack me all you want.. I love Malec but NOT happy with Alec right now
Ketsia Mayenne the only thing I loved was "mom said you'd make a dramatic entrance." I feel Alec can only make jokes when Magnus is around and behind that joke is that Alec is really really relieved Magnus made it back.

Well alec totaly cried the second time Magnus went to edom 😭😭
MALEC is perfection. ❤️
I love every single time Alec becomes worried about Magnus and weather he will make it out of alive or not one of my favourite things about him!!!!!!!
I don't understand why you're all hating on Malec this episode. Hate on me all you like, but just hear me out, would you...

I agree with both of you.
I totally agree with you too.
I totally agreee! On the contrary, I thought it was utterly perfect! Alec was probably too shocked to process.

Once again my problem with some malec shippers how is it accepted that saving jace is more important.
Magnus: Tell me Jace isn't worth it
Me: HE"S NOT!!!!
Seeing Magnus in pain hurts me every single time
That kiss though 💋 Malec have so much love for one another its so beautiful to watch i will miss them so much when im done with the show in a few weeks 😭

Mel Saint because it was directed by Matt Hasting. Sigh...
Mel Saint also I wonder what would happen if they let Harry and Matt direct a malec episode...
I think would put a lot Malec for us lmao. He is the Malec president after all.
anirai1516 True... then it needs to happen!
anirai1516 you’ll get no arguments from me, lol
*screams internally*

I agree... I think they should let us fans write the dialogue! Harry and Matt have such amazing chemistry! What a waste!
infin ity Alec could've said something like "Magnus, there's gotta be another way without putting your life at risk...", and act a little bit more protective. This is not what i expected i thought this will be more emotional
I mean Alec is not really an emotional person. The emotions he shows is in the little details
I just hate Alec sometimes....he needs to show magnus more love
Primrose Anderson IKR, poor Magnus
I don’t know how...but it seems that Magnus sacrifices too much for Alec, however, Alec sometimes shows really less emotion to Magnus...(just my own opinion)

Agreed:(
*Walks to SH writers*
HOW DARE YOU!
*Grabs Shotgun*
Alec was written poorly in this episode tbh
I really want to know..... Why Alec doesnt did it nothing for make Magnus happy?Like always Magnus was there to help Alec but "this" Alec did it something for thank Magnus? Now he is dying and gonna die in Magnus arms if i think
💑 malec 💏 3x10 👼🐺😈
I'm not happy with Alec response here...yet again Alec chose Jace over Magnus...u guys can attack me all you want.. I love Malec but NOT happy with Alec right now
agreed:(
Is Magnus using mountain ash
Other Warlocks are stupied not see that Magnus is betre warlock then them and devers be back as High Warlock of Brooklyn.😀
Lenezo is asshole and dont like that Magnus is betre then him at being Warlock. Plus i am glad Magnus won fight he had with Lenezo.
Disappointed with the Malec scenes in this episode
Ketsia Mayenne the only thing I loved was "mom said you'd make a dramatic entrance." I feel Alec can only make jokes when Magnus is around and behind that joke is that Alec is really really relieved Magnus made it back.
Saaame
I think this show is sucking ice cubes
The way they say asmodeus makes me cringe so hard 😫
Fuck You It makes me cringe how they say it wrong in Supernatural
Fuck You The devils name is Lucifer Morningstar and Lucifer is the prince of one of the sins
