  • A documentary made after the 50th Anniversary celebrations in 1999 showing attendees and archival video of the building of Australia's largest ever infrastructure project - the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric system.
Created from a VHS tape of the original broadcast on ABC TV. There are a few dropouts and the quality is not fantastic, but still watchable.

Thanks for the upload. Makes me proud of our country's engineering achievements. Hopefully the dedication can be applied to correcting some of the unforeseen issues caused by the Snowy Scheme

Awesome project built by people who took the chance to escape war and oppression and made a life for themselves in Australia. Always have had a lot of respect for true refugees seeking a better life and who assimilated into our Australian way of life while retaining their own values and customs, which they willingly shared with us, without bringing their problems to this country. Can't imagine the hardships they left behind but we welcomed these immigrants with open arms and understood their trepidations. They in turn, appreciated the opportunity of a new, free life down-under and accepted our way of life, and we all got along very well together.

Imagine that no hearing or eye protection, worked there in 1978 for nearly 18 yrs, in Khancoban as a cleaner and later as an Linesman.

This project and its success just shows how stupid war is! The same people we were at war against came and helped build something that benefits us all.
