He actually did limited damage because his sight-lines were obstructed by structures. 0:07 hits long - see hit upper screen. 0:14 actually hit short into the ground but the shot must have skipped into the rear end of the APC which halts and catches fire. 0:48 shoots again, and hits the wall of the small structure 10 meters to his left. You can see the wall fall down. Russian APC's are firing wildly not knowing where the Ukrainian tank is. Some Russian soldiers must have dismounted. 0:54 Russian soldier on the road fires an anti-tank missile, but he hits the building to the left of the Ukrainian tank. Rest of the video is of Ukrainian artillery strikes on this convoy. So, not exactly a Michael Wittmann moment at Villers-Bocage, Normandy, but seeing how this lone Ukrainian tank apparently has no infantry support it is a courageous ambush.

The Ukrainian tank commander 21-year old Nazar Vernigora and all the tank crew lived to tell the story. Nazar Vernigora was a cadet at the Ukrainian military academy when the war started. He has now been promoted to lieutenant and commander of a tank company.

Indeed it seems he hit only a single vehicle, but the sheer balls to do it is impressive. Also they weren't alone as we can see from other parts of the footage. There were people in the buildings throwing crap and shooting(I assume) at the russians.
The BMP's are strangely light in color, looks an awful lot like the Ukrainian digital camo pattern. Russian vehicles are single color green/dark green. No visible Russian letter markings either. Could be that the tank was Russian..
I was a US Army anti-tanker during Desert Storm. Not only does it take big balls to do this solo you have to have a really good idea of what you're doing to get away with this.

The Ukrainian tank misses few shots because it's in a defilated position. Between the two fences in front of him, (the straight one and the square one) the gunner couldn't see more than 10m of road, so he did see the enemies only the same moment he had to shoot. That's why the Russians had not been able to spot him also, and fire at random.

It's a MBT ambushing a column of multiple BTRs and one russian MBT. Those are defenseless unless they have some sort of ATGM ready when that T-72 I presume got destroyed. They got relatively thin armor and heavy machine guns at best.

I was a CM11 gunner in Taiwan mandatory military service. The Ukrainian tank crews really did there homework and job: 1. Tank crews can attack indirectly by using "bearing" concept like navy, to shoot your target without actully "aiming" them. Using drone to see the location of the target is a pretty good move and really inspiring me .And yes, get behind cover to shoot a moving target will compromise your accuracy badly, but your enemy can't see you either, so they had better chance to survive. 2. In armor school, our instructor said "when you take the first shot, you better take down the most imprtant or value target first, ", in this case that will be Russian MBT, and they did it !!! 3.The Ukrainian tank also deceived the enemy by leaving another track tail from the main road before getting into the ambush position, the second Russian armor vehicle's shooting direction was followed the another track tail when they saw that . That was professional !!!

The positioning of the Ukrainian tank is amazing. He's got the white house in front of him to limit the Russian's field of view coming down the road. Plus, the road slightly curves left, to allow him to target the sides of the Russian armor.

This is a situation where the drone should of been armed with ATGM to take out others or hit them with a laser target for a guided munition. But I don't think we've sent them that yet. That's what it's like working with outdated tech. More misses than hits.
Those misses were likely just AP rounds killing/wounding everyone in the back of the IFV's. Not every type of tank round explodes however as the AP rounds pass through armored steel it liquifies it and sprays it inside the compartment which is known as spall. Not to mention the compression and decompression caused will in addition burst ear drums, and knock people out. People just play a lot of video games and when a tank shoots a armored vehicle they expect it to explode gloriously. Not just drive off with a dozen dead bodies in the back.

Obviously he didn't take out the whole convoy - but this team still pulled off an ambush against superior numbers (at least 20 more tanks) and came out of it alive with a score of 1-0 Balls of steel on that entire tank crew. Well done.
There was a one tank, it was the Ukrainian MBT that you can see shooting at bottom. Then there was a three APC, that were Russian ones. Any of the APC has a cannon to destroy the MBT, the MBT has 125 mm cannon, and APC's has 30 mm autocannon at max, incapable to penetrate the MBT from the side or the front armor. The MBT commander was stupid to get stuck on such low distance engagement (< 100 meters), surrounded by the infantry (that seems to have destroyed that MBT afterwards) and had no change to escape. While only destroyed one APC engine (that you can see getting set on fire by fuel leak). There was no courage, there was no smartness or anything like that. Just a stupid position to be in the first place.

No tanks on the Russian side. Just personnel carriers shooting 20-30mm ammo in support of an infantry assault. No match for a tank. What you're not hearing about is this tank was destroyed soon after.
Immense-bravery. A lone Ukrainian T72? vs 14-16 Russian APC's & T72's. The Russian's have no idea where fire is coming from, and just return fire blindly in all-directions. I hope the Ukrainian crew made it out safely.

I'm sure there was some infantry protecting it in the nearby building. We can't see the full battlefield either, maybe other vehicles were here too. And don't forget the drones that catch those images. I'm sure that crews were aware of the Russians positions thanks to them. This tank was not alone, he was well supported. However, this does absolutely not negate their bravery. They are risking their lives for their country, home and families.

Russian infantry appears poorly-trained and equipped (no ATGM's), and the tanks/APC's just kept driving into the line of fire. About the only sensible thing the Russian infantry did was get out of their mobile-coffins/APC's.

The title is so freakin misleading. But kudos to the lone Ukrainian tank that expertly used the terrain to provide them significant cover and concealment from the Russian force. The Ukrainian tank crew displayed some very high level of competence and determination in the face of this relatively large Russian force. Too bad they (the Ukrainian tank crew did not have some supporting troops and a few "buddy tanks".

Agreed. He positioned himself in a great spot. Great cover while providing enough field of view to hit some targets and still have a manageable get away.
This is the difference between a well-trained crew and a bunch of conscripts - one took full advantage of the terrain to cover its attacks, the others just fired blindly hoping to hit something.
@Wilber Whateley - I'd have to agree...I noticed that rather than turn into the attacker and deal with it the Russian infantry was streaming away from the attacker....maybe some Divine intervention on top of it alongside the troops not understanding why they are there or what the point is. No heart can be overcome by discipline so that the function itself is it's own reward (thinking of the US marines, for example). Still, glory to the Ukrainians for defending their homeland against the barbarians and to this tank crew for putting themselves in what should have been a suicidal position ( though that seemed to me to be a very, very well chosen ambush position - I don't think the Russian column could see them from the road until *after* they were passed, note the Russian who shot the building in what appears to be an attempt to shoot at where he thought the attack was coming from ).

Russians had no idea where the shells were coming from even after multiple rounds. I think they are too scared of ambush and Ukraine tank hide itself too well.
The Ukrainian tank is in a position where if the Russian tank wants to locate it they have to be either in its direct line of sight or have to go out of the road to flank it.

Like the Russian Propaganda machine & their 3-5 day “special military operation” The equally highly skilled Russians trying but failing to encircle Kiev remains the biggest surprise of the invasion so far for those of us on this side of the fence though. Of course the Russians should be able to regroup and win even a small piece of Ukraine, as in terms of military budget it’s like a heavy weight against a featherweight but at this stage even that is not certain. Either way I’m sure the Russians won’t give back any territory it manages to eventually hold and as always the innocent civilians will lose and both sides will claim victory. Very sad for both the Ukrainian & Russian people that already understand nothing good comes from starting wars. Or “special Operations” for that matter.
Titles are often misleading. The column is not destroyed at all. One APC seems to have been destroyed and artillery shells fell completely short. It is brave for a single tank to take on a column indeed but results are meager in this case. If you're outnumbered, it is a very good idea to ambush retreating troops because their priority will not be to stand ground but to get out of there asap and you'll get away with it.

As a former tanker I can assure you: real tanks are pretty easy to handle. You select the right ammo,you move your joystick until you re on target, you squeze the trigger, you shoot. At this short range you dont even have to worry about ballistics,range finders and target tracking, its literally just point and shoot...and oh boy this dude aint good at it.

And the tank had its engine off so he had to aim with manual turret traverse which takes a certain ammount of skill. This was a perfect ambush.
Dude - at that range modern ammunition is basically just point and click. Even the earliest T64s are equipped with laser range finders that instantly set your gun to the targets range. Not that you need it at this range. It seems it fired a HEAT shell. While not as fast as APFSDS it still is basically an instant hit at this distance. I am seriously baffled how the tank managed to miss at this range! It could be that the parallax between gun and sight messed up his shot at this close distances. A modern FCS would compensate for that too and make missing a shot like that EXTREMELY hard! I am seriously baffled.
What is significant here: UA tank is hidden from sight of the Rusians in the convoy. Russians take hits. But no russian tank dares to get out the road and pursue and destroy the source of incoming fire. They all prefer to keep going on the road and do not 'risk' potential wider fight (they have no idea its just 1 tank). Russians are staying in the kill zone in the hope of getting away quickly rather than confronting the enemy. My conclusions: Russians are scared, no effective command on the Russian side

If you look closely, there are 3 wheelbarrows tied to the back of the UA T72.The crew members need these whenever they dis-mount, as it is the only way they can move around with sets of balls as BIG and solid as theirs! My hat is off to these guys, as they had to hand dig the hole to prepare their position and then sit in the tank until the Russians came down the road without any infantry support to cover all the areas behind and aside of their position. They had a great location picked out, as even if the Russians had a drone it was hard to see the tank. For all we know they may have been sitting there for hours on the off chance a convoy would even go past their ambush site?

Very looks like there are several Ukrainian tanks (Russians fire to another direction too). 3. This position is good if Ukrainian tank not alone, but it's too worse if he is alone. I love how Ukraine is being super smart tactically. They decide when and where they will engage. I also love how the Russian infantry is scrambling away from the Russian tank, with their tails between their legs. The distance to the Ukrainian tank and it's concealment means that the counter is not obvious for the Russian convoy. I don't believe any western tank crew would have the balls to do this though. Ukraine is a warrior nation, that's very clear by now...
These are textbook western techniques- though rarely can theory be put into practice like this. You need to be smart, well trained, patient and daring, and have strong fighting spirit. I've seen men of many nations this brave, but the execution is impeccable!

The BMP's are strangely light in color, looks an awful lot like the Ukrainian digital camo pattern. Russian vehicles are single color green/dark green. No visible Russian letter markings either. Could be that the tank was Russian..

I was a US Army anti-tanker during Desert Storm. Not only does it take big balls to do this solo you have to have a really good idea of what you're doing to get away with this.

The Ukrainian tank misses few shots because it's in a defilated position. Between the two fences in front of him, (the straight one and the square one) the gunner couldn't see more than 10m of road, so he did see the enemies only the same moment he had to shoot.
That's why the Russians had not been able to spot him also, and fire at random.

It's a MBT ambushing a column of multiple BTRs and one russian MBT. Those are defenseless unless they have some sort of ATGM ready when that T-72 I presume got destroyed. They got relatively thin armor and heavy machine guns at best.

I was a CM11 gunner in Taiwan mandatory military service. The Ukrainian tank crews really did there homework and job:
1. Tank crews can attack indirectly by using "bearing" concept like navy, to shoot your target without actully "aiming" them. Using drone to see the location of the target is a pretty good move and really inspiring me .And yes, get behind cover to shoot a moving target will compromise your accuracy badly, but your enemy can't see you either, so they had better chance to survive.
2. In armor school, our instructor said "when you take the first shot, you better take down the most imprtant or value target first, ", in this case that will be Russian MBT, and they did it !!!
3.The Ukrainian tank also deceived the enemy by leaving another track tail from the main road before getting into the ambush position, the second Russian armor vehicle's shooting direction was followed the another track tail when they saw that . That was professional !!!

The positioning of the Ukrainian tank is amazing. He's got the white house in front of him to limit the Russian's field of view coming down the road. Plus, the road slightly curves left, to allow him to target the sides of the Russian armor.
They used drone to find the best hiding spot for ambushing the incoming convoy. The use of the drone changes the way of battle.

That was one apc kill, and a few misses, not whole convoy. Still, it was a good shot. Good luck to Ukraine
This is a situation where the drone should of been armed with ATGM to take out others or hit them with a laser target for a guided munition. But I don't think we've sent them that yet. That's what it's like working with outdated tech. More misses than hits.
Those misses were likely just AP rounds killing/wounding everyone in the back of the IFV's. Not every type of tank round explodes however as the AP rounds pass through armored steel it liquifies it and sprays it inside the compartment which is known as spall. Not to mention the compression and decompression caused will in addition burst ear drums, and knock people out.
People just play a lot of video games and when a tank shoots a armored vehicle they expect it to explode gloriously. Not just drive off with a dozen dead bodies in the back.

Obviously he didn't take out the whole convoy - but this team still pulled off an ambush against superior numbers (at least 20 more tanks) and came out of it alive with a score of 1-0

There was a one tank, it was the Ukrainian MBT that you can see shooting at bottom.
Then there was a three APC, that were Russian ones.
Any of the APC has a cannon to destroy the MBT, the MBT has 125 mm cannon, and APC's has 30 mm autocannon at max, incapable to penetrate the MBT from the side or the front armor.
The MBT commander was stupid to get stuck on such low distance engagement (< 100 meters), surrounded by the infantry (that seems to have destroyed that MBT afterwards) and had no change to escape. While only destroyed one APC engine (that you can see getting set on fire by fuel leak).
There was no courage, there was no smartness or anything like that. Just a stupid position to be in the first place.
It doesn’t really show if that Ukraine tank survived or not…. Big assumption there, bud.

Immense-bravery. A lone Ukrainian T72? vs 14-16 Russian APC's & T72's. The Russian's have no idea where fire is coming from, and just return fire blindly in all-directions. I hope the Ukrainian crew made it out safely.

Russian infantry appears poorly-trained and equipped (no ATGM's), and the tanks/APC's just kept driving into the line of fire. The title is so freakin misleading. But kudos to the lone Ukrainian tank that expertly used the terrain to provide them significant cover and concealment from the Russian force. The Ukrainian tank crew displayed some very high level of competence and determination in the face of this relatively large Russian force. Too bad they (the Ukrainian tank crew did not have some supporting troops and a few "buddy tanks".

@Wilber Whateley - I'd have to agree...I noticed that rather than turn into the attacker and deal with it the Russian infantry was streaming away from the attacker....maybe some Divine intervention on top of it alongside the troops not understanding why they are there or what the point is. No heart can be overcome by discipline so that the function itself is it's own reward (thinking of the US marines, for example). Still, glory to the Ukrainians for defending their homeland against the barbarians and to this tank crew for putting themselves in what should have been a suicidal position ( though that seemed to me to be a very, very well chosen ambush position - I don't think the Russian column could see them from the road until *after* they were passed, note the Russian who shot the building in what appears to be an attempt to shoot at where he thought the attack was coming from ).

The Ukrainian tank is in a position where if the Russian tank wants to locate it they have to be either in its direct line of sight or have to go out of the road to flank it.

The corrupt and biased western media will never show the destroyed 1,500 Ukrainian tanks and armored vehicles. It's the reason why Ukraine wants western tanks to be delivered. They've already lost most ukrainian tanks.

The equally highly skilled Russians trying but failing to encircle Kiev remains the biggest surprise of the invasion so far for those of us on this side of the fence though.
Of course the Russians should be able to regroup and win even a small piece of Ukraine, as in terms of military budget it’s like a heavy weight against a featherweight but at this stage even that is not certain.
Either way I’m sure the Russians won’t give back any territory it manages to eventually hold and as always the innocent civilians will lose and both sides will claim victory.
Very sad for both the Ukrainian & Russian people that already understand nothing good comes from starting wars. Or “special Operations” for that matter.
Titles are often misleading. The column is not destroyed at all. One APC seems to have been destroyed and artillery shells fell completely short. It is brave for a single tank to take on a column indeed but results are meager in this case.
If you're outnumbered, it is a very good idea to ambush retreating troops because their priority will not be to stand ground but to get out of there asap and you'll get away with it.

As a former tanker I can assure you: real tanks are pretty easy to handle. You select the right ammo,you move your joystick until you re on target, you squeze the trigger, you shoot. At this short range you dont even have to worry about ballistics,range finders and target tracking, its literally just point and shoot...and oh boy this dude aint good at it.
@@MySipuli idiot as you can see he shoots through a 4 meter gap, he has to shoot the moment he sees the target and he even got a tank kill. I bet you wouldn't last 20 seconds inside a tank irl, this isnt war thunder nor world of tanks. And the tank had its engine off so he had to aim with manual turret traverse which takes a certain ammount of skill. This was a perfect ambush.
Dude - at that range modern ammunition is basically just point and click. Even the earliest T64s are equipped with laser range finders that instantly set your gun to the targets range. Not that you need it at this range. It seems it fired a HEAT shell. While not as fast as APFSDS it still is basically an instant hit at this distance. I am seriously baffled how the tank managed to miss at this range! It could be that the parallax between gun and sight messed up his shot at this close distances. A modern FCS would compensate for that too and make missing a shot like that EXTREMELY hard! I am seriously baffled.

What is significant here: UA tank is hidden from sight of the Rusians in the convoy. Russians take hits. But no russian tank dares to get out the road and pursue and destroy the source of incoming fire. They all prefer to keep going on the road and do not 'risk' potential wider fight (they have no idea its just 1 tank).
Russians are staying in the kill zone in the hope of getting away quickly rather than confronting the enemy.
My conclusions: Russians are scared, no effective command on the Russian side

If you look closely, there are 3 wheelbarrows tied to the back of the UA T72.The crew members need these whenever they dis-mount, as it is the only way they can move around with sets of balls as BIG and solid as theirs! My hat is off to these guys, as they had to hand dig the hole to prepare their position and then sit in the tank until the Russians came down the road without any infantry support to cover all the areas behind and aside of their position.
They had a great location picked out, as even if the Russians had a drone it was hard to see the tank. For all we know they may have been sitting there for hours on the off chance a convoy would even go past their ambush site?
Now I know why the Canadians said during training we learn from ukranisn as well.
1. I don't see that the Ukrainian tank destroyed the convoy. Yes, they hit 1 tank and maybe not-critical demaged another one.
2. Very looks like there are several Ukrainian tanks (Russians fire to another direction too).
3. This position is good if Ukrainian tank not alone, but it's too worse if he is alone. It's position for one time, for a couple shots...

I love how Ukraine is being super smart tactically. They decide when and where they will engage. I also love how the Russian infantry is scrambling away from the Russian tank, with their tails between their legs. The distance to the Ukrainian tank and it's concealment means that the counter is not obvious for the Russian convoy. I don't believe any western tank crew would have the balls to do this though. Ukraine is a warrior nation, that's very clear by now...
Makes me wonder how the Russians would fair against our A1 Abrams current gen tank..vs this convoy ?
These are textbook western techniques- though rarely can theory be put into practice like this. You need to be smart, well trained, patient and daring, and have strong fighting spirit.
I've seen men of many nations this brave, but the execution is impeccable!
