I love complementary especially for the integrated PBR, which looks absolutely AMAZING with sun and light reflexions, even without any resource pack installed
With complementary you can actually play the game without everything extremely foggy and shinny or extremely dark. Other shaders may look cooler or more realistic but this is my go to when I actually want to play the game.
Complementary shaders looks amazing because it just looks so much more natural and clearer. It looks more like they were trying to improve Minecraft's lighting rather than changing it.
for me the biggest difference are the atmosphere . BSl is amazing if u want atmospheric scenery especially in the night in minecraft while complementary is more to vibrant lighting, both are amazing but i like bsl more just bcs the atmosphere and the water is just mindblowing
BSL has this horrible film over it compared to other shaders. You can really see it in this comparison. Just switched from bsl to these and am very pleased.
I used to use BSL because it barely impacts performance and makes the game look better. That is until I learned about complementary shaders. It’s like BSL but way better and has reflections. It also makes things look 3D, and in VR it looks stunning!
this is true but bsl can be edited to in my opinion look even better than this, however the bsl shaders really can’t compete with the complementary shaders end dimension. The settings are shown here: ruclips.net/video/6uWQRwEhZSM/видео.html
I like how clear & vibrant Complimentary shaders look, but I wish the lighting closer to BSL tbh. Complimentary is often either too dark or too bright.
This is probably my new favorite Non-RTX shader. The default settings are just an improved visual style of vanilla, which is what I prefer over the realisic/drab effects most shaders have; However it has many more visual effects than shaders like Sildur's Enhanced Default. Additionally, the fog is incredibly striking while still somehow minimal. Lastly, the only settings I needed to change were to set the water to "vanilla-ish," turn off bloom, enable the vanilla sun and moon, and make it a bit brighter at night. Probably my only complaint is that you cant re-enable vanilla clouds, or at least have the option to make the clouds blocky like in SEUS. edit: oh yea, i also enabled colored shadows, made shadow distance same as render distance, and also enabled world curvature. it's like how an animal crossing world curves, except it's way more subtle
When I started using complementary, I can't look at normal graphics any more. The lighting is just amazing, even on deafult settings, it's allso good for performance, I usually have around 100 fps.
Complemtary shaders do everything And I mean everything Go into the shader options and let your wildest dreams come true From light shaders for performance To ridiculous over the top shaders with galaxy’s and world curvature
I personally prefer BSL's realisim-the fog blur makes everything look more... "homey" and atmospheric. While complementary has better underwater and glaciers, BSL has better water effects, atmosphere, and lighting in my op (Especially at night).
I’d say complimentary beats BSL in its terms and aspects because complimentary has the more realistic idea with lighting, shadows, ambience and overall vibrancy, I can state though that BSL definitely beats complimentary with water, it’s just absolutely looks beautiful with BSL and just has a fundamental change of aspect with the water effect, water ripples and waves. Overall both shaders are amazing!
I tweaked BSL into making it more natural but I'll try the complementary shaders ty One thing I really hate about shaders overall is how they make EVERYTHING shiny af instead of having it soft and natural lighting, worst thing is the annoying ass filter they always put
I still think BSL still the best in graphic side, the main value is its overall unity in it's atmosphere and it's a bit less contrast. But even how much I love that, I do know that BSL is super duper heavy
While BSL often seems too dreamy/realistic, Complementary is realistic but not overkill with the dreamy bloom - unless you go in the nether. Lights clipping all over the place - while BSL also doesn't do the best job (unless you like more nether fog than even vanilla has, which you can't turn off by the way). Under water I clearly prefer BSL over Complementary as the latter puts a way too heavy blue tint over everything - and I certainly prefer the clearer view of BSL... at least in the clip shown. It gets much less clear the deeper the water gets. In the End it's the same issue as in the Nether - BSL uses way too much fog (which, again, you cannot turn off) while Complementary completely clips the highlights. And that's how it keeps going - BSL puts everything into a way too dreamy setting (sure, that's personal preference) while Complementary terribly blows out light sources. Also, complementary has no clouds unless you're at the End? I haven't tried Complementary personally so I don't know if it offers settings to remove the blue under water tint or to dial down on the light saturation to prevent all that clipping but since I've already a customized version of BSL, I guess I'll be sticking with that for now... but I will give Complementary a try sometime. And who knows... if it has the settings I need, I might switch.
Revisiting the video I find that my preferences have changed a bit - at least regarding the water tint. And I'm almost certain that the frozen ocean footage was mixed up - it's the only time Complementary has more fog than BSL. And as kepler said there's setting I guess for the next world I'm running Complementary for a change. I just came to like it making more subtle changes to how the game originally looks compared to BSL.
