I had the same code in my Buick LeSabre hard shifts and slipping when accelerating from a stop all I did was remove the transmission pan take off the accumulator and installed a trans go shift kit for $50 put in new fluid and filter it drives like a new car
Hi Gary, thanks for this video. I'm attempting my first rebuild of 4t65e for an xc90. I'm trying to watch as many videos before tearing it down. Yours is one of the best.
@@GaryFerraro Trans doesn't work in D, but just barely moves when shifted to manual (+/-). Reverse works. Its a broken forward band. I opened pan and it had a chunk of metal and lots of debris around magnet. I could wiggle the band from hole inside the pan.
Transmissions look so complicated. I guess thats why they pay you the big bucks! I had to P1811 code. took the side plate off, and changed out the pressure control solenoid amongs the shift solenoids, and a shift kit for good measures. Ive read that it could be many things that might of gone wrong. Worn clutches, worn accumulators, valve body..even the MAP sensor. If I missed anything please add to my list. I hope I caught it time becuz after I did the repair No code. I dont really drive my Buick much. Its more like my project car. Take it out for drives from time to time. thank you for the great videos.
Why doesn't anyone publish a video of assembling a 4t-65e? All the videos on you tube are of breaking it down? I would love someone to publish a rebuild start to finish in at least 1080p.... 4K would be allot better though
I was just thinking about that myself. Then it occured to me that all you need to do is watch the video backward or In reverse to reassemble. It amazes me that he can remember where all that stuff goes without marking it. Or placing it in order. And it was a nice teardown Gary.
Alot of the 1811 codes I get I just install a new EPC with the trans in the car and they are good to go. I can see a customer being upset though if you swap a solenoid and charge them and still have the issue. Nice teardown video ftw.
+m ph Yes, the epc solenoid can cause this code, especially upto 2002, they changed the solenoid in 03. The early epc solenoid i turn the adjuster screw in 1/8 turn before i install it.
To Michael D, I have no idea what happened to your comments, I can't find them. The reason why it was shifting hard on the 1-2 shift is because the computer was adding 30psi of pressure to make up for the slip it had from the worn 2nd clutch pack, these clutch packs come loose from the factory and when they wear out get way to much clearance.
Hi Gary. Played with the scan tool today on my Lesabre got the following results: 1-2 shift time:.28 sec. 2-3 shift time: .35 sec. 3-4 shift time: .30 sec. The 1-2 tap cells were: 4:21.76, 5:23.01, 6:18.25, 7:17.25, 8:11.75, 9:14.75, 10:14.75. The 2-3 tap cells: 4:12.5, 5:20.01, 6:19.26, 7:20.01, 8:15.00, 9:15.75, 10:15.75.
I have noticed that 4t65e from behind 3800 engines seem to all have the blue paint stripe as seen at 35:58. It must have been something they did to make them easy to id on the assembly line
Sir,2011 Ford F 250 had transmission problem..We tried to drive about 35 mph.It changed to neutral. We cannot drive more than this speed. We tried to to change the valve body..I was same. We tried to rebuild but all of the parts were good. What do you think the problem. By the way, would you mind , to tell your location?
@ 28:12. I have a leaking seal where the axle goes in. I read somewhere that not only is there a seal, but there is also an O ring behind it. I couldn’t find it in the diagram. What causes the seals failures and problems I read about in regards to leaks
Nice video I have a 2007 Chevy Impala 5.3 ltr with 140,000 miles that had almost black transmission fluid. I changed all the fluid (not flush) just disconnected trans line and let the T- fluid escape. I filled accordingly now it shifts real sluggish. You can floor the engine and the car just slowly spools up going forward. Any ideas whats causing this? Thanks
+stuzman52, I will try in the future, I can only film very early in the morning or on saturday, the shop is busy all the time, but i will do my best. Thanks for Watching. Gary
Excellently Explained🎉😂, Gary am slipping on the forward only, and if i baby back on gas at take-off won't slip at all. My question is i'd like to have all replacement parts ready at tear down. Is there someone you would recommend?
hey great job i got a trainy just like this one she say it would not let her go over 50 miles she pulled over no reverse or forward wat well cause that scenario!!!
First make sure the axles are in, make sure the car holds in park. If ok, check the fluid level, make sure its not overfull. Do you feel any engagement at all?
You are exactly right about the coast band. My 2007 Chevy Impala will only go in reverse and in first. I dropped the pan hoping it was a quarter inch line broke. And the end of the coast band what the little horseshoe on the outside of it is laying in the pan. Any advice? What would I have to do to replace just the coast band?
lol, after chatting with u I really wont know exactly what I have, so I guess before I mess up all my soft parts, I'll get the one out the car to be sure, I had concerns if a transgo kit would conflict with performance once you adjust the clutch pack clearances
+Adrain Branch I honestly think it wont affect anything. One of the main reasons why i tighten up the 2nd clutch alittle is beacuse if the person is heavy on the gas pedal and the clutch pack clearance is on the high end but within range it may flag the 1811 code. Becareful of what you get, smart to take yours out first, count the sprockets and the final drive, also make sure the pitch of the gear is the same on the final drive as well. The EPC solenoid changed i think in 2003 so watch that as well. Gary
Very interesting! Exellant job. I just bought a 2003 lesabre and just turned 100,000 miles and noticed that from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd gears, it hard shifts, (kinda jolts into gear) and only when driving about 15 minutes and on. Tried some shift treatment but still there. No engine lights are on in dash. Help!! Thank you.
Thanks for the video. I wish I had seen this when I needed to do my transmission. (Luckily it was just solenoids). Like a previous poster mentioned, if you could do one on reassembling (when it's available) that would be great.
Thanks for the video. I see you are still somewhat active in the comments so I thought I'd describe my issue. I have an '07 Buick Lucerne with this trans, and it starts shifting hard from 1-2 and 2-3 when (and ONLY when) I get stuck in a start&stop traffic jam, and resets only after I turn off the car. There are no lights on the dash. Could you provide an educated guess as to whether this is a P1811?
very possible could be, that code may not turn the light on but do you know Anyone with a scan tool like a snap-on or autel. I would need to see the numbers in the T.A.P Cells (Transmission adapt pressure)
Thanks Gary. I have a 2002 Monte Carlo 3.8 engine car with this trans and the dreaded 1811code. Bought it new. I know there are a lot of upgrades for this trans by now. Years back Idid the GM bulletins for this when the car had about 28,000 miles on it, it helped some but now the trans needs to come out, ( 92,000 miles ). If I have questions on the updates and where to buy quality parts do you think you can help?
Hi Gary good video thank you my question iswhen I'm driving 10 to 15 mi an hour in 3rd gear and I dropped the shift from 3rd to 2nd, it bangs really hard into 2nd. I just had the transmission rebuilt for months ago and it does it ever since. It also shudders once in awhile from 40 miles an hour or. I have the 4t65e in my Buick Lucerne, Would appreciate any help thank you
Strange I didn't have any codes. Just would slip from a stop until 1st would engage. Basically couldn't leave a stoplight without chirping a tire. Then all through first sounded like grinding but not slipping. He said planetary is fine, but something about a hub wore through. Im not sure what he means
Thanks for the great video. I have done a number of transmissions over the years but never the 4t65e. I have an 02 Lesabre and there is no forward or reverse. Pump works as when it is running the fluid level drops to the normal range on the stick. I pulled the pan down to look and found some ground up metal and some sort of needle bearings that are about 1" long 1/16th diameter. What part would that come from. Trying to get an idea on what hard parts I might be in for. Thanks!
If you have no foward or reverse, you may have a problem with your input clutch or sprag, both of these items are on in foward and reverse. Do you hear any noise coming from the trans when the car is in foward or reverse? If you like you can e-mail me pictures of what was in the pan, my e-mail is gsferraro@yahoo.com. Gary
I have a 4T45 E in my HHr that I replaced with a wrecking yard trans not long ago. The torque converter was starting to shudder, and it was making a noise similar to wheel bearing hum. I replaced both bearings, but still had the noise. After replacing the trans, my noise went away. Do the final drive bearings cause problems in these trans?
on this transaxle can you replace the differential only (in the car) ? no codes, trans pulls fine, no slipping, or hard shifts just a growling from passenger side differential area.
I have a bad drive line vibration at highway speeds. I changed the drive axle, rebalance the tires and rotated them, changed the motor mounts but the vibration persists. Could this be a bad torque converter or a worn bearing. Car has 246,000 miles on it with original transmission but still shifts great and goes into overdrive fine.
It's still there with my foot off the gas. I shifted to neutral and it's still there also. The vibration permeates the entire car but there's no steering wheel shake. There's no brake pulsations. I was thinking bad front struts. There was a broken spring in the rear. Thanks.
Nobody ever talks about the thrust washer arrangement. 50 videos on this transmission on RUclips, maybe more, not one of them talks about the thrust washer arrangement.
Hi i have an 08 impala and transmission didnt go forward even if accelerate as if is on. Neutral and also on d3 but worked fine in d2 and reverse. i opened it and bands where not broken but where alittle wear due to it looking like it burn with the drums.
Jesus Rodriguez If reverse works ok has to be something with the band or maybe the servo piston. Look at the band make sure it's not cracked where the piston applies it or where it's anchored in the case
Hi Gary, great video. Hey, I have a 05 Impala with a 4t65 - E transmission with the identical issues of hard shift between 1st and 2nd and a P1811 code same as you indicated in this video. Deciding on whether to have it overhauled, replaced or time to move on to a new car. Where is your shop located? I think I may be local to you and would like to bring mine in for an estimate.
@@GaryFerraro Yes, I have a home in Floral Park. Do I need to make an appointment prior to coming in and can you provide me an address and phone number of your shop.
Love this, I’m about to tear down mine. I have an 06’ impala SS and had the p1811 and the p742 code show up. I yanks hard in 4th and when coming to a stop it vibrates and sometimes shuts off if i drove it for a while. Once heated it shifts harder and just stop all together shifting in any gears until I let it sit for a while then it’s back driving. I figure tearing it down would get me to where I need to be but is it really needed in my case? Or is it my axle and torque converter that’s causing the issue? I did have a broken lower engine mount as well, could that have caused it? Thanks
1811 usually worn clutch packs in 2nd and 3rd. P0742 code can be tricky, a lot can cause this code to show up, this is internal to the trans as well. Don't think the engine will cause this but i would change it and get that fixed
question to poster of this video- what would make a 4t65e input shaft stator splines to be worn down, or strip off ? I found one that the stator splines were half worn off.
for some reason the trans shops in this area don't want to change just the stator. they want to talk me into a complete $2100 trans rebuild and install job- or refuse the job. the problem with the 4t65e is this, the rebuilders are using them as an excuse to charge 2x-3x what a transmission rebuild is really worth.
Hey Gary, Do you know if the cv axle bearing is pressed in from the inside? I'm not wanting to tear the trans apart to press in a new bearing. Please respond
Thanks for the video! Recently I changed the pressure control solenoid, both shift solenoids, and the tcc valve in my 2011 impala tranny. It fixed the delayed/long shift that I was experiencing accelerating from a stop. The problem I’m having now is it shifts/slams hard in to every gear now. I also hear a slight whining when starting the car up cold. I had the pcm/tcm reprogrammed at Chevy. any advice where I should start looking next to correct the problem? It’s almost like there is too much pressure in the line. Thank you in advance!
hi thank you for sharing your knowledge i have a p0741 on an 09 impala do you recomend replacing the torque converter and seal ? will it fix issue car drives fine thanks
That may not fix the problem, you could have a valvebody issue, a Lock-up solenoid problem, there are rings on the drive sprocket that seal converter oil, the sleeve goes bad and the oil leaks causing this code as well. Can you see live data on your scanner?
@@aurelioaparicio7854 look at TCC Slip(the slip will be rpm) but you have to wait till the converter is commanded on, in the data look for TCC % and TCC slip, when the TCC % is at 100(fully locked on) Let me know what the slip is. It should be under 10 rpm
I have a 2002 regal LS, vin K, it started having trouble shifting into 2nd when at oper temp but other shifts were normal 2-3,3-4 no slippage anywhere So I changed the 1-2 and 3-4 shift solenoid, filter and fluid . NO change . Now it wont shift into 2nd it will hang between 1st and 2nd if I go fast enough in 1st or go into 2nd for an instance but goes back to 1st or hangs between 1st and 2nd almost instantly any ideas?
I have a question. I have no reverse and I suspect that I did not line up the reverse servo pin with the reverse band hole. Would I be able to put the reverse servo in the reverse band correctly without having to disassemble the transmission?
@@GaryFerraro Yes I did put it in the anchor correctly. But I didn't know that it would line it up automatically with the pin. Assuming the servo is in correctly and that's not the problem, what else could it be?
@@tonythegreate5287 The input clutch and sprag are on in forward and on in reverse, if you have good forward it would eliminate that, only thing left is the reverse band or piston. Question, does the car move forward in neutral or is neutral ok?
Mr Ferraro appreciate your video , but as i temp my build with that code, Do u still put in a transgo kit, if you use the alto spes to raise the drum clearances or is one fix better than one thank-you Adrian
+Adrain Branch Hello, I do not use a transgo shift kit on this unit, i usually install one oversized steel in the 2nd clutch to bring up the clearance(sometimes 2 but 1 usually does the trick)also make sure you change the EPC solenoid. What year is the car your working on?
Nice video Gary my girfriend 02 Buick century is shifting hard when is hot shift smooth when is cold i hear can be the EPC SELENOID sorry for my ignorance but how i can pull codes from the transmission? is so weird the car have 133,000 and oil was change it on time
+Melvin Santiago Fisrt thing to do is to get the car scanned for codes, to see if any are present. You will need a good scanner like a snap-on scanner. If there are codes, that could be the reason for the hard shifts. The code will give some direction on what to do. Gary
I have 2 codes coming from my transmission. P0136 and P0756. I changed the O2 sensor and the 2nd to 3rd gear shift solenoid but the trans is still not shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Can you help me Gary?
hello gary I"m going to rebuilt one of this any recommendation of what should pay atention. i going to put a torque converter, overhaul kit, filter, should i put a shift kit? any bushings? or all of them? Is a 05 uplander the car has only first, it won"t shift.
If the car only has first, the 2nd clutch may be bad(2nd clutch is on in 2nd,3rd,and 4th. Clutch clearance is very important for 2nd gear, and 3rd, to loose it will produce the 1811 code, there are oversized steels available for 2nd clutch i would put one in and the rest regular steels, change the frictons in 3rd, they should be onesided. the input speed sensor goes bad too, change that, its located in the channel plate. Bushings, i only change the extension bushing, the rest are usually ok, i have never used a shift kit in this trans. If the 2nd clutches are bad, change the molded piston
I’ve had a few of these transmissions, and after the engine/trans is warm. If I let it idle it will give the firm upshifts Do you think a aftermarket transmission cooler would help
Anyone know where the pressure control solenoid is located? And where the Turbine shaft input speed sensor is located? My 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo will downshift to 3rd after cruising on the highway for 10 minutes. I'm getting two codes with my scan tool. P0717 and P0748.
This is a great video. This will help me out a bunch. I rebuild trans for Ford and have no service information other than a ASTG book. I have the 1811 and high line pressure. I'll probably tear down another GTP core I have first before pulling out the trans in the Lesabre. I realize there is a final drive ratio difference,
Can u test the solenoids with unit intact and first to determine if solenoids r bad and is it more likely with the 1811 error code means parts of gear box more likely worn?...if solenoid shows up first, better to replace solenoid or have trans rebuilt?...
MrBiGHacC The 1811 code means something is worn out, most of the time its because the clutch packs are worn, other reasons for the 1811 code are a internally worn EPC Solenoid or a worn boost valve. To answer the question about checking the solenoids with the unit intact, the only thing you can do is ohm them at the case connector, but if you have an internally worn out epc solenoid it still may ohm ok. If a solenoid code shows up, it really depends on what code it is to determin what direction to go, you have eletrically generated solenoid codes and you have solenoid performance codes. A solenoid performance code is more hydraulically generated if the computer sees a wrong ratio for the gear commanded. An eletrically generated code is solenoid, wire or computer. As far as the 1811 goes, i had one case with a bad epc solenoid, all others trans just worn, never had a boost valve and sleeve issue. Gary
No...the metal hammer can be used more lightly due to metal to metal shock vibration whereas a rubber mallet takes more force to remove it leading to the pan flying off due to excess force to compensate ...worry not for pan damage its steel
Hi, sir, we have the problem with 2006 Toyota Sienna . When we start driving it shift OK but drive at high way about 20 minutes it`s no shifting at all. We have already changed valve body three times. It has same problem. What would be the problem ,sir?
Ok, Sounds like the filter is clogging up, as a test, when this happens and the car stops moving, shut the car off for about 2 or 3 minutes, start it up again and see if it can move,( you may be able to drive a few blocks).
No code, sir . The car stop shifting and no moving but engine running. We asked somebody they said valve body issue. We hanged valve body but same problem
Good morning my name is Bernard I live in homestead Florida and I just watched your video on 4t65e transmission teardown.. my question is a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and I take a transmission out of a 2005 Impala SS and put it in my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix and now I'm getting a p1810 code when the transmission won't shift and I know for a fact that the transmission that was in the Impala SS didn't have any issues whatsoever because I drove it myself it was my car any ideas I still have the computer from the Impala SS
Its probably in failsafe mode, if you clear the code what happens? Also, there are different sprocket ratios which also will throw codes but not the one your getting.
Gary Ferraro when I clear the code it does the same thing and on top of that if I drive it early in the morning when I wake up I think it shifts fine but after it warms up it won't shift the faster I go to higher RPMs go
Can all of this be done with the transmission still in the car? I just want to be able to remove the chains. There was mention of a snap ring on the torque converter. If i do not remove that snap ring, can the chains still be removed? I want to do the work in the drivers side wheel well with the cover removed. (For a Venture)
Not a snap ring, its an o-ring, ive never tried it but it may be do-able. You may not be able to get the drive sprocket out do to the o-ring, but it may be loose enough to remove the chains. Gary
Hello, This code could be a few different things. First, its shifting hard because to defaulting to max line pressure. Causes for this code. Tcc solenoidvalvebody issues, such a worn out valvetrainsTcc release switch stuckProblems in transmission channel plate. and more...usually the trans has to come out to be overhauled. Are you in the new york area?
+Adrain Branch There are different units, im assuming you have the correct one, if the sprocket count or final drive count(tooth count) is wrong it sets codes. Did you get a trans to build by your vin number?
There no codes the reverse good only that i have to acelerate hard in the first it's like skits after that the trans drive good only happens in the low speed o when the van is the totaly stops really hard to take off thanks
+Abel Ruiz Just to confirm, have you cleaned it down and saw the leak coming from the cover, only reason why i ask is because its not common for it to leak there, the bolts are tight? By the way there is an o-ring that seals that cover
+Gary Ferraro yes i use a wire brush to clean the area! start the car let it run for 20 minutes i look again and it is leaking from that cover, and i wonder if its safe to remove it an get a new seal. Thanks!!!!!
Gary Ferraro I have a 1989 Regal GS I have owned for 23 years 246k on the original transmission! Always serviced but now when its cold it does not shift out of first gear unless I warm it up for a while. Once it finally shifts it shifts normally after that. I'm sure it's ready for a rebuild but what do you think is causing that a hardened seal?
Very well could be a hard seal, it may be in the 2nd clutch, the 2nd clutch is the driving clutch, that means without 2nd you will not have 3rd or 4th. Can't remember the last one i had in the shop
Gary Ferraro Thanks - where is your shop? Maybe I'll send you a 4T60 to use on your channel for a demo! 😉 Thanks for sharing your talents I enjoy your videos
Hello, I have had the p1811 code before even tho it has disappeared. Whenever I drive more than 20-30 miles, the transmission completely stalls. After sitting for a while (30 min), I'm able to start the car in Neutral and I'm only able to drive home using the 1 and 2 gears on the selector. Shifting into Drive and 3rd usually stalls the car. I have 97,000 miles. Help please?
does the car stall in neutral or only when drive is selected, does this problem happen when the car is cold? Gary Sorry for the late reply, i just came across your message.
+Steven Sapyak , sorry for the late reply, i would always put a banner kit in the unit, which consist of paper and rubber, rings, seals and clutches. I also py close attention to the clearance in the 2nd clutch pack, change all solenoids and sensors inside and a filter. Again sorry for the late response, i didnt know you wrote in. Gary
My 08 grandprix has po1811 dealer ship told me my shift silond going bad 1t2 3t4 shift but that was at 89,000 mile ago now it has 119,000 on it the problem go way when turn car off wait for few min then turn on start drive it way problem go way for 4 weeks
If the only code is the 1811, that usually indicates worn out clutch packs. If you know someone with a snap-on scan tool, look at the T.A.P(transmission adaptive pressure)cells, the computr is probably adding pressure to kep th trans from slipping and at a certain point it can no longer add and flags the code 1811
@@lawrencemeyers1212 Changing the shift solenoids will not help with this code. My e-mail is gsferraro@yahoo.com send me an e-mail and i will send you some info on this code(i should be able to find something)

Gary I haven't a clue about tranny's. So if I get a p1811 I must get it rebuilt? The transmission guy that rebuilt it 50k ago says it will drive out of it. please advise. poor boy with out $1880
+James Abbott It really boils down to a few things, either there is too much clearance in the clutch packs, this would make the shift long and drawn out at higher throttle openings, how to you drive, do you tend to get on the gas? the other problem could possibly be a bad epc solenoid. How does the car shift? Gary
+Adrain Branch 2003 i should have the updated EPC Solenoid, do you have a scan tool? because the shift adapts should be cleared after the job is done. Gary
have an issue with this same transmission will only go into reverse is strong and 1st gear and 2 gears are weak no drive just put a pressure sensor in it and still have the same issue any idea what it could be.
I had the same code in my Buick LeSabre hard shifts and slipping when accelerating from a stop all I did was remove the transmission pan take off the accumulator and installed a trans go shift kit for $50 put in new fluid and filter it drives like a new car

@Michael D Do you have a scan tool to view the T.A.P cells?

@ 28:12. I have a leaking seal where the axle goes in. I read somewhere that not only is there a seal, but there is also an O ring behind it. I couldn’t find it in the diagram. What causes the seals failures and problems I read about in regards to leaks
That seal is in the extension housing, behind the seal is a bushing, when the bushing wears out the axle lays down on the seal causing a leak

I have a 2007 Chevy Impala 5.3 ltr with 140,000 miles that had almost black transmission fluid. I changed all the fluid (not flush) just disconnected trans line and let the T- fluid escape. lol, after chatting with u I really wont know exactly what I have, so I guess before I mess up all my soft parts, I'll get the one out the car to be sure, I had concerns if a transgo kit would conflict with performance once you adjust the clutch pack clearances
Hi Gary, great work. Would you recommend installing a transgo shift kit in a perfectly working 4t65e to prolong its life ?
I honestly never installed a shift kit in one of these. Big problem with these is clutches wearing out causing the 1811 code
Shift kit fixed mine beautifully!
Definitely a shift kit will help with these units. Look up the reviews and forums . Best thing you can do!

I just had the transmission rebuilt for months ago and it does it ever since. It also shudders once in awhile from 40 miles an hour or. @@GaryFerraro no codes, thank you
Strange I didn't have any codes. Just would slip from a stop until 1st would engage. Basically couldn't leave a stoplight without chirping a tire. Then all through first sounded like grinding but not slipping. He said planetary is fine, but something about a hub wore through. Im not sure what he means
Hi Gary, love your work. Are these transmissions considered strong? What kind of torque are they rated for? Thanks
Thanks!

possibly planet carrier gears
I have a 4T45 E in my HHr that I replaced with a wrecking yard trans not long ago. The torque converter was starting to shudder, and it was making a noise similar to wheel bearing hum. I replaced both bearings, but still had the noise. After replacing the trans, my noise went away. Do the final drive bearings cause problems in these trans?
on this transaxle can you replace the differential only (in the car) ? no codes, trans pulls fine, no slipping, or hard shifts just a growling from passenger side differential area.
kerwin davis Not really the problem is the diff support is the ring gear. Trans has to come out for that
I have a bad drive line vibration at highway speeds. I changed the drive axle, rebalance the tires and rotated them, changed the motor mounts but the vibration persists. Could this be a bad torque converter or a worn bearing. Car has 246,000 miles on it with original transmission but still shifts great and goes into overdrive fine.
If you take your foot off the gas is the vibration still there? sometimes these things are very hard to find
50 videos on this transmission on RUclips, maybe more, not one of them talks about the thrust washer arrangement.
sorry about that

What can be wrong the bands.
Great video, how much would an overhaul cost on this transmission?
Don't think the engine will cause this but i would change it and get that fixed
question to poster of this video- what would make a 4t65e input shaft
stator splines to be worn down, or strip off ? I found one that the
stator splines were half worn off.
Hello, thats just normal wear, i see that sometimes
if a stator is half worn on the splines, can I run it ? how many miles would cause that much wear ?? or do I have to change the stator ??
If its half worn, i would change it, make sure you get a 4T65E stator, i think 4T60E is different
for some reason the trans shops in this area don't want to change just the stator. they want to talk me into a complete $2100 trans rebuild and install job- or refuse the job. the problem with the 4t65e is this, the rebuilders are using them as an excuse to charge 2x-3x what a transmission rebuild is really worth.
The trans has to be taken apart, thats probably why they want to do an overhaul
Hey Gary, Do you know if the cv axle bearing is pressed in from the inside? I'm not wanting to tear the trans apart to press in a new bearing. Please respond
Thanks for the video! Recently I changed the pressure control solenoid, both shift solenoids, and the tcc valve in my 2011 impala tranny.

I have a question. I have no reverse and I suspect that I did not line up the reverse servo pin with the reverse band hole. Would I be able to put the reverse servo in the reverse band correctly without having to disassemble the transmission?
No reverse is not common on this trans, when you installed the band, did you put the band into the anchor , then it automatically lines up
@@GaryFerraro Yes I did put it in the anchor correctly. But I didn't know that it would line it up automatically with the pin. Assuming the servo is in correctly and that's not the problem, what else could it be?

+Melvin Santiago Fisrt thing to do is to get the car scanned for codes, to see if any are present. You will need a good scanner like a snap-on scanner. If there are codes, that could be the reason for the hard shifts. The code will give some direction on what to do. Gary

any bushings? or all of them?
If the 2nd clutches are bad, change the molded piston
hello gary! for this 4t65e you mentioned the one of the 2nd clutch steel can be remplaced for another oversized to get a good clearance. right?
i look for in alldata, michelin, and there is no clearances availible.
Yes, oversized steel is available. 2nd clutch should be .050 to .070.. 3rd clutch should be .040 to .060. Very important
the 2nd clutch clearance is o.k but the the 3rd is about .085in.
how can i ajusted it?

I'll probably tear down another GTP core I have first before pulling out the trans in the Lesabre. I realize there is a final drive ratio difference,
1811 code do EPC solenoid and may have to tighten up clutch clearance, if your going to build let me know i can guide you with parts
Gary
Just curious. Would a rubber mallet be more ideal than the metal hammer used getting the pan loose?
No...the metal hammer can be used more lightly due to metal to metal shock vibration whereas a rubber mallet takes more force to remove it leading to the pan flying off due to excess force to compensate ...worry not for pan damage its steel

Ok thanks should I try Lucas trans fix
@@lawrencemeyers1212 I never like that stuff or any additives like that. Eventually that trans is going to need an overhaul. Do you know anyone with a snap-on scanner
Where are you located
Im in New York
What would make first gear slip?
Damon Taylor if it slips only in drive and not reverse the band may be broken. Fluid level ok
ok thanks
Gary I haven't a clue about tranny's. So if I get a p1811 I must get it rebuilt?
The transmission guy that rebuilt it 50k ago says it will drive out of it. please advise. poor boy with out $1880
+James Abbott What year car do you have? Gary
04 impala
+James Abbott It really boils down to a few things, either there is too much clearance in the clutch packs, this would make the shift long and drawn out at higher throttle openings, how to you drive, do you tend to get on the gas? the other problem could possibly be a bad epc solenoid. How does the car shift? Gary
OK I have a 2003 impala
+Adrain Branch 2003 i should have the updated EPC Solenoid, do you have a scan tool? because the shift adapts should be cleared after the job is done. Gary

have an issue with this same transmission will only go into reverse is strong and 1st gear and 2 gears are weak no drive just put a pressure sensor in it and still have the same issue any idea what it could be.
