He wasn't torn apart. He was great humoured about it.
Baiting the clicks... tried and true. It works. Worked for me, for example. That's why I'm here. 😃
@@R.Daneel I'm only here because I used a line similar then suddenly remembered the "mental breakdown" moment after a good 12 years 😂
Yeah the job centre line was pretty good
Nah, too cocky by half, massive ego.
He played the part of a loser really well for comedic ends - good sport!
I hate to say the obvious, but... well... I mean... he IS a Liberal Democrat
i hate to say this but he was fun grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I saw this at the time. I think Lembit understood the dynamics of the show and knew he would be given a bit of a hard time, so was prepared. They'd given Angus a hard time 4 years earlier when stories of his private life came out, so he knew he'd have an a former MP who'd just lost his seat / job.
The harmonica gag was so good
I get the feeling Jon Richardson would sooner starve than beg for money. Not because of pride, because he'd find it too uncomfortable
Lembit's Harmonica Solo.
Does anyone else think Paul looked genuinely worried about him for a second?
Lembit pulled that back brilliantly. Touche Mr.Opik.
Torn apart? He came out on top!
took it like a baws
true story... Mr Opik is now working as a dental assistant while taking part time courses to learn Chinese. he says he wants to work in the British embassy in Beijing (but has said he knows he won't be the ambassador)
@Jon Treasure It is, or rather "was", true. Google it. Now please leave my thread.
@@OfflineSetup Damn, coming back two years after you initially wrote that comment to correct yourself. You should be a journalist! I appreciate the dedication to the truth. If you happened to come across this video 3 years after you wrote it then still... good on ya
I remember losing it when he took the harmonica out!
He was UP for it 😂
'The Coalition' was a hoot 🤣
Lembit is now chairman of the parliament of Asgardia, which appears to be some kind of hippy space thing. I've read about it for an hour and I'm still not sure what it is
Unfortunately, Opik played it a bit too dead-pan for many to realise what a good sense of humour he has
I'd say he has a skill set for televised media more than the average MP. But humour?
Well played Lembit.
He wasn’t torn apart the took it like camp
Later that night while Jo Brand sat staring at her bookshelf of Feminist literature while eating her Findus meal for one and Hislop spellchecked his latest dissertation for Private Eye 'loser Lembit' poured himself a glass of wine and pounded a Cheeky Girl into the mattress
🤣🤣
Torn apart???
Shouldn't Jo declare her pro-Labour bias?
+berlinmitte10117 Why should she? Do other presenters declare their political bias?
I think he handled that really rather well.
Was that the one in which he pulled out a harmonica and started playing a horrid little tune, then pretended to beg ten pence for a cup of tea?
pan handled it well :p
Thats Tim Kaine?
an amazing sport really.
Perhaps he didn't care.
Politics aside for a moment, I thought Lembit took it all very well and was actually entertaining.
I agree with most people here, he was a good sport about the whole thing.
The trouble with people like Lembit is that these days, seemingly genuine people like him are chewed up and spat out by the careerist politicians of today who only pretend to care, and bring politics into disrepute as a result
Shut up it’s a joke
@@hughmungus1235 nah it's true though, people who genuinely care and are genuine about and stand for their beliefs can't be bought, blackmailed or bribed so they're of no use, hence they get destroyed. Look what happened to Corbyn
I thought he handled it pretty damn well..he sounded like he was having a laugh with it to be fair lol.
He can obviously take a joke. There's no shortage of politicians who can't, so I say good on him!
Lembit Opik can take a joke you say, hmm... 🤔
@@therespectedlex9794Oh yes he can!
It backfired on the smug bugger Hislop.
Tbh, he tore himself apart more than they tore him apart...
Amazing how some people just sort of fall from public view really...I remember hearing Lembit Opik's name quite a bit at one time...now he is just gone! Why the hell could that not have happened to a certain mumbling, stumbling mop headed old Etonian that we all know so well who happened to come on this program a fair bit back in the day?
I did a bit of googling, seems like he’s flirting with the tories now… 🙄
He had his 15 minutes due to dating a few minor celebs and having an unusual name for a UK politician, it's pretty natural after losing his seat he'd gradually fall out the public eye.
My Mum and I know Lembit well. For all the mickey taking he gets, he is actually a really nice guy.
I bet your mum knows him well
Cheeky cheeky!
@@sandymack9345 LOL 😄
Threesomes?
Ian Hislop has been very bitter since The Communards split up .
Haha...fair play to the guy
Lemnitzer handled this really well so shortly after electoral defeat. Good on him. He talk it all in good sporting fashion.
I like how well Lembit sees the funny side on the jokes he is getting from everyone.
Didn't look "Torn Apart" to me, he looked like he handled the whole thing perfectly well.
Rolled with the punches nicely though
Lembit was a really good sport here, I thought. He obviously figured out that he was going to be ribbed mercilessly, and decided to play along with it (the harmonica at the end was a great gimmick).
Say what you like, but he's a good sport.
0:27 Love Hislop's trap and the delivery of his return here
Can you explain that part? That's the only exchange I don't really get in this clip
He took it very well . Indeed, he added to the fun. Well done.
ole Lemp Biscuit plays a mean harp, seen him In a doorway outside w h Smith on the Strand recently throwing out his cover of rollin'
Ian hislops never had one or maybe even both of the cheeky girls, grinding themselves on his love truncheon.
The timing and tone of Hislop’s “it’s quite funny” is really good.
Lembit is one of those few politicians that are good sports when they lose. Like Clegg
He did well
'The job centre cancelled', Paul Merton really is the best
he was a good sport
I love the fact he took a freaking Harmonica on just for one joke.
Lembit Opik much funnier than the two bores who are on week in week out.
Oh yeah I remember this lembit bloke
HAHAHA Did you stay up for Lembit !
Lembit owned Paul and Ian. Good on you Mr O.
He handled it very very well
He certainly was not torn apart!
He's a good egg is Lembit.
He wins anyway cos Cheeky Gitl
He was servicing a cheeky girl for years..respect..🚀
Fair play to him, he took that well!
What was the world like in 2010 when this had to happen? I was under a rock.
Get back to supercutting mock the week
Mayzerify Oh calm down. Gotta wait until Series 15 is done for that one.
I was just kidding :(
In 2019 the old days of 2010 seem like such innocent times. Politicians able to laugh at themselves? O.k not that common even then, but at least some of them thought that they had to keep up the pretence of some semblance of humanity. We thought they were wankers back then, but by today's standards they were statesmen.
Jacob Rees-Mogg vs Lembit Opik This week on VELOCIRAPTOR WEEK on Discovery
Lembit played that brilliantly
I love it when Ian takes guests to task
Zero bullshit here. I met Lempit in a pub near St. James park and he was promoting for a nightclub, trying to get my friends and I to go. Which we did, so I guess he did a good job but its pathetic that's what he does now.
Lembit was pretty funny! Great sport
Man I've never seen someone who's such a good sport.
He was a really good sport. 👏
He was great in this, one of my favourite episodes
Husband of the Cheeky Girls...
I remember this, when BBC was still funny.
He did take it well
Good on him for rolling with it. The modern Tories are far more humourless about being mocked.
Montgomeryshire is a very safe Tory seat now - Tories got 58% of the vote - 35.5% more than the Lib Dems. It was inevitable he would lose that seat as the country become more and more conservative over time.
And no mention of The Cheeky Girls?
He'd been hammered by the press his entire political career and he knew he'd be hammered here. I thought he was remarkably well sporting about it all
He was always pretty cool about having the piss taken out of him, not many politicians can say the same.
I'm confused, what happened?
Stephen Barlow he was an mp who lost his seat in the 2010 general election
Yea... I think Lembit kept his own really well... '...can we get on here. I have an appointment at the job centre' 🤣
Seems like a good guy.
I agree, he dealt with, what must have a difficult situation, charm and self depreciation.
Lembit played it for laughs, but the laughs were all at his expense. Like watching someone join in with bullies against themselves.
If Lembit ever gets revenge on Paul and Ian.......do you think he'll actually end up laughing on the other side of his face?
;-)
Very good. X
Lembit was at least a good sport and took it on the chin and even had a bit of fun with it himself.
Played well sir.
He was great!
Legendary banter m8
well played sir
haha fair play he took it well i'll give him that, respect.
I don't think the term 'click bait' existed when this video was posted.
I hate Ian Hislop. Prefer that Lembit
Didn't he date a Cheeky girl? Bizzare!
Lembit joined in the piss take, good humoured throughout.
funny
This was a classic moment in British TV. Always brings a laugh.
at least he got to go home to Gabriela Irimia for a while there...
Grilled? he got the biggest laugh when he started the mouth organ
What was his scandal again?
Thanks for posting.
hislop loves Phillip schofield
He did a cheeky girl, spect
