Domestic travel demand is higher than international so you should have all UK cities route through London as it will be the highest demand between UK cities

@Livio Draghi Are you sure it works like that? Isn't it just the same price as if they had flown a direct route?

One way I've been able to save money in the game is by having an international hub with the capital for every country and then have 1-10 interconnected domestic hubs (depending on country size and location of cities) so it funnels traffic to specific regions. For example, I put all domestic travel in Germany through Frankfurt and connect it to Berlin; Birmingham and Glasgow are hubs that connect to London; Lyon, Nantes, and Rouen connect to Paris etc. This puts less pressure on the capitals since they focus solely on international flights and a few of the larger domestic cities. It also means that domestic travel can largely avoid all of the incoming and outgoing international travellers which alleviates the pressure on the domestic routes from capital cities later in the game. This method saves a lot of money over time since every route is not going to their country's capital and is going to a large regional hub that would be closer in proximity. Using this method, I've been able to unlock at least 50 countries on most of my games, with a fair few reaching 75-90 countries if I'm lucky with the scenarios. The only downside I've encountered using this method is when city's have festivals later in the game, it gets expensive to put 2-3 additional superjets on small regional routes to meet the demand when 40k+ people want to go to a single city meaning I'm most likely unable to advance to any further countries due to the enormous cost of upgrading a route for single use.

A strategy that I feel like helped me out a bit was using small countries that have little to no cities as your hubs because they don’t get bogged down with domestic flights. Also, It’s helpful to make more flight connections than you think because the real pinch point of the game is the limitation of flight and airport capacity. Love watching you play. So glad they updated all countries mode.

I think I'm seeing similar ideas in the comments here but I think having increasing branches from the major cities into a couple minor, that branch to the rest of the minor ones, would be the best idea. That way too if the scenario you were talking about happens, instead of creating 15 new lines you can just make 2 or 3 and still have all 15 connected.

The new balance update is great, makes it possible to complete but still very much not a free win. I got pretty far but ended up petering out and losing by not being able to afford the next country with something like 11 countries left due to some overspending and inefficiencies. Excited to see how you do in this series.

I think you had the right idea to open up the US early in your run. That is what I did in my recent run and it brought in a lot of money. I was able to complete all the countries with relatively little trouble. I also opened up China, India, Japan, Mexico, and Indonesia ahead of the country timer because I wanted large population, long distance countries to drive my income even higher.

Definitely agree that a few hubs in China is the way to go. In my playthrough I had Berlin going to 4 hub cities in China, as well as Tokyo and Osaka. Keep a look out for the superjet routes that are consistently red, and check the top destinations from the airport and add a new route in direct to that / near it (e.g. I also ended up with about 8 to the Americas). Could also work nicely having Berlin/Paris/Rome all with their own direct China/India/Americas flights so no one airport has too much going through it.
Also found pushing by buying countries out of order to get China, India and the USA in early to work. The long routes are significantly cheaper to build at that point, and the money generated quickly pays it back, giving you the freedom to buy more countries out of order to be able to better place hubs.
Once you get later in the game, if any destination has something going on to make it more popular I ended up building a direct route to it even if it was otherwise a smaller airport. Also would say 'no' to discounting flights to keep demand the same since a reduction in demand helps get some of the larger airports back under control. Last tip which I found useful, is that since routes get so expensive later, if a country ever gets blocked out because of an outbreak, it's easier to just upgrade all the airports that relied on it a couple times instead of building new routes, and they'll easily survive until the country is back online.

I’m trialing use of Lyon as the primary hub for France.. close proximity to southern France ports, Switzerland and northern Italy. Frankfurt also seems more central for Germany, providing for shorter connections to lots of domestic ports. Ideally, I’d like city to city to be less than 3 hops (domestic to hub, hub to hub, then hub to destination) to try to minimize travel time and hopefully increase income. Sometimes I create small domestic hubs, for example around Seville in southern Spain, before connecting to Madrid, or eastern Ukraine before connecting to Kiev. Belgrade also seems to be a good hub for the Balkans.

The UK is an interesting one. I get what you mean about connecting it to Paris. But London is a large city. It will have lots of traffic trying to head to it. So you're sending all of that traffic to Paris when you do that.

Wouldn't it be best to set countries with only 1 or 2 airports as your main hubs since they don't have to worry about carrying passengers to small areas? The more individual cities you have leading into one place, the harder it will be to take all of the people out of the area since they all have to go through one place, but if you used countries with no local flights as your hub, they only have to focus on moving people who need to go really far
