There's a family who have just arrived today in Perth from the UK to start their new life here. Hubby will be starting his teacher's job next week I think. Just a day or two is bad enough when it's stinking hot. But a whole week for these Brits will definitely test them.
It is interesting to hear about immigrants experience. In 1970's and early 1980's I met many Brits in the construction and mining industries. Those who had families often connected to local society through the churches, particularly the Catholic and Anglican Churches. In those cases many brought their families out which often led to other extended family members coming out to Australia. It seems that the high cost of living is occurring in Western countries almost by design. Designed to impovish everyone?!
Maybe Adelaide would be a good target. It has a Mediterranean climate. Not tropical like Queensland. Not expensive like Sydney. Not hot and dry like Perth. For a roofer it might be a good goal.
Most Aussies see Alicia as A-leesha which is how Aussies who have that name pronounce it. BTW Essex accent is less pronounced than say a Yorkshire accent. So we dont really know all the areas in the UK.
Fellow Essex person currently living on the Sunshine Coast. Loving life here and very much intending to stay.
Very informative, we are about to move over hopefully too, so always enjoy hearing everyones experiences.
Great chat, thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it
42° here in Perth tomorrow. In fact, we've got a 6 day heat wave. Not a great time to be a roofer, regardless of where you're from.
