  • The Head of Sinbad in Utah's San Rafael Swell is the site of some of the most striking pictographs in the entire American Southwest! There are only a few ancient paintings here (on a couple of panels), but some of them are so vivid it makes it hard to believe they have been here for this long. The designs seem to be Barrier Canyon Style.
The site is located in southern Utah, about 40 miles west of Green River, Utah directly in the heart of the San Rafael Swell in the Head of Sinbad area. This is the southern edge of Locomotive Point, so this point of interest in the Swell is known as both Head of Sinbad pictographs and Locomotive Point pictographs.
Access: high clearance 4x4 (loose sand and spotty uneven terrain), or park along the way and hike to the site.
