I’m going to assume it was an employee or something because I’d assume Salem would be the big bad boss we’d have to deal with at the end. Unless you are right and Salem is gone and now we just have to deal with the corrupted mascots she created.
Salem might have something to do with the people who were taking care of the mascots. Mollie Macaw has the ability to repeat sentences she's heard before with one of them being "Get back in your cage bird." This was said by either an employee or Salem as in the minigame, there's a secret where Mollie is in a cage and interacting with it causes the game to glitch. Salem might be linked to an employee that used to work at the location. Another thing to note is that Rambely never mentions Salem. Ever. Either way, do not trust that skunk because even if she's really hot. Like really hot. *Super hot.* She's still evil.
If Salem never ends up getting a monster counterpart and is instead a human in costume pulling the strings of it all, that would be a pretty cool plot twist.
I've said this once in another video, and I'll gladly say it again: I think it would be cool if Salem were to be an Anti-Hero character where she wants us to trust her, but doesn't know how to actually work for it since she's so used to being an antagonist character, so she sort of just follows us from a distance and drops subtle hints of what we should be doing and generally tries to ensure that we don't do anything stupid when Rambley isn't watching us. But when we're up against a threat, she prefers to hide and watch from a distance because she doesn't see the point in helping us with that since, like I said; she's so used to being an antagonist that she doesn't know how to be friendly. And since, you know, the little arcade mini-game in Chapter 1 hints that Salem seems to dislike friendship.
That would be super cool, I genuinely love that idea- hopefully if Salem makes an appearance they make her somewhat like that (even if not I’ll probably still think she’s cool)
I genuinely see this as a possibility, in the game theres a blood splatter near her cut out that was destroyed, I really dont know if that helps but maybe the mascots went rogue and got her injured and she wants to undo her wrong doings
Im thinking either: A: Salem is secretly the main villain that is going against Rambley and trying to make Rambley go against humans [if one of the reasons for the shut down is rogue mascots.] Or B: Someone intervened with that section of the ride before we arrive at Indigo Park [post closure], and we might eventually encounter Salem in one of the chapters.
fun fact:when the robot mollie glitches it says “not rambley he hurt loyld” and my theory is that its not rambley..but a person wearing a rambley mask and hes the reason because of this
It never even went into use, so I doubt most people'd have access. Most likely most, if not all, of them were scrapped and the one we find is the last one left. Kinda grasping at straws here, but I do think most of the old costumes would be thrown away when not needed anymore, so it makes sense to me that the one that never had any use would also be thrown away as well
I have a theory about Salem. At the end of the Rambly’s Railroad section, Rambly says we got to meet *ALL* his friends (and Lloyd), implying that Salem was his friend too. Even though Salem is seen as the antagonist in Rambly’s video game, her being in the train ride and her merch in the Critter Corner suggests that she may not have been portrayed as a bad guy when Indigo Park was up and running. She may have been put up to be a mischievous but well meaning character in Rambly’s crew. We know that she makes potions and likes to use her friends to experiment with them. Maybe, in Rambly’s game, Salem’s potion that turns squirrels and Molly evil isn’t intended to turn them evil (the end of the game glitches out, so we don’t really get to see a true ending to it). Salem’s potions may have an intended purpose, but the gimmick is that they never work as intended, just like how Molly makes and flys planes, but is bad at flying them and always crashes. Salem may be an antagonist in the main game (as the rest of the mascots are) but I don’t think that was what her character is was supposed to be when Indigo Park was up and running. Idk, just a theory
Wikipedia said that Salem is Rambley’s Arch Enemy. Plus, I’m already having a theory that she might be the one responsible for the park being inactive and the mascots going rogue.
I would be very sad if that would actually be the case. I was most excited to see more of them since skunks are one of my favorite animals and I don’t get to see skunk characters a lot in fiction.

I don't know if the animatronic is/was alive in some way or if it was reprogrammed. What I do know is that Rambley is NOT evil. Salem is.
My theory is that whatever they used to bring the Mascots into reality didn't consider the fact her potions turn people into evil monsters. So when she started acting out her persona and tossing the potions as Rambley's friends, it had the obviously disastrous results.

When rambling is glitching out on the train ride if you play the sound of him glitching reverse you can hear him say stuff it’s really hard to make out
I think that Rambley's the evil one. Look how mad he got when you show him the retro Lloyd plush and how he forces you to become a staff member and coerces you to start fixing the park. Plus he watches you pretty much everywhere.
He adds you as "staff" so you can enter the staff area and get away from Mollie the Murderous Macaw. He doesn't get mad at the Lloyd plushie, just annoyed. He is a GUIDE for guests to the park who just so happens to be an AI.
Theory the skunk is the reason why everyone in the park is evil in the mini game she uses a potion to turn the bird evil so she could have got some chemicals and use it on the cast to make them evil in the real world plus remember your mask theory withe the bird being in the cage maybe she was the one with the mask but that’s just my theory a GAME THEORY

My theory is actually about Salem being the one turning mollie and Lloyd evil! (I didn’t say Finley because we only get a glimpse of him before the end credits roll) we know that Salem makes mollie evil in that little mini arcade game with some sort of potion, so my theory is that she actually went ahead and used those potions on Lloyd and mollie, causing them to be slightly deranged. Also idk if other ppl caught this, but I’m pretty sure Rambley knows about this. After mollie gets beheaded in the end of the chase scene, rambley says stuff like “park members and people have stopped showing up, and the mascots…” and then he trails off and doesn’t finish his sentence, moving to a different subject. He has to know about what’s going on, and maybe he feels guilty because he can’t save mollie and Lloyd? It would explain a lot, because even in the song at some points he does sound disenheartened and out of hope, my point tying that theory together because there’s one lyric in the song that goes smth like “till all my friends are reunited again and I won’t feel so left behind”, showing that rambley wants his friends back, but he knows theyve been tampered with.
I think that she will show up more as the game move on and we will fight her as the final boss fight. This might not be correct but hey that just a theory. A GAME THEORY THAT FOR READING MY COMMENT.
Little fun fact you probably haven't heard about, Salem is actually non-binary! Confirmed by Uniquegeese during his live-stream reaction to Matpat playing Indigo Park on gtlive. I don't have a time stamp unfortunately, but it's in there in multiple places, I think it happened around the part where Mat and Ash got introduced to the sea dragon (forgot his name) and Unique geese went on a hilarious rant about everyone shipping solely the male characters with each other, with radio silence on the female molly, and non-binary Salem.
actually, theres a line Molly says when she catches you, "get back in you cage, bird!" (or something) which was said by a worker, if you play the audio clip (i don't know which collectable it goes to) from one of the collectables, two workers will be talking about the mascots (llyod, molly, and salem) and they're talking about how they'll (the workers) be replaced, they sound upset about this idea, so its more likely the workers did this to Molly instead of Salem. (but thats what i collected through other videos so maybe it was salem :])
Hey datchia! So You know Molly is a parrot correct? And after you die it says "She repeats words she hears" Well Molly Macaw during the chase scene has a voiceline that sounds like this "Get back in your cage, bird." Implying that Salem could've locked Molly, not only in the arcade, but also behind the door that opens before she chases us *Theory*
In my theory, Rambley was able to control the mascots with certain frequences which caused them pain. Although it was originally used as part of the safety protocol to keep them docile, he began to abuse it specifically on Lloyd (because the Mollie robot says "Not Rambley. He hurts Lloyd!") So my wild guess is that Salem figured out how to neutralize the frequences and used that on Mollie and perhaps on Finley too. And after hell broke loose, Salem went into hiding or she died during the incident.
Thinking about it, Salem is the only character to lack merchandise around the park. They THEORETICALLY may have a ride, as two posters were knocked over in the queue area to the railroad, but no other posters or advertising appears around the park, which is odd considering there’s a bunch of Molly and Finley ride posters… On a playthrough, there was a comment that pointed out that it was odd for the park to use cutouts when they have 2 functioning(?) animatronics in storage. IMO I think Salem took their own animatronic and the park changed all of the characters to cutouts so it would look symmetrical across all 4 scenes. Considering the lore for Salem that UniqueGeese posted to Twitter (and made a prerelease video for) noted that they were an inventor, it’s possible that they broke/stole animatronics for parts to use. They might have also contributed to the damage of the other rides (although that could also just be due to the abandonment and lack of maintenance). Definitely feels too early to call anyone a villain yet, but I think Salem might have the most interesting character story out of the cast here, and I can’t wait for chapter 2. (Edited because I forgot they were enby halfway through my essay)
Ok I have a theory that Salem is still in the park but not bad. Hear me out since she had the potion to take control of the others maybe she had one to resist it and not be taken control of and she is also hiding from the others trying to survive like us until we find her and we join forces together to escape. Seeing as Salem is meant the be the antagonistic mascot, i feel like she's going to be built up and mentioned more and more in the future chapters and she's going to show up in the either the last chapter or the end of the second to last chapter of the game, weather she's going to be a mutated animal like the others or a costume with a human inside, i don't know. If Rambley does end up being a twist villain (which is a whole other conversation) i would love it if Salem acts as another A.I character except she's friendly.

I like the idea Salem’s Mascot counterpart is a revolutionary who encouraged the other mascots to fight back against the people mistreating them.

Also idk if other ppl caught this, but I’m pretty sure Rambley knows about this. After mollie gets beheaded in the end of the chase scene, rambley says stuff like “park members and people have stopped showing up, and the mascots…” and then he trails off and doesn’t finish his sentence, moving to a different subject. He has to know about what’s going on, and maybe he feels guilty because he can’t save mollie and Lloyd? It would explain a lot, because even in the song at some points he does sound disenheartened and out of hope, my point tying that theory together because there’s one lyric in the song that goes smth like “till all my friends are reunited again and I won’t feel so left behind”, showing that rambley wants his friends back, but he knows theyve been tampered with.

Little fun fact you probably haven't heard about, Salem is actually non-binary! Confirmed by Uniquegeese during his live-stream reaction to Matpat playing Indigo Park on gtlive. I don't have a time stamp unfortunately, but it's in there in multiple places, I think it happened around the part where Mat and Ash got introduced to the sea dragon (forgot his name) and Unique geese went on a hilarious rant about everyone shipping solely the male characters with each other, with radio silence on the female molly, and non-binary Salem.

actually, theres a line Molly says when she catches you, "get back in you cage, bird!" (or something) which was said by a worker, if you play the audio clip (i don't know which collectable it goes to) from one of the collectables, two workers will be talking about the mascots (llyod, molly, and salem) and they're talking about how they'll (the workers) be replaced, they sound upset about this idea, so its more likely the workers did this to Molly instead of Salem. (but thats what i collected through other videos so maybe it was salem :])

Well Molly Macaw during the chase scene has a voiceline that sounds like this

Implying that Salem could've locked Molly, not only in the arcade, but also behind the door that opens before she chases us

When i ran into Salem skunks cutout one of my friends said

In my theory, Rambley was able to control the mascots with certain frequences which caused them pain. Although it was originally used as part of the safety protocol to keep them docile, he began to abuse it specifically on Lloyd (because the Mollie robot says "Not Rambley. He hurts Lloyd!")
So my wild guess is that Salem figured out how to neutralize the frequences and used that on Mollie and perhaps on Finley too. And after hell broke loose, Salem went into hiding or she died during the incident.

Thinking about it, Salem is the only character to lack merchandise around the park. They THEORETICALLY may have a ride, as two posters were knocked over in the queue area to the railroad, but no other posters or advertising appears around the park, which is odd considering there’s a bunch of Molly and Finley ride posters…
On a playthrough, there was a comment that pointed out that it was odd for the park to use cutouts when they have 2 functioning(?) animatronics in storage. IMO I think Salem took their own animatronic and the park changed all of the characters to cutouts so it would look symmetrical across all 4 scenes. Considering the lore for Salem that UniqueGeese posted to Twitter (and made a prerelease video for) noted that they were an inventor, it’s possible that they broke/stole animatronics for parts to use. They might have also contributed to the damage of the other rides (although that could also just be due to the abandonment and lack of maintenance).
Definitely feels too early to call anyone a villain yet, but I think Salem might have the most interesting character story out of the cast here, and I can’t wait for chapter 2.

Maybe Salem was trying to liberate the mascots, and it went horribly wrong… or horribly right.
Seeing as Salem is meant the be the antagonistic mascot, i feel like she's going to be built up and mentioned more and more in the future chapters and she's going to show up in the either the last chapter or the end of the second to last chapter of the game, weather she's going to be a mutated animal like the others or a costume with a human inside, i don't know. If Rambley does end up being a twist villain (which is a whole other conversation) i would love it if Salem acts as another A.I character except she's friendly.
