I grew up with Final Fantasy games :) played 7 when I was 10, 8 when I was 12, 9 when I was 13, 11 when I was 16, 6 when I was 21... there's really nothing like the feeling of completing a good Final Fantasy game. The friends and enemies you make, places you visit, the music that creates the great atmospheres of the games,the artistry and creativity, it's inventiveness... it was more like a place I visited rather than a video game. You really missed something if you never played an FF.
one more thing: 6,7, & 10 are probably the most popular in the series sales wise. I think this is due to the fact that the stories integrate futuristic/sci-fi elements (technology) with fantasy/mythological elements (magic, summons, etc) that kinda cross-pollination of genres will reach a larger crowd than a straight-up medieval tale. good luck on your game!
I believe this music is a part of our memory of life, we surely enjoyed this series of game and was moved in various ways. Thanks for Square and our childhood!
Just like me. FF7 was my first game in the series and it scarred my hart forever and made me go back and play all previous 6 titles. I cant imagine the world without FF and cannot wait for ffxiii.
Yeah! ff7 was a present from my uncle to my dad on his b-day. He thought it was a war game, but he found out later it was an RPG, so he gave it to my brother and I. I was 8 then. Awesome times.
Hell yes man. The original badass games that revolutionized RPG's in general. It was to be expected for this series to fade once Enix joined Square, the masters of RPG gaming, but like Legend of Zelda, the originals will ALWAYS be remembered. FFVI to Link to the Past, FFVII to Ocarina of Time, and even FFX to Wind Waker. These are the TRUE, RPG classics. Regardless of what's to come with FFVersusXIII and Skyward Sword, I'll never forget these amazing, legendary pieces of art. FFForever!
@BlueAuraEX Couldn't have said it better myself. Part of the charm of the original games were in their graphics. It still amazes me how in FF6 they got those little sprites to be as lively as they were, able to show so many different emotions so clearly. FF7 was blocky, but I wouldn't want it any other way. I am still thankful for the releases of FF Origins, Anthology and FF3 DS, because through those people outside of Japan were able to experience the lost numbers of the series.

@BlueAuraEX true final fantasy games revolutionized the rpg industry with great novel quality stories and great graphics even on the nes versions, right now they may look old but back when they came out it was woah that looks great I remember staring down sabins mountain with the music in the background it was breathtaking, but Enix is a giant of rpgs that made the first rpg in a console ever with dragon quest and that series is as great as FF even if it focused on story over graphics
also, for me personally, the series strength lies in each game being unique and different from the last. ff9 reverted to medieval themes and that was great, but i think each one needs to be vastly different from the last to accommodate all the unique tastes of their customers

Oh man this brings back memories. FFIV, VI, and IX are by far the best. When FFVII came out I was pissed that they left the fantasy era behind and started modern world fantasy and I still haven't got over that. Not to mention FFVII's story was pretty boring.
I think FF Series tell only ONE THING that " Every one NEVER WANT TO LOSE who is their precious person and thing(nature ?, earth?),but that is often taken． Their philosophy is same as "Naucica"(Miyazaki's cartoon) . (Sorry, I'm not good at Engish）
@StickEntertainment Final Fantasy 7 with Final Fantasy 13 graphics, as well as adding audio from the voice actors of the movie, would make Final Fantasy the single greatest video game of all time. It's already pretty high up, but better graphics + audio would put it over the top XD
i agree with that; they have gone too futuristic, and also too realistic in regards to graphics and character design. XII was fun, but don't want to see more of the same in XIII. make each one different! i like your idea of the past and future timewarp. it was done in chrono trigger, but certainly could be done well in a final fantasy series
1-3 are okayish, 3 being the better one. 4 is awesome story. 5 felt like the job system being taking further. Never played 6, so no opinion. Same with 7, but i have played crisis core (really good). 8 was just real long, and had a lot of party decisions. 9 was just something to be awed at. The length, story, extras etc. 10/10-2 are the best ps2 ones, hands down. 12 was ok.

But the thing is, is that almost every single gaming site and gamer have said that Ocarina of Time was the best game ever made. I just have one thing to say is that your right, except what Square Enix could do was to put like the beginning into the past (with the Warriors of Light) and then maybe halfway through the game have them go through a portal that ends up taking them to the future and into the world of darkness. That's a suggestion cause I'm getting tired of seeing futuristic Final Fantasy all the time. That's why i'm playing Final Fantasy I and II

In VII, I'm at like the VERY LAST PART--ready to fight Sephiroth (at least I THINK I'm ready. lol) But I wanted to get a Gold Chocobo and get Knight of the Round before I verse him. But then in the middle of my Chocobo training, I got a Chocobo that had very poor base stats and I can't race him to get his rank up higher! :( Suggestions? Start over? Or just beat the game?
Not that common to hear that. FFVII had a great storyline (the best, in my opinion), and the graphics were amazing. It's just that some people were drawn away from the background because the characters were so blocky. But hey, pay close enough attention and it's easy to see that for that time period, the graphics really were epic (yes, epic) and some of the best. (We just don't see that because our graphics now are crazy amazing. Just look at FFVsXIII. o.O)

FFVII is a good game but I still think that it is far from the best game ever made. In my opinion Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is the best game ever made.
I'm not going against you saying that FF isn't original, all I have to say is that they bring back some of the elements from the the earlier games. Preferebly 2 things. #1 The four crystal plot but with a massive twist. #2 The Job system. (original one) Me personnaly enjoyed the licence system in XII but found it much too complicated, and now they're doing something like X (i think X used different spheres to upgrade differant abilities. I truely can't remember right now. XIII is doing that )

1-4 r really good games. 1 and 2 will be hard to find unless u can find an emulator and put them on it but if u plan on buying 1 and 2 it will be difficult to find. but 3 and 4 will be easy if u have a nintendo ds. And I haven't played any other final fantasy game after 4 but have played 12 and found it all right wished i had more control over the other charectors in it.

Its not horrible, yes it has a lot of grind, welcome to every MMO ever concieved... have you ever played everquest? you don't even know what grinding is unless you play that for a while... at any rate by MMO standards i think XI is extremely good,and I'd go so far as to say it has the most developed back story and story missions of any MMO
I respect your argument, but square is a business, and therefore put in the position of trying to reach the broadest spectrum of people with their signature series. however, i think they have taken things a step too far towards sci-fi (judging off screenshots of ffXIII) but i also believe fantasy as a genre should always be pushing imagination into new realms and ideas, not resting on the annals of the past, and therefore avoid a singular medieval theme
@BlueAuraEX you forgot: zelda 1 nes= FF1, both were revolution to their genere, Adventure of link=FF2, the black sheep games, and i dont think that and zelda game is anything equal to FF3, not saying FF3 was better, but zelda never had a game with similar concept to FF3. oh and I could say FF4 is like zelda awakening. Both are so underapreciated. Oh and dont forget: FF9= Zelda: Majora Mask. Both are light hearted at times ond dark at times.
Only someone who never played FFXI for more then 30 minutes would say that. Sure it's difficult to start out on, but that weeds out the impatient 14-year-olds that procced to go to WoW and yell swear words into their mics.
@akpokemon If you'd never beaten the game before, go and do it, forget the KotR and finish the game. But if you're in a 100% completition quest, just reset and start over.

Final Fantasy VII is getting an HD remake for the PSP2. IT will be announced this year at E3 2011. This is not a rumor, this is for real.

actually NA FF3 is JP FF6, not 7, but they released the JP FF3 in english for the DS with similar story, just a little fleshed out charactors

i havent played 1 2 3 4 5 6~. am planning on playing them actually so, until then i cant say anything about them~ i said in the previous comment that the rest sucks i ment the games they made after 9 were terrible, not b4 :S! . anyway this song brings back memories
