Years ago, after seeing that movie "The 6th Day", the movie didn't quite go where I was expecting it and I offhand mentioned to a friend that it's been awhile since Schwarzenegger had played a tried-and-true villain in a movie (his horrendous performance as Mr. Freeze notwithstanding). So I suggested what about a movie where, for the first half, Schwarzenegger maybe played the hero to a group of survivors, only to be infected by something like a zombie/vampire/whatever midway through and become the main antagonist from that point on for them? I basically had in mind a less-sci-fi, more horror-oriented version of "The Terminator". Anyhow, when I'd heard Schwarzenegger was due to be in a zombie film a few years ago--which ultimately turned out to be "Maggie"--I kinda felt we're almost getting closer to that happening. It could either be one of his best films ever made, or an abominable laughing stock that destroys his career for good.
@@hamupinhere of you like Schwarzenegger in a more dramatic roll, i recommend Aftermath. I think its still on Netflix. Was not what I expected, a bit of a slow burner but a good watch!
@@Verrill82 The one where he's coping with loss after the plane crash kills his family? Would you hate me if I said I cracked up throughout most of that movie? My favourite zombie film is 'the night eats the world' about a musician who is holed up in a save place and just has to deal with the boredom of being on his own. Recently watched '#ALIVE' as well both really good zombie films.
i really liked build up and the character development was quite realistic in #Alive. You could feel for the character, their loneliness and descent of despair while being trapped. But then it just felt like someone else took over the movie midway and rushed it. It just wiped away the first half of the movie and finished in like 20mins really stupidly with no answers
Although not in movie format the miniseries IN THE FLESH on BBC was outstanding, and a very interesting and ultimately twisted take on zombies. It's a must watch if you love unique zombie tales!💀🧟♀️🖤
as much as i'm a fan of 80% of the movies on this list, not one of these beat THE DEAD DON'T DIE. it broke every rule, every wall, every possible logic in the genre. a true masterpiece.
I’m surprised ‘Night Eats The World’ wasn’t on here, and also ‘Ravenous’ both films show isolation, tension and other struggles of the world ending, not just zombies. Great films.
Not sure how 'The night eats the world slipped past my radar, constantly looking for good zombie movies and I checked it out. Gotta say was pretty decent.
Ravenous? Isn't that a cannibal film with Guy Pierce? Were he ate Human flesh/blood and gained strength and killed the enemy regiment? His whole fight with another Cannibal?
I'd add the original _Day of the Dead_ to the list, because it has a psycho human villain in Captain Rhodes, a bat guano crazy Dr. "Frankenstein" Logan trying to end the zombie apocalypse by _domesticating_ them, and his crowning success, "Bub", the loveable zombie who Logan tries to reteach such simple tasks as shaving, reading, and listening to a Walkman.
Dead meat focusses on kills rather than top ten, they only talk about 1 movie per video. This channel does top ten and talks about more than one in each video. Edify yourself sir.
Maggie was a great discovery for me too. Talk about breaking the rules, putting Arnold S. in a zombie movie where he's a loving dad, and it's a drama instead of an action movie? Awesome casting-against-type!
Its not a movie but there was a very short lived TV show called in the flesh which managed to be about zombies but also about self acceptance and the main character is a definitely not straight guy who has to deal with both being a (medicated and thus able to pass a human) zombie and being gay and it gave me many feelings and I am still mad at BBC for not giving us closure on the cliffhanger at the end Also yay for Ash and more horror content! I don't watch a lot of horror because I'm a weenie with anxiety but I also love film so this is a perfect place for me to learn about horror films without having to watch them!
I knew if i scrolled down a bit I'd find someone else recommending it. I haven't watched all the episodes yet but from what I've seen so far its pretty good.
Im so glad Pontypool was on this list. That was such a good film. Same with Warm Bodies. And i mean cmon.. Shaun of the Dead. A+. Perfect role for Simon Pegg.
@Lee McDonald I used to, but well now find it to be a good movie. Sure its has some things that are pretty stupid once you think about it but I don't think it gets dragged to far down because of it.
@Lee McDonald its because the movie wasnt all that great but warm bodies was pretty unique because the zombies could become human again and a lot of what made them zombies was their loss of self/humanity. They had lost memory and the only way to get any feel of humanity was consuming human brains where they could relive that persons memories
@Lee McDonald No, I fully support you in this. Warm Bodies was NOT my cup of tea at all. To me, it struck me as one of those movies where the concept got taken way too far. Just because something hasn't been done before doesn't mean it should be done. Nor does it mean it will turn out any good. Yes, you can take a concept and turn it on its head by introducing factors that no one has before or by changing some rules. Some of those work out and become great, some of them are stupid AF. This movie, to me, falls in the latter category. You can only stretch a concept so far before you start to lose the essence of what it originally embodied and Warm Bodies takes the concept of a zombie movies and takes into a territory that, in my opinion, renders it unrecognizable from the original concept. 2/10 movie. Hated it to the very core of my being. The only reason it gets as much as a 2 is because I do admire the support of its fanbase for this movie, so it must be doing something right for a lot of people. Not for me, but apparently there is an audience out there for it, so I can't help but have some respect for that.
Oh man, wouldve loved to see "the night eats the world" on here. Basically it follows one man who holds up in an apartment while you watch him slowly lose his sanity as he gets more and more reckless. The use of silence is phenomenal on building the suspense.
Another vote for The Night Eats the World. I love how in the beginning Sam barely talks. Instead, everyone talks around him at the party. Then for the rest of the movie, his is the only living voice we hear again. And I agree, the silence is so unsettling. You find yourself getting jumpy whenever you hear something and it isn't come from Sam.
@@mekkio77 the lack of dialog is awesome bc when ge actually does speak his words feel important, also the movie does a great job on showing complacency with your situation instead of trying to live.

Emjay Dunton I think the reason why it just ended was that they were not sure if it would do well as it is very unorthodox for a zombie film. I think they should have left a few things open for speculation though. Leaving things open doesn't always make a film bad, and in this case it probably would have helped it.

It's a really creative idea and actually a pretty funny film. It's not like a high budget movie by any means, it's definitely a B movie campy story cult classic kind of movie. But it's totally worth a watch.

Maggie with Schwarzenegger was a good deviation from the usual Zombie tropes!
was so good...more of a drama....such a smart movie..
a must see
Years ago, after seeing that movie "The 6th Day", the movie didn't quite go where I was expecting it and I offhand mentioned to a friend that it's been awhile since Schwarzenegger had played a tried-and-true villain in a movie (his horrendous performance as Mr.
It's not the plane crash thing, trust me; it was the concept of Schwarzenegger turning in an emotional/dramatic performance. It's hard for me to take him seriously; I love him though.
@@hamupinhere that's the one!
I get why it made you crack up! 40 years of him playing the wooden action hero makes its hard to take him seriously!
I just think he does a good job playing out of his comfort zone. There's so many A-list stars that would struggle to pull off a dramatic roll!
Warm Bodies as a well done social commentary about interpersonal connections. With just the right amount of campy hummor. Loved it. Wish you all would put the list items in the description so it would be easier to keep track of the items I would like to check out on your list videos (on all the channels, love all by the way). Thank bunches for the great videos
"Zombie Land" is a fantastic film. Actually, one of my all-time favorites. The story is great and the casting is perfect.
I was shocked that it wasn't #2 (I don't mind it losing to "Shaun")...and actually ranked LOWER than ParaNorman!
I hate they didn't have another season. It was a interesting take and could've gone far if given the chance.
It's sad that it didn't have many episodes, I really liked that show
Yes
Where can I watch!!!??!
Dead Set....interesting take on the zombie movie...
"The Dead Don't Die" may not be on a top 10 list, but it was an interesting, chill, funny zombie movie.
Yeah but it was also designed to be a big F U to zombie movie fans
The Ancient One did that!
this channel is everything i wanted and now i have it, thank you ash ♥
as much as i'm a fan of 80% of the movies on this list, not one of these beat THE DEAD DON'T DIE. it broke every rule, every wall, every possible logic in the genre. a true masterpiece.
I agree... Golshifteh was on night eats the world. She was also in Extra tion with. Chris Hemsworth
Watching tonight!!! Thank you 😊
Ravenous is great, but it's about Wendigo rather than Zombies. Highly recommended, though.
Ravenous? Isn't that a cannibal film with Guy Pierce?
Were he ate Human flesh/blood and gained strength and killed the enemy regiment?
His whole fight with another Cannibal?
Shaun of the dead was AMAZING! Romero had high praise for it.
Pegg & Frost got cameo's in his Land of the Dead because of it.
Ash says "Titty"
Me: *giggles like a 5 year old*
I'd add the original _Day of the Dead_ to the list, because it has a psycho human villain in Captain Rhodes, a bat guano crazy Dr. "Frankenstein" Logan trying to end the zombie apocalypse by _domesticating_ them, and his crowning success, "Bub", the loveable zombie who Logan tries to reteach such simple tasks as shaving, reading, and listening to a Walkman.
Anna And The Apocalypse up there as one of my favorite movies of all time! So happy to finally see it making an appearance on WC!
Someone who finally agrees with me😌
28 Days Later deserves its own video when it comes to subverting the rules of Zombies, so I didn't much mind that you left it off the list.
I love Night of the Creeps. Good news girls your dates are here, bad news is they're dead
Thrill Me
Tom motherf**cking atkins!!
Movie gave me a fear of leaches
Loved night of the creeps, classic
Good movie, not for this list
It’s nice to see paranorman on this list
Highly recommend "The Night Eats the World" if anyone is looking for another off-piste zombie movie!
Yeah this was a pretty good film. Enjoyed the whole isolation aspect and the music / percussion parts
Whoa! A +1 for "Pontypool", cool and different movie that was just 'missed'.
Not sure if anyone mentioned it but “My Boyfriends Back” was a great one too.
there is also "Dead Heat" and the "House" movies but the house movies could also be under super natural too
Sooooo glad to see Fido getting some much deserved love. Definitely one of my favorites.
Man, finally a channel only about horror!! I can't even begin to imagine what great lists this channel will make, especially on HALLOWEEN!
Bro dead meat is mainly horror
Dead meat focusses on kills rather than top ten, they only talk about 1 movie per video. This channel does top ten and talks about more than one in each video. Edify yourself sir.
Harrison Hotchkiss you said a channel about horror he does kill counts, horror podcasts, horror games, top 10’s and supercuts like come on man
I love warm bodies, it will forever be one of my favourite zombie movies
Awesome movie. I am still kicking myself that I didn't pick up on the obvious inspiration for the movie until late in the movie.
I loved It Stains the Sand Red. Surprisingly emotional film. Very well done. Acting is superb
Not gonna lie, Anna and the apocalypse was a fun watch for me.
Can't believe Maggie isn't on this list.
I can’t believe that the DoTD remake wasn’t included
Maggie was a great discovery for me too. Talk about breaking the rules, putting Arnold S. in a zombie movie where he's a loving dad, and it's a drama instead of an action movie? Awesome casting-against-type!
Let's not forget 2015's "Maggie"
Arnold was spectacular and heartfelt
I love Fido, Billy Connolly is an absolute legend. The story is hilarious and well acted.
Nice list. For another weird one, try One Cut of the Dead. It goes in an unexpected direction.
Its not a movie but there was a very short lived TV show called in the flesh which managed to be about zombies but also about self acceptance and the main character is a definitely not straight guy who has to deal with both being a (medicated and thus able to pass a human) zombie and being gay and it gave me many feelings and I am still mad at BBC for not giving us closure on the cliffhanger at the end
Also yay for Ash and more horror content!
@@ratedtriplex I love it so much, I'm still mad there's only 9 episodes!
Im so glad Pontypool was on this list. That was such a good film. Same with Warm Bodies.
And i mean cmon.. Shaun of the Dead. A+. Perfect role for Simon Pegg.
I remember when the trailer for warm bodies came out and it looked stupid for me but I decided to watch it on a whim and man I loved it
Same!
Was hoping "Colin" would be on here - but have to admit, even with its absence, this is a pretty good list.
I saw "It Stains the Sand Red". Honestly one of the best zombie movies I have seen in a long time.
Life After Beth is a hilariously funny film. I was in stitches watching the movie and Aubrey Plaza was brilliant as Beth.
Of course i ate them. Im an effing zombie. Lol
Great list! Could also include the brilliant Colin, Cargo, Portrait Of A Zombie and In The Flesh 🙂!
If you haven't already you need to watch In The Flesh, it's only 2 Seasons long, 9 Episodes in total, but it puts a new spin on the Zombie franchise, & also
Les Revenants "The Returned" (not the movie, but the 2 Season, 16 Episodes series) it's in French, but it does has English Subtitles if you don't mind that kind of thing, also the English version series is ok too, it's only 1 Season, & 10 Episodes long...lol
I thought In The Flesh was a bit slow to get started, but once you get past the first few episodes, it really finds its mark and ends up being great. Highly recommended to anyone who likes zombie media!
Thank you. Watching
So so glad Fido made the list. Totally underrated and totally fantastic!!
The Return sounds a bit like Daybreakers, but with zombies.... I must watch 😎
Hellorhighwater88 you should also watch In The Flesh which came out before The Returned, same storyline but it’s a tv series.
I would agree and it’s not as dark as Daybreakers but I thought it was a well done movie. Also In The Flesh is a british show with a very similar idea and a great look at the culture of people coming back.
"Cargo" is an amazing zombie movie about what a father will do to save his child.
I was surprised that "Deadgirl" wasn't on the list
that movie was completely warped. but good call.
Maybe if it was a better movie.
Maggie with Arnold Schwarzenegger was a great zombie film! I nearly wept at the end.
Tldr:
10 - Warm Bodies
9 - Anna and the Apocolypse
8 - It stains the sands Red
7 - Fido
6 - Life after Beth
5 - Zombieland
4 - ParaNorman
3 - Pontypool
2 - The Returned
1 - Shaun of the Dead
Burying the Ex was funny, and a very underrated zombie movie that broke all the rules and was just like life after Beth.
Glad to see Pontypool get a mention. One of my favourite zombie films
"Return of the living dead" should be on this list :-)
I second this. Mast moving and brain eating zombies.
But that's a combination staple by now so no. Brain or flesh, fast or slow, easy or hard to kill.
@@tatvela6915 it doesn't matter if its a standard now. At the time, it broke the rules. It was new and great. It also started the pop culture idea of eating specifically the brains.
@@natsune09 so it broke the rules in the 80s. Well Night of the Living Dead Brooke the rules in the 60s. You pretty much state that it's pop culture lol. I'd say 28 days later broke the rules because they're not really dead zombies, and World Way Z has climbing zombies. Boom.
Yeah you're right. Some of those older ones did break the mold that was around then
Open Grave, [REC], The Crazies, Cargo, Re-kill, the Cured, Mutant (1984), 28 Days Later, The Girl With All the Gifts, Maggie, Wyrmwood, the Battery, Night of the Living Dead, Night of the Creeps, and Dead Set should be on this list as well. Each are excellent and diverse in their own way! Love Zombies and all things horror!!! cheers from Canada, Ash!
I just recently watched Cargo, it was a different take on the genre that was really good
Excellent movie!!! Also, Ravenous and Here Alone
I saw Warm Bodies at least once. One of my favorite moments was where they did the reverse and he had her acting like a zombie, but soon he just turned other and said "Too much" when she overdid it.
"the girl with all the gifts" should have been listed here. that movie was pretty good and different.
Maggie, The Battery, and The Girl with All the Gifts should be on this list.
"Ravenous" (Canada - 2017) aka "Les Affames"
I absolutely love "The Returned." The mockumentary, "American Zombie, " and the low budget "Colin" are also must-see Zombie movies that are...well, different.
Whoa, you're not going to mention that Fido has Carrie Ann Moss!? :O
Fantastic list! And I am loving this channel.
“Anner and the apocalypse “
You saying Paranorman just gave me a blast from the past, gonna go watch it now
Has nobody seen “The Cured” with Ellen Page!? Underrated as all fook.
Sooooo fucking good!!!!

been a zombie film fan since i was a kid, warm bodies is one of the unique concept i ever seen in a zombie film.
I was expecting "Cooties" to be on here. I'm not disappointed, just surprised. I'll have to check some of these out, save the musical as I hate musicals.
I saw that movie. I forgot what happens in it. That's how good it was. That's why it's not on this list.
Not enough zombie movies feature a dual rear wheel. It should have made the list for that alone.
It is a shame the film just kind of...ends though.
Emjay Dunton I think the reason why it just ended was that they were not sure if it would do well as it is very unorthodox for a zombie film. I think they should have left a few things open for speculation though. Leaving things open doesn't always make a film bad, and in this case it probably would have helped it.
Cooties came off more depressing than funny for me, those poor kids were just living their lives and enjoying what they liked to enjoy and then suddenly they have their humanity ripped from them and they become ravenous little monsters who devour their parents
Mr Critical zombie movies are rarely funny and Cooties was very depressing. But it did have an interesting take on the genre if you ask me.
I literally always come on your channel and find movies that I want to watch
