    Great review with so much good info!
    Question: With the increased blue blocking and fast transitions, would you recommend the Gen S or XTRActive New gen for light sensitivity? 32% vs 34% blue block seems negligible, so I was wondering what the advantage is, if any, of XTRactive after Gen S?

    • @lukew2194
      @lukew2194 Месяц назад

      xtrActive get darker, they are a true level 3 sunglasses and they can darken without the presence of UV light. The downsides are that they cost a little bit more and take much longer to transition than gen s

    Interesting Video! Outside, I prefer wearing XTRActive vs. traditional transparent lenses. Indoors, I prefer wearing traditional lenses. I have a pair of Essilor Varilux Lens with Transitions XTRActive and a Fire Red Mirror Coating.
    XTRActive Grey with Fire Red Mirror Coating
    Pros
    + All visible light wavelengths activate the XTRAactive vs. UV activates the Transitions Gen8
    + Great for outdoor sports and driving, use them everyday for walking and running outside
    + Become much darker than Transitions Gen8, even more so when below 70 F outside
    + Better than Transitions Gen8 for outdoor activities and driving
    + Quick to darken and lighten, still work great after 1 year of daily use
    Cons
    - Prefer not to use indoors, too much light attenuation and too many internal reflections from indoor light sources
    - Try not to use these outside at night because of internal reflections from vehicle lights, street lights, etc.
    - Still usable after dusk, but prefer to wear Transitions Gen8 or non-Transitions lenses

      Most likely, the mirror coating on the lens is bothering you. It is beautiful, but not very practical.

      Yep, I also have an XTRActive lense without the Mirror coating which has less internal reflections at night; I still prefer wearing a transparent lense at night because XTRActive does attenuate the light.@@igorrybin2737

      The mirror coating works great outside during the day. It is still acceptable at night, but one sees more internal reflections from street lights, etc.@@igorrybin2737

    Hello Mr Nelson....Your presentation was exciting. However, did Essilor explain to you that they're adding a Grey tint to the Sapphire and Amethyst samples that you have that makes them even darker?? I recently have purchased BOTH of those Gen 8 style colors and they were more GREY than Sapphire and Amethyst. Essilor wouldn't put the colors of their Samples that you're showing everyone, into the matching colored frames I purchased, and refused to return my money. Please don't sell these colors to your patients without checking this out first. My optometrist assumed as I did, with physical samples in hand, that the lenses would turn out that way. The transitioning is incredible, the STYLE COLORS are not.

      You purchased 2 Gen 8 but he’s presenting the new Gen S (9) which is not on the market yet.
      The ones you bought….I’ve bought before too, the amethyst was so grey and dark like you said.
      I can’t wait for this one to drop in the market, I was in their study group a year ago and LOVED all the colors.

      They redid the colors with Pantone for this remake. The blue is jewel toned, more like Zeiss’s has been, the purple is much more vibrant as well. And the ruby is to die for. I ordered it the hour it went on sale. Not only do they have less grey, they look good at all levels of tint now.

    • @YammyClav
      @YammyClav Месяц назад

      I ordered the Gen S Sapphire in April and have yet to see them turn blue at all. They are grey. LensCrafters has replaced them, and they’re still gray. They don’t match the simulator or marketing material from Transitions. Even more disheartening, is the lack of response from Transitions after many attempts. Before I say that the marketing material paints a false picture, it’s possible that LensCrafters fulfilled the order wrong (twice), but a store employee has confirmed that they really don’t look blue. I expected more from Gen S.

      @@YammyClav Sorry to hear about your plight. My story happened the same as yours but worst. I became a sucker twice hoping for a better outcome. I became a SuperSucker when I had special ordered frames to match the GEN 8 special colors. My optometrist couldn't/wouldn't do a thing. They did talk to the Essilor Lab and support to no avail. As you know frames and lens aren't cheap and we as customers deserve better and get what is advertised and ordered. Essilor knows they have this problem. I've even contacted the state AG to look into the matter for false advertisement, to no avail. Their offer was to do a small claims suit. I guess I should just shut up and be happy, enjoying how blazing fast my GREY lens that I didn't order, change back and forth.

    What is the material for Gen S? Is this polycarbonate or something else? Want to know how tough it is for sports etc. Also, outside but under a hat's brim, does the Transition work well? Thanks.

      They are available in a variety of materials, incluidng polycarbonate

    • @lukew2194
      @lukew2194 Месяц назад

      For transition to work best they must be exposed to UV light. If you are hiding them under the brim of a hat they will not get as dark because you are restricting the amount of UV light that is reaching the lens.

    • @lukew2194
      @lukew2194 Месяц назад

      The lenses are as tough as regular polycarbonate or Trivex lenses. The tech that allows the lenses to transition is imbedded in the lens and I don't think it has any negative effect on the integrity of the lenses. If you are worried than you should get some safety lenses and some safety frames but I think that would be a bit overkill for just playing sports.

    Ok, clear as mud. the XtraActive vs Gen S? If both go to Category 3 -- and Gen S is faster, why would I buy the XtraActive? I have XtraActive and unless the UV is harsh and its really hot outside, I doubt it gets past Category 2. Your thoughts? I will say when driving -- for sure, XtraActive never get past Category 2 and that is 100% fact. Last, which is the darkest Gan S in brownish tint -- Amber or Brown? I will buy today if the new Gen S is faster, a real true always Cat 3 lens.
