I'm on the third washer motor on a Series 3. I bought Lucas green box the first two times (increased in price a lot between first and second). They don't seem to like sitting unused. The third time I bought a 'Tudor' brand for half the price, looks totally identical. See how long that one goes. Your one looks properly old school!
All of us Land Rover owners know the feeling of disappearing down the wrong rabbit hole when trying to correct a fault! It took me a long time to learn the maxim of checking the simplest solutions first... My washers have only ever worked once, unexpectedly, when I was driving around on a lovely summers day and for no reason decided to spritz me over the top of the windscreen! Luckily my vehicle is MoT exempt!
Finally an episode where Joel does a job not only within my competence but also one I've done before! Replacing a washer pump unit! Simply pop down to H*alfods, buy a new one for £10 that looks about right, whack it in, splosh. Ah, not quite. My pump motor was very dead. In other news, my S3 is back from the resto, all resprayed and looking marvellous, and they even got a 3d-printed washer bottle cap - so if you want one, I might be able to ask where they got it from! Although I think a milk bottle top might work with a bit of fiddling...
Hi Barry, Great to hear from you. Would love to see some images of the Landy if you are willing to share them. Still hunting for that cap but may well take you up on that. Speak soon. Joël
Washer jets are a pain, if the motor makes noise always best to start with the simple checks. Though you learned how the motor works-every day is a school day. If you have a football inflation adapter for your compressor, disconnect the pipe from motor and put the adapter up to the pin hole they mate well in terms of size and blow compressed air the “wrong way” if gunk is stuck there you can blow it back to try and dislodge, the premixed washer fluid you can buy in gallon drums will overtime separate and the additive forms a sticky mess when sat in the reservoir. To test pipelines and jets, a simple way is with the pipe off blow through but have tissue over the jets the air will blow them off no need for fluid all over as you sort them

Thanks, and good to know. The quality of parts these days is rapidly decreasing. Such a shame.

Excellent. Thanks for sharing the story. At least I know I’m not alone.

Those washer jets are such a nuisance, nice fix! Mine usually work fine until a week before the MOT, the rear fog lamp likewise! They just know...
Landes just need some special attention every now and then (and always) 😅
