  • Harvesting some my garlic in April led me to understand more about a phenomenon that can occur when growing garlic.
    In today's video I share photos of the first harvest and what happened. Next, I share what it looks like when garlic brooms or separates while in the soil, how I harvest, and what my harvest results.

    I remember car lines!li My kids are all adults with kids of their own.. ah.. the memories. I'm going to buy blood meal?? At least that's what I think I need.. to feed my onions and garlic. So far so good with mine.. but I have no clue when and how to harvest either onion or garlic in AZ. I let several onions flower last year..and I left any onions until August and they were great. I'm glad to see this clip.. I am learning too.. I really think our weather makes it difficult.

    I’ve had great luck with elephant garlic. It is a bit milder, but has great flavor. I just buy it from the store, separate the cloves, and plant. Thanks for the tips. Take care always.

    Hi thank you for the information.
    I am growing a new variety of Elephant garlic know as HG1 garlic introduced by national agriculture research centre, it is currently in seed multiplication phase and is pretty very much expensive. i am multiplying this variety for 2 years. This time due to weather fluctuations witches broom phenomena started happening to my entire farm of 10 acres. Yesterday i notice 50% of my field is growing new leaves along with Scapes or after Scapes have emerged while other 40% is just growing new leaves within plant without Scapes.
    Last year i harvested big sized bulbs at fully maturity around 10th of may.
    This year this phenomenon is just starting as small new leaves are coming and temperatures for the next week forecasted to be hot that could slowed down semi mature cloves to sprout and save my crop. I have planned to pluck Scapes tomorrow and foliar boron to expedite the process of maturity.
    In normal hot climate the crop will take a month to get mature.
    Anything you can can help me to stop this phenomenon at early stage and push crop to maturity i would be obliged.
    Thank you

      I wish I had some tips, I think you have a good plan. We still ate the ones that broomed we just used it first. Maybe consider harvesting sooner than usual to keep the splitting from occurring. The more individual brooms means more splits. Experiment with harvesting a few to test for maturity.

      @@AllPurposeMom thank you for your reply.
      Please tell me from your experience, how many days before harvest your crop started showing new shoots within plants.
      My crop is showing these signs at scaping tage just 25,30 days before maturity

    Same thing happened to me last year, i think they were in too long or got too much rain. But it was my fkrst time growing it, i just planted my second lot recently here in Australia so I'm hoping i have better results.

      Some wonder if it could be the strain or garlic type as well...

  • @creinicke1000

    2nd question.. I've got half of my garlic in a raised concrete planter that gets automated watered.. most is very green.. I also have grow bags and wicking pots with garlic.. I'd like to check on the grow bag garlic and use the garlic.. if it's usable.. should I do that? And put something else in the bags now? Or should I let them go? Just curious what you think.. I haven't decided yet.. it's always an adventure. Summer can be so stressful with the heat. So I'm thinking of concentrating on fall...

    Hi. Great video? How do you store your garlic in the heat? Im growing garlic now that I started here in Southern Las Vegas. I have about a month and then I’m going to harvest it. I’m just concerned about where to store it.

    • @AllPurposeMom
      @AllPurposeMom  2 года назад +1

      I don't have a pantry but if I did I would just hang it in there after the cure. So think low humidity 70 degree range indoors for is desert folks. There are lots of simple ways to preserve it too from freezing to dehydrating. I have a crawl space under the oldest part of my house and I fantasize about storing stuff in there 💁🏻‍♀️

    So I just harvested some of my garlic that I planted back in October/November and the clothes are small. I don’t know if it was a watering issue or what. But I’m gonna keep trying to get larger clothes. Still going to use the small ones though so I still consider that a win because I got something

    • @AllPurposeMom
      @AllPurposeMom  2 года назад +1

      Of course still use it!! My first year was really small. Chose the biggest cloves when you plant and try to fertilize several times during thr long 9 months!
