The first few volumes of Fruits basket are pretty light, but as you meet the others zodiac signs along the way, and learn about their lives, the darker and heartbreaking it gets. It deals with some heavy topics : grief, abuse, domestic violence and much more. All the while with hope through it. The fantasy elements stay light, the focus of this series is healing your traumas
me personally i do think the fruits basket manga gets better! I liked the first volume just fine but the later volumes are what had that emotional impact for me
I also love reworking jigsaws, assuming I like the picture, but I don't have a lot of room to store them. Lately I've been buying them at the thrift store/charity shop and then re-donating them after finishing. Our library also has a honor-system puzzle checkout!
Fruits Basket is one of my favorite mangas! Like others commented, it starts light, but gradually gets darker, deeper, and super emotional. I feel like the manga delivers the emotional impact better than the anime, but both medias are good. I got into it pretty well from the first volume, but I would say (no spoilers) if you can make it to the events in CE volumes 5 & 6, after that is when it really starts to get more heavy, in my opinion.
Awesome blog! Love Bowling for Soup. Fruits Basket also has a great anime. Watch the remake instead of the 2000’s version because the manga was not finished when the anime was made.
Also Love Is Blind Sweden is one of my favorites. My partner doesn't care to watch tv very much so I haven't had him watch anything with subtitles but he binged the whole season with me. (: highly suggest!!
I've read some of Fruits Basket Manga and enjoyed it but watched the anime around pandemic time and after and it really made me self reflect while also being so kind to other people. Also love how you popped a little snippet of love is blind in your vlog. If you're on tiktok or twitch and haven't already seen his content and are in for a laugh. I highly suggest gilet slays.
I was late to the Fruits Basket party and saw the new anime first. The anime is pretty similar in pacing (if not faster) to the manga, so I knew where it was going to pick up. It's definitely a slow, cute slice of life with light fantasy at first, then it sucker punches you with the real story. I'd say the collector's editions hit that point at #3 and then it moves gradually as you continue to meet new characters and learn more.
While I havent read the fruits basket manga, I have watched the anime so I assume everything in the anime happens in the manga. The story does start off pretty mild and cute, but it later starts dealing with some heavy topics that makes you feel really bad for Tohru and the Somas: Familial Grief, abuse, abandonment, physical emotional and psychological abuse, and much more. If you dont like the manga then I would recommend that you watch it instead- it really is a fantastic story.
I’ve mentioned this before my partner used to work at a fantasy book shop in the 90’s and Robert Jordan came to do a signing. He told him the Wheel of Time was meant to be a trilogy but the publishers kept throwing money at him to keep writing Wheel of Time books so he kept going which might be why they feel slow etc.
I didn’t know what’s happened in fruits basket except for the main concept. I watched the anime and the last 3rd is absolutely crazy so if you feel the urge to keep going!!!
Yes, ugh that SA made me so mad and I couldn’t get over it and WoT is a favorite series but that still makes me mad to think about Hope you start feeling better soon
I was reading Dreaming Sun last year and it was definitely after volume 5 that I also started getting the ick. I think I continued for 2 more volumes before giving up. 😑
You reading Fruits Basket makes me want to reread it. It does have a slow start, but it does pick up in future volumes. I'd have look up which deluxe edition volume that would be. For my brother, it picked up for him in the anime when he met Hatori.
I can’t speak on the manga but I have watched the Fruits Basket anime and loved it! I would say the story definitely picks up and I got really attached to the characters by the end of the anime. I have also heard that the manga is actually better than the anime. p.s I love your videos sm 💜💜💜
I gave up WOT at book 7... It's meant to be when the big slump happens. Picks up again when Brandon Sanderson finished the series... But I couldn't bring myself to read like 4000 pages of a slump... especially with the outdated narratives...

Fruits Basket the remade anime was so well done and soooo emotional. I love that series. Manga does feel very slow in the beginning.
I always interpreted the curse in Fruit basket as a metaphor for generational trauma and breaking the curse as breaking this cycle of abuse and hurt
I've read all the Fruits Basket manga probably 5 times now and it definitely gets better later on. The anime is also very good too.
I love Fruits Basket!

At times I feel like I should continue on with wheel of time but other times I’m happy I let it go after book 4!

It's been a long time since I've read and watched Fruits Basket, but I think you would enjoy the anime more.
I hope you feel better soon!

Brie's jacket. So cute!!
I LOVE Less Than Jake, they're so awesome live too! Hope you had a good time

Great to see you back in a new vlog Becca x
I'm impressed with your DIYing, especially while I'll! Hoping for, but not counting on, more enjoyment in the next WOT

Fruits basket is def more slice of life and endearing with a smidge of comedy shenanigans than it is fantasy. The fantasy bit is minimal.
I had that dalmatian puzzle as a child😂
I was reading Dreaming Sun last year and it was definitely after volume 5 that I also started getting the ick. I think I continued for 2 more volumes before giving up. 😑
I had the same thoughts as you with volume 1 of Fruits Basket so picked up the second one and for me it didn’t get better so I’ve given up with it x
❤❤❤
Not everyone in the comments making me wanna pick up Fruit Basket 😂
Not me spending the last 4 hours watching Who TF did I marry on TT! I had reading plans tonight but they all went out the window, I was hooked! 😂
Please could you do a video showing your favourite mangas!

I would recommend just watching the (newer) anime adaptation of Fruits Basket! The English Dub is also great.
I also did not love Crown of Swords. Gave it 2 stars and hated the SA scene and the lack of care taken with it.
I gave up WOT at book 7... It's meant to be when the big slump happens. Picks up again when Brandon Sanderson finished the series... But I couldn't bring myself to read like 4000 pages of a slump... especially with the outdated narratives...
Who TF Did I Marry was wild
I dnfed wot at book 7. I realised I had zero interest in the plot, the characters or what's happening
I don’t like Fruits Basket. The anime is better than the manga but even that isn’t great.
I read bone spindle when it first came out and only gave it a 3.5/5 🫠
