      That's a thing, actually.
There's this story of one heresy era chaos marine. He's friends with this marine from one of the loyalist legions, and they fought during the heresy. The chaos guy won. While he was fighting the guy, he said something along the line of wanting to kill him again and again.
So now, because the idea amused the gods, he's constantly running into the loyalist marine's "descendants" who became astartes with his geneseed. The chaos astartes can recognize a family resemblance.
The thing is, the chaos marine has lost his will to keep the grudge going, but is compelled to do it for the amusement of chaos. It's a better fate than turning into a chaos spawn.

A veteran from the Heresy, possibly the crusade and more importantly someone who fought during the siege of Terra itself. If that dreadnought had been there, then the sheer prestige of him would have likely kept him confined on Baal for most of the time, not out fighting wars with small strike groups like here.

Nope but the NLs cut open the downed dreadnaught of the Blood Angels open when it downed by the war sage’s drednaught (both beat each other) then the NLs carved up the lump of meat that was the blood angel inside the dreadnaught.
