    Hi Friends, In today's video, we are giving the G10 EQ a spin and compare it to my original vintage API 560 EQ, which is one of my favourite EQs for tracking and mixing drums and acoustic guitars. You can check out my review, see how the G10 compares to the API and enter the giveaway here: www.producelikeapro.com/2017/04/18/bae-g10-eq-giveaway-2/

    I've always found the Waves 560 useful for quickly tailoring mono drum tracks and quite a number of instruments, such as keyboards (Rhodes particularly), Acoustic guitars, bass etc. I've entered the competition and have my fingers crossed for the real deal. I've always found the 560 helps me get what I want really quickly. Cheers!

    !!! The Bae stuff is great the eq is big but it does not touch the Api which to me it sounds more finished and like a record should sound but the Bae held its own against one of the best eq’s out there the Api 560 eq !!!!

    Hi Warren both gear is great but in my opinion 560 is better. Clarity is good. G10 for me is kind a overdriven. Though its really a matter of taste :) Have a nice day

    Nice! The 560 sounds like you would an API piece to sound: punchy, detailed in the midrange and with a bit more weight and a more euphonic high end than one would expect an SSL piece to sound. The G10 was (to me) more evocative of a Neve-ish piece of gear: the transients were rounded off, it had more bottom end, even smoother highs and I suspect that with the delicate test of EQing an acoustic guitar, you would get more satisfying results with it, getting more air out of it before it became harsh. Impressive! Thanks Warren! I'm off to sign up for the giveaway!

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  7 лет назад +1

      Hi noisesoundtonevibe, definitely! The API has an amazing midrange detail and the G10 has a wonderful low end! The transformer across the input stage makes a great difference I'm sure! Horses for courses, both sound great for different applications! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

  • @dylanmonahan5909
    @dylanmonahan5909 7 лет назад

    Had a chance to listen through my monitors today. The snare on the G10 benefited from the low mid thickness, but required more crack to balance the tone. The 560 sounded snappier and more open, but required more low mids. The kick sounded a bit punchier through the 560, but the extra balls of G10 would win me over; not too difficult to fix with more click. The girth of the G10 really comes into its own on bass; that one was a hands down BAE win. Both great pieces. Again, good luck everyone!

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  7 лет назад +1

      I agree! As many have said, the API has an amazing mid range! The BAE has a huge bottom end! Both do incredible things, so it's definitely horses for courses! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren

    Interesting comparison. When they were both on the kick and set "flat" I thought the G10 sounded a bit "tubby" or "flabby". After a bit of adjustment I thought it sounded better than the 560. Similar feeling with the snare, but not as pronounced to me (I like the "snap" of the API snare too).
    Night and day difference on the bass. The G10 is much rounder
    Thanks for sharing

      Hi Demag thanks for your great comment! In a perfect world I would have both to compare them on each source and choose the best tool for the job! My 560 is vintage so it's not a direct comparison to a new one! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many Warren

    I dont want to sound annoying , but starting phrases with number models is confusing ...
    in this case , just start with 'i had a console with... ' and after 'if people want to know the model nr. is .... '

    The curves per EQ point on G10 is definitely more suited to a modern sound. The snare sound was less awful through the API, IMHO. I think better bands to compare on that example would have been 400hz and 8khz,if only so it was easier to discern via the YT video. BAE wins out based on the examples but really it's a toss up between a more traditional sounding eq shape and the ultra modern energy of the BAE' curves. Both are excellent eq' that add mass and excitement to a source.

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  7 лет назад +2

      Hi G.Michael Hall thanks for your great comment! I'm personally not a fan of 400hz in drums, that's all a matter of taste! I tend to either push around 100hz with API and I also love 220hz from a 1073! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many Warren

    I hate using nebulous phrases to describe sound, but the kick on the G10 sounded like it had a slight "grey haze" on it. Not lack of clarity, but a noticeable amount of "air" on it. I didn't dislike it - it was just in comparison to the 560. And like you said Warren, horses for courses - different tool, different result.
    Side note - listened to this video on "regular" computer speakers after first listening on my monitors, just for kicks (pun intended)... even after RUclips compression, there's a significant difference between the two. If you're not listening on at least some decent NF monitors, you're doing yourself a disservice.

    Though I am a fan of 400hz in the snare especially when it's being hit unreasonably hard, but I had meant primarily for the translation of the audio test via YT, but I hear you...i guess I love that FUUUMPTAH !!¡! body of the snare blended with the 7.5-8.1khz that guys like Flood, Stent and Cenzo Townsend are known for. Ive just gotten bored with the amount of low frequency bandwidth given to the snare as late. But who knows, the bottom end on that G10 might change my feelings on that. Interesting you mentioned "bottom air".. That is where it's all at isn't it?! G10 is definitely an emotional(warm) EQ, wonderful sounding unit. Great vid mate

      Hi KhronX, it's more fundamental than that, does it make the thing you're recording sound better to you? That's the main criteria. I use Cubase, and when I've done a mix ready to do an audio mixdown export, with intentions of loading that mixdown back into a mastering project, I'm sure the mixdown should be a WAV instead of MP3 right?, but what is the best setting for mix, y'know like 44 htz and 16 bit is ideal for a CD, but whats the best setting for the mixdown intended for later mastering and adding compression etc later on???, I know this question is off the subject, but nobody seems to cover this issue on YT???, thanks, hope you can help me.

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  7 лет назад

      Hi Rolla Coasta Ride great question! If you're using a Mastering Engineer then you keep the final files at the highest sample and bit rate. I would always master at the best quality possible. Ultimately it should end up as Wav File at 16 bit 44.1k for CD. Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren

      Hi Mr Vin they both sound amazing! if you look at the 560 behind me you can see in background everything is set the same. I hope you're doing marvelously well! As I said my 560 is 'vintage' it's not a new one! I always thought it had a great bottom end and I mixed Aerosmith, Ace Frehley through it and love using the API 560 and will continue to use it! BAE are not giving me this at all! The only one I got is for a giveaway! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren

    • @jong8111
      @jong8111 7 лет назад +1

      Produce Like A Pro sorry but if you compare them both flat early in video to them flat at around 20 mins I'm sure you will see that the 31hz is still cut from the snare. You even touch it while saying it's flat. They do both sound great but the comparison is flawed from after the snare onward.

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  7 лет назад +2

      Hi Jon, the first part of the Bass test, you may not have noticed me saying it, but the EQ wasn't engaged. I did ask BAE why the level and bottom end would be so different, particularly in the Kick and they responded that the BAE has a transformer on the input stage. I've used it on an Aerosmith Album and two Ace Frehley albums to name a few and loved it! BAE are not giving me this for free so I will be returning it and shipping the other one off to the lucky winner! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren

    • @khronscave
      @khronscave 7 лет назад +1

      Audio gear gets sold on the basis of "vibe" and "tone" and whatever anyway, not science :P And this is quite different than, say, comparing instruments, where the physical feel and manipulation can have great importance on the result.
      But if / since there's no science involved, i kinda fail to see the point of such comparisons, if i'm honest.
      "Here's how different two different pieces of gear sound" - see my point?

    I don't have a Twitter, a Facebook, What'sApp, Instagram, Flickr, Tumblr. I don't even have a TV! I have youtube, Very good cause there people post all their stuff, entertainment and knowledge. I need a very small EQ between my computer and my headphones because they are bass boosted grrr. Manufacturers think it sells. I'm using Audio Hijack pro on the system audio with a 10-band EQ on it to low-cut muddy speech and online music. It gives me latency so I have to turn it off while recording. Instead use an EQ on Logic's master that I can deactivate before bouncing.
    My headphones have good quality but for real orchestras! Not for artificial sub-electronic synths. ES2 can blow my head off if I'm unprepared. I would need to dail in an EQ to zero my headphones and let the music be untouched. That's one piece but It's harder for you cause you have to have dedicated gear for more or less every channel.

      To many people the hardware sounds better; also possible to use in non-DAW systems or for tracking.

      Hi Andrea, great question! It's definitely great for tracking through and of course for inserting on a console! Also some people still love tactile controls and the individuality of each piece of equipment! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
