    Frieda McFadden is awful. I really don't understand how she gets away with ripping off other authors as much as she does.

    I recently watched a popular booktuber/booktoker make a thriller rec video and FM was the main rec. she even acknowledged Freida’s books were allegedly plagiarized but refused to admit bc she never read the other authors book!!

    Things like Freak have an average rating of 3.9 on GR and 3.77 on StoryGraph. I’m guessing the crazy low ratings on some of these books is because of the lower amount of ratings and users on this particular app at the moment? Either way, I love this idea and video!

    I didn’t love The Island by Natasha Preston either. But an amusement park thriller that I DID love was Wonderland by Jennifer Hillier! I wasn’t SUPER shocked by the plot twist but I just thought the whole thing was done well. Have you read it?

    I loved the perfect ruin!!!! I couldn't stand the girl with the dragon tattoo and Im over 50!! Side note: I do not belong to a boring granny book club - but I also can't find anyone my age that likes the same types of books that I like - extreme horror, horror and thriller. Part 2 would be great! Thank u

      well you found me. I'm an 80's girl who likes extreme horror. age has nothing to do with anything. I have no idea why that point was even made, and it's a bit hurtful if I'm honest.

    • @amandalavery6282
      @amandalavery6282 3 месяца назад

      @@aliarobinson6617 thank u for that! It's extremely comforting to know I am not alone at "my age". But it is rare to come across people outside of social media who have the same tastes in genres, without being judged. I don't think what was said was out of maliciousness or anything like that but I also couldn't help being a little insulted by the statement.

    I think my most unpopular opinions are that I hated Bunny and I'm Thinking Of Ending Things. I hated the way they both ended. Bunny would have been ok if not for the ending and 'I'm Thinking'....was just boring af. The deep discussions were not deep. I felt cheated and lied to literally because everyone loves those 2. I dont get it. And I love reading Freida McFadden lol.

    if you want a more fun/silly version of The Island, I would recommend Lord of the Fly Fest by Goldy Moldavsky*. If you can read Lord of the Flies before that, I'd say do that too.

    i HATED ‘Them’. i felt like the only thing it had to offer was the gore! i felt no connection to the characters, the story went nowhere, the “twist”? was obvious, and the dialogue was an abomination, NO ONE TALKS LIKE THAT. i gave it a 1/5. i’m sorry, i LOVE Mique, but that book was god awful in my opinion

    That's wild, I love the butterfly garden and I feel like it's pushed on Amazon all the time. It's got like this Silence of the Lambs controlling man, determined woman vibe that I really love. Like it's not a realistic premise but it's fiction and it's descriptive and graphic enough that I couldn't look away.

    just wanted to say I hated girl with the dragon tatoo as well, and I am a mom over 50. what's with the ageism. I see it everywhere. I read very much the same way you do. I would have thought you knew better than to make assumptions on what people read because of age. I may be what you think of obviously as "old" but my favorite writer as of now is chandler morrison. Age is a number. don't assume what people like or don't like just because of the number of birthdays they've had.

    • @bluecannibaleyes
      @bluecannibaleyes 3 месяца назад

      Same. I found it incredibly boring throughout, and it got too ridiculous for my personal tastes near the end. I feel like I was sold a murder mystery and instead got a Bildungsroman/survival story. I’m not usually a huge fan of mysteries, so I didn’t expect to love it going in. But I don’t tend to like coming of age stories and I have yet to read a survival-in-the-wilderness story that I didn’t despise. And it was something that GR recommended to me based on other books I liked. I felt like it was falsely advertised to me, and it definitely was not my kind of book.

    I finished The Girl in 6E literally yesterday, I rated it 3 stars and I can explain why I think it was such a mid book. First: I loved the sex work element, and the mixed media format I actually think reading the messages was the best part about the book. Also learning about the crime that was committed was shocking to me and made me feel icky (trying to be as spolier free as possible here). From there, I just really disliked the way everything became so easy for her, and just fell into place. She spent the whole book trying to convince us that she's a danger to society, then she is more of less perfectly fine when she ventures 13 hours cross country, and back? Then the really average and eye-roll romance between her and someone who just happens to be oh so hunky and gorgeous? Come on... I would have loved this loads more if things actually went a bit wrong for her, like prove that she's this cold blooded psycho that deserves to be locked inside at night, because I'm not believing it, it kinda made her seem like a bit of a pick-me like ohhhh I'm so dangerous stay away from me, then everything just so easily and conveniently fell into place for her, ugh

    I hated the Butterfly Garden because I truly disliked the personality of the main character, she was way too nonchalant with what was happening. The writing style honestly felt like a Wattpad original, and in general, it felt like the author was romantazing this whole scenario...like taking a certain man's feelings into consideration (I won't say whose, not to spoil). But like, girl. You are being captured and SA'd on the daily, let's not focus our romantic plot here...

  • @cady3401

    I gave the girl with the dragon tattoo (and the subsequent 2 books) 5 stars, but to your point I was a teenager and they were some of the first adult thrillers I ever read. The first third of the book is truly painfully slow and dull and now, with my wider experience in the genre, I doubt it would earn that rating, but I’m afraid to reread it and ruin my nostalgic love for the books that helped me fall in love with thrillers! 🥲 they served their purpose and will live on my shelf forever but I probably won’t reread the first one. There are a number of new ones in the series written by a new author (larsson passed away before the first book was published, likely why the first book feels under-edited) that I do plan to pick up :) that said, the movies are excellent! Both the Swedish originals and the American remake.
