Considering the I 6 was kind of a Chevy thing, when Ford came out with theirs in the fifties, they were bullet proof. Coupled with a four speed manual in a pickup they went forever.
Dad had one in an 84 f150. Blew two piston skirts off. Different cylinders, around two years apart. Heavy load under compression braking at around 2200rpm both times. Was loaded with fire wood, still in the forest on a dirt road. It was reliable aside from that but didn't have enough power to drive the truck anywhere without having to downshift everytime you go up a hill, even unloaded.
I own a 1990 ford f150 with the 300 in it, it only has 112xxx miles and for 28 years, that engine is still a baby. And the youtuber also forgot the 7.3 diesel, my grandpa had one and put over 500xxx miles on it
You left out the 4.6 Terminator from the 03/04 Cobra. That engine was ahead of its time for modular engines. People thought Ford was crazy for using a steel block instead of an aluminum block. Turns out the terminator engine was bulletproof at high boost with basic modifications added high horsepower.
What about the old 289? Those little suckers were in everything from Falcons to Galaxies and they held up well. In fact, most all Ford small block engines worked well and were reliable. The most refined was the late 80's to early 1990 5.0L (225 hp before the cam change) Also, the 352 and 390. So many cars and trucks had them and they just ran forever.
archangele1 yo Ark you're 100% correct forgot the best reliable racing motors the hardest crank three 289 I'll give you a quick little story my mother had mail runs and he had tractor trailers full mail we actually got one of them started during the winter my pulling it with my mother's 289 Mustang phenomenal no words for that you have a great night
While not a muscle car engine by any means, the 4.6L V-8 was an amazing engine in every respect. Fuel economy, power, reliability, etc. Surprise it wasn't on the video.
Nothing wrong with the 4.6L 3v, it made Ward’s 10 best engines in production a few times. Smooth motor, gets shite on these days but it was a reliable engine and still had good power, even sounded better than the Coyote engine!
I get that we're all conditioned to believe that everything is built to fail, and that's because machines do, eventually, fail, but the longevity of an engine like a 7.3 has NOTHING to do with why they stopped making them. Pretty much any truck diesel, and a bunch of gas engines even these days make more torque than those did, all while meeting ever stricter emissions and economy standards, so the largest reason for the demise of the 7.3 was simply government regulations.
Clyde Barrow LOVED that Flat Head V-8!! Mr. Henry Ford Detroit, Mich. Dear Sir: While I still have got breath in my lungs I will tell you what a dandy car you make. I have drove Fords exclusively when I could get away with one. For sustained speed and freedom from trouble the Ford has got every other car skinned, and even if my business hasen’t been strickly legal it don’t hurt anything to tell you what a fine car you got in the V8. Yours truly Clyde Champion Barrow"
coyotes haven't proved themselves yet, the 5.4 triton, even the 4v variant was unreliable and never made great power for its weight, the 4v 4.6 should have been on this list, the 351C is part of the boss 302, and the 351w is part of the 5.0 efi
That 351 Boss was quick. low 12's in the quarter when they are running good. I would put the 4.2 L Fairlane engine on the list because it brought Ferrari to their knees.
LOOK ! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH... Berkley pumps have been on the jet boat scene from the very beginning. The main characteristics of water jet driven boats is a "thirst" for fuel that is a result of near constant WOT operation. Berkley used only 2 big block engines for decades... the 455 olds and 460 ford. In the late 60s Lincoln used a 10.5 to 1 compression 460 that was terribly underrated at 365 brake horse power (4600 rpm)!!! Not only did it have the durability for sustained high rpm usage but would eat (alive) performance LTDs, Cougars, New Yorkers, Imperials, and the 396SS Impala ! It may be the most underappreciated engine of all time.
OH THANK YOU! FINALLY GOT MY BOSS 351 IT'S DUE RESPECT. NOW I KNOW THE 351 CLEVELAND HAS "AUSSIE" GENES BUT LETS INCLUDE THE 4V CLEVELAND ENGINES. GO, FOMOCO!!
This video should be titled: "A few great Ford engines from the 30's to the 80's, and one truck diesel." And then shutoff the comments section. FYI RUclipsrs, the Boss 351 is a 351 Cleveland.
all I can say is - if Ford makes it - I will buy it! BEST AUTO COMPANY ever IMO. we currently have six Fords - no problems from ANY OF THEM (and the oldest is a 1995 Bronco)
The original Flathead V8, The 289 and the 427 Wedge are the only 3 Ford engines that anyone needs to know. The later 429 , Boss 302/351 were more or less late commers and the great muscle car wars were pretty much winding down when those engines arrived. But a hipo 289 can rev from here into next week and a worked 427 Wedge took no prisoners. Even the vaunted Hemi had to have a bit of luck to beat the 427.
@Mark Godfrey mark you got JT here my father bought my mother a new 65 Mustang he had mail runs one of them was a tractor trailer loaded with mail stuck in the loading dock he hooked up a chain from the tractor to the Mustang pulled it out of the loading dock and fast enough for the driver to pop the clutch and got him running I was like 6 years old at the time and I didn't realize with this amazing car did you have a great night buddy take care man
Just one thing Mr Dude, The Ardun head was just an overhead valved head conversion for the popular flat head Ford. It didn't have hemispherical chambers. The omission of the 427 SOHC was definitely an error as is the omission of the Australian 4.0 litre Turbocharged Barra DOHC engine. The engine in unbreakable and goes like absolute stink!
I missed your comment before I made my own. The sound was definitely not the sound of any Ford flathead I ever heard. That is what made me look closer. I also agree that the "Cammer" motor should have been included. I believe the SOHC engine was a $3,000 option back in the day, which means the engine sometimes cost more than the (few) cars it came in.
Heres an Aussie view, Ford produced some great motors, the 351 cleveland is legendary here, our 1969 351 GT phase 111 was the fastest 4 door car in the world, we also had the beaut 5 ltr supercharged miami V8, the last of the windsor 302 here was stripped, bored, balance, blueprinted with unique throttle body for the ripper handbuilt ford tickford 342, the greatest for longevity with a 40 yr plus reinvented motor is our straight 6 4lt barra, which in later years grew a turbo and twin cams, huge horespower, near unbreakable and one of the best inline 6s ever made...
No Coyote? Terminator Cobra motor? Trinity 5.8? GT 5.4 Supercharged motor? 5.4 4V Cobra R motor? 5.2 voodoo? Cobra jet?? Yet the power stroke is on the list...
many of those engines aren't made or engineered by ford, some of the mustang engines were designed and engineered in italy or canada. Boss engine is mostly aftermarket parts, the 5.0L is a poor casting For example 5.4L and 5.8L was designed and engineer by Martinrea Honsel in Germany, Dodge could literally order that casting and put it in a charger Aluminator wasnt made by ford, they later copied the casting and now do make that engine but they didn't engineer it Cobras made by italians
A "Best" engine would have to be the engine that works hard for many years. The heads on this page are into high HP engines that die young. Well boys HP is not the answer. Longevity is the real winner. The straight sixes that ford used to build were its best motors.
So true, don't want any engine anymore that requires lots of repairs even if it is faster than a bullet when it is running. I'd rather be slower and know I'm always going to get home with my vehicle than to outrun everything on the highway.
I have owned many Ford's with different engines. I would have to add the 4.9 pickup engine as a great Ford engine. I had 3 with no problems and great gas mileage.
Ed Terry, West Coast Ford Drag Team driver 1969-1971 had a shop in Hayward California, and inside the shop along the east wall, was a two tier engine rack that held at least a dozen complete race engines, 427 side oilers, Cammers, 428 Cobra Jets, Boss 351's and Boss 429's. Ed explained that the factory tuned 428 CJ Super Stock engines that Ford used in NHRA Super Stock class in 1968, made over 450 hp. ..evident by the Cobra Jets running 1/4 mile ET's in the mid 11 second times.
I’m surprised the 4v 4.6 wasn’t on this list. It was such a great engine that koenigsegg used it In one of their cars, which was the fastest production car in the entire world at the time.
I had a '77 Granada with a 250 six cylinder in it. I don't know what the horsepower was, but I do know it would exceed 100 mph. Had good acceleration, got good gas mileage, etc. I saw a magazine (I think it was Hot Rod) article that someone did some work on one of those engines to include a custom-ground cam and dual Weber carbs. Said it would humiliate 289 Mustangs.
In my younger days i had a couple of Ford Falcons, both had the 6 cyl. engines, one i rebuilt, they ran well, when i got my license i had a 64 Ford Galaxy 500, it had a 352 cu.in. in it it ran great! My buddy and me did some tweeking, we installed headers, & we installed an Elderbrock intake, we also put in a Craine miled street cam! she was fast and in 73 gas was 36 cents for high test, loved that car, i sold it when i went in the Army and man do i regret it!
@@lindamcentaffer5969 I bought a 1964 Galaxy 500 XL convertible in 1969 that had a 361 Police Interceptor in it. When I started having valve problems with it , I switched it out for a 352 from a new car my friend rolled and left the 361 sitting in his pasture. I regret doing that now.
You're missing very few of great Ford engines...YB cosworth,4.6 modular from Terminator,5.0 roadrunner,5.4 4v Cobra r engine,5.0 Cammer R50...proven powerplants,even in racing enviroment...
The Video is a little bit loose in the way it described the success of the 428 Cobra Jet. It wasn't exactly the Stock Car Champion as it was never the engine that Ford homoligated or used in Nascar racing, as is claimed in the video. But it did win the 1968 Winter Nationals drag meet at Pomona, which I think the video was trying to infer, in the "Stock Car Division", as well as every other division that the 428CJ was entered in. The Ford Drag Team was the force to be reckoned with back then. They cleaned up the Drag racing world until the Ford Mo. Co. officially pulled out of all motor racing for a long period of time.
The 1968 Winter Nationals Super Stock Eliminator final was a match-up between Dave Wren driving his old school 1963 Plymouth Savoy vs. Al Joneic in the new 1968 Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet. At the start, Wren's Plymouth triggered the red light, giving the race and Title to Joneic, who clocked an ET of 11.56 @ 120.64 mph. This was the first National win for the Ford Drag Teams new Cobra Jet Mustang.
How does the boss 302 differ from the 79-95 302's(besides carb/efi, heads that all got changed up between those years)? Is it at least same block or way different?
Used a 63 ford 2000 4 cylinder yesterday for 3 hours straight without turning it off one time. Motor has never had the valve cover off. Definitely mentioned some fine engines but missed a few. My opinion 2.3 ranger motor then 300 6.
Coyotes Motors is one of the best Motors ever built. Also the 302 h.O and 351w. Ford's best 3 Motors. Most popular Ford Motors at any drag strip. Everything else is for show
mewrongway they have always used Chevy power because Chevy has displacement but now the Fords engines are so good and making more power than Chevy. There is no reason to swap for a Chevy engine anymore. Chevy is still making more torque but less horsepower.
What do you think the Boss 351 engine is. The Boss 351 is 100% Cleveland, from the air cleaner to the flywheel and everything in between. It does not share the Windsor short engine, as the Boss 302 did.
Thumbs down. The 6.7 is garbage. You should have mentioned the 7.3 which had a well proven track record of reliability of maintained trucks getting over a million miles before rebuild. Also the 4.0 OHV V6 was a very good engine as was the 300 I6.
We have a 2015 Mustang GT making 550 HP we travel all over the US for work it has 150,000 miles and we abuse the hell of that car drag racing, roll racing, drifting it lol and the engine has never even gave one little problem only issues we have had with the car is 02 sensor went bad once hit a rock easy fix, drive shaft broke once drifting lol and clutch gave out once dig racing other then that car is still running perfect we just drove 3,000 miles round trip for Thanksgiving and engine and transmission are still very happy in my opinion the new coyote 5.0 engines gen 2015-2017 are very good engines currently got enough money to throw some boost on it and were gonna open it up and see if it is healthy enough for boost i will leave an update once i know but im sure it is
So much fail. The 6.7 is not the best diesel Ford had, that'd be the 7.3 and how the hell can you leave out the 4.6 2v and the 4.9 inline 6 for their bulletproof reliability and durability.
The Nascar block 427 engines are the best FORD engine ! They came in to 4 upgrades , LOW RISER, MID RISER, HI RISER, and the SINGLE OVERHEAD can 427 ! The engine comes stock. with 2 4barrel Holley carburators and a 4 bolt main CROSSBOLT! You can identify the block by seeing 4 bolthead on the lower portion of the block just above the oilpan ! It be can handle a lot of torque and RPM without spinning a bearing ! BOSS 302 engine is the next one! It be is your basic small block WINDSOR with a CLEVELAND head ! Ford was experimenting with the Cleveland head mounted on top of a 4bolt main small Windsor 302 block ! It is found on the 1969 and 1970 BOSS302 ! You just have to disable the RPM limiter on the car to get more power !
The difference between a 351 Windsor and a 351 Cleveland ? The 351 Windsor is the same block as the the 302, except it is 1 inch taller to get more cubic inches instead of boring and stroking it ! They use the same head but they have to redesign the intake manifold and widen it to match the angle of the block ! The 351 Cleveland is a new FORD design engine and it comes into 2 szes! The 351 and the 400 ! It also comes with 2 size heads, the 2V and the bigger valves 4V heads ! You can also modify any small block Windsor motor to accept a Cleveland head , just like the BOSS 302 !
Well, that is the short list of a long list of great Ford engines. The long list would have to include 312, 406, 300-6, 289, 390, 427 SOHC, and the 4.6L. The Inline 300 and the 352 block were indestructible.
The Boss 351 was indeed dramatically underrated by Ford. Just like the Boss 429, Boss 302, 428 Cobra Jet , 429 Cobra Jet, 4.6 3V and a few others Ford has been less then completely honest about.
Gorilla Cookies You are NOT smart enough to understand the reasoning for the under rated engines !!! It was to get by the insurance companies so they would insure them DUMB ASS !!!!
The flathead engine shown here has "Ardun" heads, which were designed and sold by Zora Arkus Duntov of Corvette fame. Those heads convert Ford flathead engines to overhead valve designs. I have read that they had Hemi" style combustion chambers too, but I cannot vouch for that.
I'm so glad there was such thing as a ford ,would be a shame for chevy to have to just beat themselves repeatedly ,so ya thankful for the fix or repair daily co.
Best? What is best, power or mileage? for Ford, their old 260 CI engine was really good. For GM, the 265 CI engine was great. Why did they both not stick with those sizes and just build on clean burning development and mileage with 10 speed transmissions, catillac convertors and aero designs?
back in the day I had a mustang 11, crane cam solid lifters, offy four barrel intake and a holley 390 four barrel, adjustable cam sproket hooker headers, 7 qt oil pan in a 2300 lima engine that could out run a stock 302
300 inline 6 has to be one of, if not the most reliable gas engine ever made
Considering the I 6 was kind of a Chevy thing, when Ford came out with theirs in the fifties, they were bullet proof. Coupled with a four speed manual in a pickup they went forever.
My 81 F150 with the 300 six, had over 300,000 miles on it when I sold it, and it was still going strong!
+John Collins
Man, I wish I had an '80s F-150 set up like that!
I knew a guy with a na 2jz in his lexus is 300 I belive with 600k miles
Forgot the best. 300 straight 6. Bullet proof and good mileage!
If you hadn't wrote this, I would have, bullet proof for sure
I own a 1990 ford f150 with the 300 in it, it only has 112xxx miles and for 28 years, that engine is still a baby. And the youtuber also forgot the 7.3 diesel, my grandpa had one and put over 500xxx miles on it
Good gas mileage is incorrect, my inline six got the same gas mileage as my dodge ram 5.9 Mangum v8
Shawn dehart a1990 f150 with only 112,000 miles!? That's basically a new car
JonnyRicter picked up an 85 f250 with a 4spd and a 300 with 93k miles for $500 last month
My stepside has 428cj, my old man has a Bronco with a 429, and we're currently building a 351 boss for his 67 Mustang. We love our Fords
kmart nw rare birds man, nice collection 👍😎
You left out the 4.6 Terminator from the 03/04 Cobra. That engine was ahead of its time for modular engines. People thought Ford was crazy for using a steel block instead of an aluminum block. Turns out the terminator engine was bulletproof at high boost with basic modifications added high horsepower.
jrh0369 ford used a billet steel block which is basically a built block. People thought it was just any old steel block, not a billet one.
@Oakie 305 hp more like 390-430 hp at least the terminator supercharged cobras were..I believe the hp for the NA 4v 4.6 was like 305 to 320
What about the old 289? Those little suckers were in everything from Falcons to Galaxies and

completely agree,plus the 302
archangele1 I agree, and the 289 don't forget was also in the legendary Cobras that smoked EVERYONE back then!!
the 289 was an awesome engine.
302=289.........just a longer stroke.
archangele1 yo Ark you're 100% correct forgot the best reliable racing motors the hardest crank three 289 I'll give you a quick little story my mother had mail runs and he had tractor trailers full mail we actually got one of them started during the winter my pulling it with my mother's 289 Mustang phenomenal no words for that you have a great night
While not a muscle car engine by any means, the 4.6L V-8 was an amazing engine in every respect. Fuel economy, power, reliability, etc. Surprise it wasn't on the video.
427 SOHC CAMMER WAS THE BEST ENGINE FORD MADE IN THE 60S, I THINK IT SHOULD BE ON THE LIST
Yea but there was a major problem with the cammer. With it's 6- foot timing chain, it could not maintain a consistent valve timing.
most powerful, not most reliable
Nothing wrong with the 4.6L 3v, it made Ward’s 10 best engines in production a few times. Smooth motor, gets shite on these days but it was a reliable engine and still had good power, even sounded better than the Coyote engine!
The 2v was way more reliable
I thought the 7.3 Powerstroke was the Diesel engine of choice.
for sure but the 7.3 is made by international.....its a million miles engine
western star truck that’s why they stopped making it😭
I get that we're all conditioned to believe that everything is built to fail, and that's because machines do, eventually, fail, but the longevity of an engine like a 7.3 has NOTHING to do with why they stopped making them. Yep, flatheads and the B.A.R. were his favs.
You missed a lot of engines the Coyotes Voodoo 4v 5.4s 4v 4.6 351 C and W

The gt40 p heads everyone wants were k code 289 hipo .
You left a lot out no 427 cammer and I hate to break it to you that flat head was no longer a flat head with that ardun hemi head conversion on it
I was waiting for the cammer to !
Scott Irwin left out the best one but then again this channel lacks a lot
Just one thing Mr Dude, The Ardun head was just an overhead valved head conversion for the popular flat head Ford. It didn't have hemispherical chambers. I'm not even a Ford guy and I knew this too. WTH? The 427 is one of Fords most Iconic motors they made. On the track it held up to be a legend.

Yet the power stroke is on the list...
Hold up, the 6.7 deserves to be in the list. I own a 7.3 and I think it should be on there but it wasn’t built by ford, it was made by international
Ngl, I was expecting the terminator engine to be on this list
Cobra jet is in here
many of those engines aren't made or engineered by ford, some of the mustang engines were designed and engineered in italy or canada.

Agreed. That's why the 2008+ 5.4L should be here. They are great on reliability. (And decent on power)
7.3 liter power stroke turbo Diesel can last a million miles if taken care of. Wouldn’t trade it for anything
That flat head with the hemi ohv conversion is just sexy.
I have owned many Ford's with different engines. I would have to add the 4.9 pickup engine as a great Ford engine. I had 3 with no problems and great gas mileage.
The 300 six Will long out live and outperform every single motor they have built because it is indestructible that’s why ford stopped up to making it
you speak the truth. if it doesnt break and they dont sell the parts to fix it they dont make the money.
Outlive maybe, outperform, not so much. The 300 I6 is/was a great truck and industrial engine, but a performance machine it is not
That has nothing to do with it. It was an old design and emissions, weight, advances in engine designed, etc all contributed to it's end.
Barra turbo, 1200hp no sweat..
I Never knew an inline 6 could be bigger than a 289 v8

300 l6. Best from any manufacturer.
@Joe Madej That's why the Chev 4.3L is still a good choice, I own a 4.6L Ford but I won't be doing much to it other than oil changes.
you should have shown the flattie without the Arden heads - so people could see what it really looked like.....
0:39 HOLY SHIT! I just had an EARGASM!
Said it would humiliate 289 Mustangs.
no 289, no 351 cleveland, no 427, no 5.4 mod. crazy
The first engine was a 427, the boss 351 was a Cleveland, I agree with the rest of the unmentioned.
Can you tell the visual difference between a 352 & 390? Every 64 Galaxy 500 I ever saw had a 390.
You missed Ford's best of the era: The 427 SOHC Hemi....a true beast!
300 I-6, 352 best truck engine.
Sorry the ford 300 i6 has that honor
Had a k code 289 fast back, cast iron ford 4speed.That speaks for its self.
This video is nonsense ? How can you possible leave off this list the 2003/2004 4.6 litre 32 valve supercharged V8 from the SVT Cobra ???
I thought the 289 small block would be here.
David Childers ya me too I have a good 66 289
So did I, rather low on HP but ran until the rest of the car was shot.
I mean, the 289 is essentially just a short stroke 302, or rather, the 302 is a stroked 289, to be accurate.
The 300 straight 6 was by far the best engine Ford ever made followed by the 7.3 diesel
i always liked the 351 C4V like in the Pantera's what a fast engine ,
American only, with no mention of the Barra turbo from Down Under. Beautiful, bullet-proof six that can be beefed up to incredible horsepower.
I asked my dad and uncle the same question, and they both told me it was the 390. They said it was so reliable!
Any engine well maintained and not abused is a good engine.
No coyote or voodoo?Am I missing something? No 4.6 from the Terminator?
Back when anything from 290 hp to 400+ hp truly meant something.
where is the 289
Coyote, 302 h.o, 351w best 3 Ford Motors ever build. The most popular Ford Motors at any drag strip at the moment.
Can't forget the good ol' 460 Ford as well.
The FE SIDEOILED crossbolt engine won every race that ever was, including lemans
Used a 63 ford 2000 4 cylinder yesterday for 3 hours straight without turning it off one time. Motor has never had the valve cover off. Definitely mentioned some fine engines but missed a few. My opinion 2.3 ranger motor then 300 6.
That dudes flathead is so fuckin awesome!!!!!
Where's the Australian 4L inline 6 (Barra) ?
I'm surprised the 351 windsor wasn't mentioned
Yes I agree about the flathead.
Wish they put the 5.4 Triton in here. (2008-2010 Models Were Great)
Really like the video but I think the 428 Super Cobra J's 2bs engine
Coyote engine? Kinda saved the mustangs performance from being underpowered from competition
ford didn't make or engineer most of those engines, sometimes they even copied castings from engines they bought
Coyotes Motors is one of the best Motors ever built. Also the 302 h.O and 351w. Ford's best 3 Motors. Most popular Ford Motors at any drag strip. Everything else is for show
what about the terminator cobra 4.6? the American Supra if you will with its amazing bottom end and forged internald.
Smbuckeye and the ls engines is what saved gm. with out the ls chevy wouldve folded
mewrongway they have always used Chevy power because Chevy has displacement but now the Fords engines are so good and making more power than Chevy. There is no reason to swap for a Chevy engine anymore. Chevy is still making more torque but less horsepower.
The 427 Cammer should have been mentioned.
Man,some of these engines scared me!
351c should have been on there
It is as the Boss 351 engine. It's the most powerful version of the 351 Cleveland.
What do you think the Boss 351 engine is. The Boss 351 is 100% Cleveland, from the air cleaner to the flywheel and everything in between. It does not share the Windsor short engine, as the Boss 302 did.
The 300 6 in line with the 289 v 8 for long term daily driver
Thumbs down. The 6.7 is garbage. You should have mentioned the 7.3 which had a well proven track record of reliability of maintained trucks getting over a million miles before rebuild.
Also the 4.0 OHV V6 was a very good engine as was the 300 I6.
Patrick Baptist international harvester made the 7.3 powerbroker dumb fuck, if you were an actual owner you’d know
@Mark Godfrey Obviously kiddo.
The HP 289 definitely should have been in here.
Ford did not build the 7.3, it was built by International.
4.6 2v was the work horse of the ford line up. More reliable than than the 5.4. Great engine! That engine was in everything!!!
The 7.3 was an international.
Yeah i just picked an '01 F150 with the 4.6L 2v, and I'm happy to hear that :)
7.3 is actually an international engine built for ford.
Where’s the modular family? Such as the 4.6 3v
the 3v mod motors were junk. 2v mod motors I agree tho.
351 Cleveland one of the best ford engine's don't for get!
Until you actually make any power, then the block crumbles.
==i wonder if those custom heads on that flat head where the first custom heads ever made
You forgot the 5.4 3 valve engine. Best engine EVER!
Hahaha I'm joking 😂😂😂
You full of shit,haha!!!!
What about the 300 I6, and the Windsor engines?
Forgot the Vulcan, really reliable engine when properly maintained.
Well, that is the short list of a long list of great Ford engines. The long list would have to include 312, 406, 300-6, 289, 390, 427 SOHC, and the 4.6L. The Inline 300 and the 352 block were indestructible.
Make a video series about "Best Engines ever built by *brand name*"
Do those rollers give enough resistance to accurately simulate the car dragging it's own weight along a flat road?
Yes
The Boss 351 was indeed dramatically underrated by Ford. Just like the Boss 429, Boss 302, 428 Cobra Jet , 429 Cobra Jet, 4.6 3V and a few others Ford has been less then completely honest about.
Gorilla Cookies You are NOT smart enough to understand the reasoning for the under rated engines !!! It was to get by the insurance companies so they would insure them DUMB ASS !!!!
Back then 400+ hp meant something. Now everything has 400+
The flathead engine shown here has "Ardun" heads, which were designed and sold by Zora Arkus Duntov of Corvette fame. Those heads convert Ford flathead engines to overhead valve designs. I have read that they had Hemi" style combustion chambers too, but I cannot vouch for that.
wheres the barra? how about the modular engines? the cleveland? the windsor?
I'm so glad there was such thing as a ford ,would be a shame for chevy to have to just beat themselves repeatedly ,so ya thankful for the fix or repair daily co.
The 427 was not the largest cid V8 Ford produced in the mid 60's the 462 cid MEL was.
Best? What is best, power or mileage? for Ford, their old 260 CI engine was really good. For GM, the 265 CI engine was great. Why did they both not stick with those sizes and just build on clean burning development and mileage with 10 speed transmissions, catillac convertors and aero designs?
You forgot to include the 7.3 powerstroke.
How in the world do you not put the Cleveland on this list???????????????????
1.6L Kent engine was as reliable as the 300 six, which was one of the best.
was the 351 audio recorded on a toaster?
The ARDUN overhead valve conversion heads on the flathead engine were designed by the father of Corvette, Zora Arkus Duntov. Ergo AR DUN.
What I'm missing is the indestructable v6 12v ranging from 2.0 to 4.0
Mate, you forgot the Barra!
390 police interceptor!
The Australian made Ford Barra engine should have been included in this .
back in the day I had a mustang 11, crane cam solid lifters, offy four barrel intake and a holley 390 four barrel, adjustable cam sproket hooker headers, 7 qt oil pan in a 2300 lima engine that could out run a stock 302
Actually this famous, super durable engine ( won 24 hour Le Mans 3 yrs in a row running 7,000 rpms 2/3 the time) is only 425 CID.
