Bananas tend to ripen/rot fast when put in an enclosed area like the refrigerator. You can keep them fresh by hanging them or if you really want to put them in there, peel & seal them in plastic first.
I heard that hanging them and covering the branch end with foil makes it last 👍

Little “trick” for overripe bananas like you had, these are perfect for vegan banana bread or banana fried beignets !
Btw, at my home we wrap bananas tightly with a plastic bag, so there's no air (or as little as possible) touching them, and put them in the fridge. They still become dark outside, but stay yellow and hard inside!
